Graduation Night

I had been waiting for this evening to come for four years. In a few hours it came and went, but it was an important time in my life. Graduation night was the end of one life and the beginning of a new life with different problems, worries and joys.

My family was there, excited and cheering for me because I had made it. I was in a classroom getting ready for the walk onto the field and thinking that I had finally reached the one night that would end high school life and start a new life in college. The time came for all the graduates to line up and start heading down to the field to begin the ceremony. The walk to the field seemed to take forever, as if we were all going to a funeral. I just wanted to get on the field and get the night over with, but we had to wait for the band to start playing Pomp and Circumstance. I was excited and scared at the same time because I knew that once I walked across that stage everything would be different. We started walking on the field and I was, in my niece’s eyes, the “line leader”. I sat down after everyone got on the field and in front of their chairs. The ceremony began.

I was listening to what everyone had to say, but I was not paying any attention to it. The time came for the choir to sing, so I got up and walked over to the microphones and sang. We sang Go the Distance from Hercules and I barely made it through the entire song. After the choir sang, it was time for the calling of the graduates. I was in the first row, second column and it seemed that they would never get to my name. I wanted the night to be over so I could start my new life. Finally, my name was called and I remember all of my friends fr...

I did not win any of the prizes, but I did win the girl’s dorm package that had every senior girls name in it. I could not believe it because I had never won anything from drawings. However, I won the girl’s dorm package, which contained a computer, monitor, printer and a small refrigerator. I walked into my house at five in the morning thinking that I had graduated and that I had accomplished something important in my life, I could move on with whatever came next.

The night of graduation, I learned that life does not end with the closure of one important event but that the ending of one event is only the beginning of another. I may not see the beginning of the event right away but it is there and it will always be there.
