The Army as a profession of arms is a unique field of work. The profession requires complex knowledge and skills. We as soldiers in such profession must be capable of completing our mission both in garrison and in combat. Through extensive training and experiences, we develop into experts in the profession. Therefore, society has entrusted us with their security, we must continue to prove that we are experts in our line of work. “Effectiveness, rather than pure efficiency, is the key to the work of professionals—the sick want a cure, the sinner wants absolution, the accused want exoneration, and the defenseless seek security.”(p. 2)
What it means to be a Profession
A profession is more than just a job; it is a field in which one holds expertise. It requires many years of study and practice to reach this level. Professions are high status occupations that provide unique services to society. Society depends on such professions for things as their health and security because of their expertise.
