Hockey By:Josh Did you know hockey is one of the hardest sports to learn? One reason it is hard is because of all the rules. Also, you have to play against super stars. Plus, you have to play your position. There are many strategies to score. The last reason hockey is hard is because it is very physical, because it is physical you you need to wear lots of equipment to protect you from getting injured. Rules In hockey there are a lot of rules some of the most common ones are high sticking,tripping, hooking. High Sticking is when a player hits someone in the face with their stick. If they are not bleeding it is a two minute penalty, if they are bleeding it is a five minute penalty. Tripping is when you purposely put your stick by there feet and they trip on it, that is a two minute penalty. But is the person you trip is on a breakaway, they get a penalty shot. Hooking is when you hook the blade of your stick around someone's waist that is a two minute penalty. But is the person you hook is on a breakaway they get a penalty shot. …show more content…

Although body checking is believed to be a useful tool in the winning of hockey games, it can be the cause that leads to injury among players. Because of the rougher play, lasting brain injuries are becoming a worry and too many players are exposed to the lasting effects of the head injury. According to Michael Cusimano July 22, 2003 the article entitled “Body Checking and Concussions” states, “With the rising incidence of traumatic brain injury in hockey, too many players are exposed to the lasting effects of such injuries, some of which are not fully realized until the brain completes its maturation.” For this reason, new equipment and regulations need to be devised for use in the near future.
