My first claim is about how GM crops are superior to Non-GM crops financially and genetically. Firstly GMOs are less expensive to manufacture than Non- GMOs . Before my opponents try to quickly counter me and say that GMO's are actually more expensive than traditional methods of agriculture and farming, a study carried out by the Iowa State University clearly shows that without bioengineered crops, we would be spending more money. For example, Prices of Genetically Modified corn are 10% less than that of traditional organic corn. As Benjamin Franklin once said, "a penny saved is a penny earned". Ladies and Gentlemen, GMOs are about as harmless as a fly. In fact, Mark Lynas, the British Environmentalist who helped start the Anti-GMO movement in the '90s, said that you are more likely to get hit by an asteroid than get hurt by a GMO. The man who started the Anti-GMO movement, realized that he himself was wrong. Now, my opponents may say that organic ways of agriculture actually produce more yield than GMOs, but that depends on the environmental factors involved. For example, resources such as water and oxygen may not be the same as in other places, so if you plant something that's in the desert p, and compare it to something grown in a forest, what do you think the outcome will be? This means that my opponents can't say that an organic plant is 100% going to get more yield than that of a GMO. Their will always be companies that benefit from GMO production, and even if products are labeled people will undoubtedly still eat them. Whether you are for or against GMOs, it’s our right as consumers to know what we’re buying. People have the right to reject being GMO guinea pigs. Jeffery Smith, executive director from The Institute for Responsible Technology and author of Seeds of Deception said, “We think the single most common result of genetic engineering is surprise side effects. Therefore we say it’s not responsible to feed the products of this infant science to the entire population or release them into the environment where they can never be recalled. Clearly I don’t agree but their are some benefits to some extent of the GMOs. Which would be that they provide large amounts of food in short amounts of time and they claim that this helps world hunger (not completely) and it makes food cheaper for those who can’t really afford anything else but they also built it to be that way so they’re really only benefits that they forced to be benefits. For example, if someone stole your shoes on a hiking trip but gave you socks, you’d be thankful for the socks because it’s better than nothing.
To begin with, there is too much Gmo in our food. We should make less foods with GMO and grow more foods on farms. Also a lot of people prefer non GMO foods over GMO foods. First, lets get a good understanding of what GMOs are. A GMO is a genetically modified organism. That means that is DNA (or its genes) have altered or modified to make it better, more nutritious, durable, resistant to certain things, and more. So why were GMOs created? The answer to that is simple, they wanted to make their crops durable. That means that they are genetically modifying their crops, giving them insect resistance, virus resistance, and herbicide tolerance.
Less land and herbicides are needed to grow, resulting in huge benefits for the environment, consumers, and growers. Our world needs GMOs.
The term GM foods or GMO (genetically-modified organisms) is most commonly used to refer to crop plants created for human or animal consumption using the latest molecular biology techniques (Whitman, 2000). These plants have been modified in the laboratory to offer desired traits such as increased resistance to herbicides or improved nutritional content. Also, genetic engineering techniques have been applied to create plants with the exact desired trait very rapidly and accurately. For example, this is done by the geneticist isolating the gene responsible for drought tolerance and inserting it into another plant. The new genetically modified plant will now have gained drought tolerance as well.

As the demand for a larger food supply is increasing due to population growth, the benefits that GMO foods provide are being hailed as the only solution to the food crisis. However, many people are making inadequately informed decisions, and are pushing them to the back shelf. An English doctor, named Arpad Pusztai, did a study on rats being fed genetically modified foods. His study found out that rats that ate genetically modified potatoes had pre-cancerous cells, smaller brains, smaller livers, smaller testicles, and damaged immune systems. After finding this out, he then changed the eating habits of the rats by interchanging between feeding them organic potatoes and genetically modified potatoes for two weeks at a time. He concluded that whenever the rats ate the organic potatoes, their symptoms disappeared, but when the rats ate the GMO potatoes again, the symptoms reappeared. Pusztai study isn’t the only that proves that GMOs are harmful. Other studies have also shown that GMOs are linked to reproductive problems, immune system problems, accelerated aging, gastrointestinal distress, and dysfunctional regulation. It is evident that the majority of American farmers utilize biotech seeds, because of the risks that the insect resistant and herbicide resistant traits help reduce. GMO's make the life of a farmer much easier as they do not have to worry about rushing to spray herbicides, to keep weeds out, or worrying about insects damaging crops and having to spray pesticides. For instance, Brian Scott a farmer in Indiana, when corn root worms starts indulging on his organic crops, the worms will cause a significant damage before he can react accordingly and eliminate the problem with the use of chemicals. These corn root worms won't affect Scott's insect resistant GMO corn because the pesticide is always in the plant. In addition, the GM corn was created only to harm a small group of insects and this allows for other beneficial insects to survive and assist the crops, since Scott did not have to spray pesticides. Farmers use GM crops mainly because of a reliability issue, not only are biotech plants easier to maintain, but they are less likely to cause a devastating loss. To a point where even insurance companies will provide farmers with lower premiums. Troy Rausch, another Indiana farmer, states "... when you're delayed by a couple weeks by rain like we were this year, the GM traits come in awfully handy for weed control". The GM traits are of much benefit to Rausch as they eliminate the need for him to utilize his time and combat against pesky weeds. Genetic engineering is when the genetic code of an organism is altered to produce a desired trait, this is done by taking a gene from one and inserting it into the DNA of another to get the wanted end result. Any trait you can think of is coded by DNA, now once you know what codes for what you can use genetic engineering to essentially edit the parts you want to some extent. All living things use the same genetic code, DNA, made from the same four bases. Scientists can use special enzymes to cut parts from the DNA from one living thing and to the DNA of the target result is then a living thing that has a new gene and a new feature. Now genetic engineering can change how we live and what we perceive as normal forever.
