My personality result is virtuoso (ISTP). Virtuoso loves to explore and examine their environment; people with this personality are natural makers and move from project to project. People that have this personality love to lend a helping hand and share their experience if it benefits other around them. Virtuoso personality is very uncommon; they are only about five percent of the population. As a female with this personality, it is very rare because they are mostly classified as tomboys by the societal standard. Individuals with this personality are difficult to predict, they have a strong sense of fairness and they believe in doing unto others as to you want others to do to you. Virtuoso struggle with boundaries and guideline, they prefer to move around and step outside the box.

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) has recognized my profile as Introvert, Intuitive, Thinking and Judgment (INTJ). As an introvert, I can get nervous among other people. It does not pose a problem for an individual. On the other hand, in order to be an effective leader, it is important for me to keep a profound communicational relationship with my subordinates. Without proper communication skills, it is not possible to establish a functional relationship with my subordinates. This may jeopardize the success of any activity that we are involved in. The introvert part is perhaps the major barrier which may keep me away from being an effective leader.
The key to any personality is to understand where your weaknesses are and to be willing to work around them. I have learned to understand that I am an introvert, but know that I cannot allow that part to dominate at work without risking the performance of my job. I have also ensured that those close to me, at home and at work, know that I am an introvert, so that when they see me withdrawing they understand why and no one takes it personal. I find that I try to communicate well with others and express my interest through body language such as smiling, eye contact, nodding of my head, etc. I do to show that I can be personable and hope to build good relationships on that. Based on my scores, I also show higher scores for Conventional, Dependant, and/or Avoidance. This is true in the sense that sometimes, if I find myself too comfortable in a situation; I tend to become withdrawn in order to protect my well being. I don’t want people to take advantage of me, so I become distant after a certain point. This does cause conflict for me both at work and in my personal affairs.

I learned that having these personality traits affects my behavior at work and in my relationships. I find that I have strengths and weaknesses with these personality traits. After understanding the theory behind both the trait and skill approach, I was eager to evaluate and reflect on my own leadership traits. It was interesting to see how the trait approach allowed me to better understand whether or not I have certain traits considered to be important for leadership, while skills approach allowed me to evaluate my strengths and weaknesses in the technical, human and conceptual skills.
