Gmo Persuasive Speech

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen,
My first claim is about how GM crops are superior to Non-GM crops financially and genetically. Firstly GMOs are less expensive to manufacture than Non- GMOs . Before my opponents try to quickly counter me and say that GMO's are actually more expensive than traditional methods of agriculture and farming, a study carried out by the Iowa State University clearly shows that without bioengineered crops, we would be spending more money. For example, Prices of Genetically Modified corn are 10% less than that of traditional organic corn. As Benjamin Franklin once said, "a penny saved is a penny earned". That's not all GMOs have in store; however, some GMOs are bioengineered so that they can withstand herbicides and pesticides …show more content…

Ladies and Gentlemen, GMOs are about as harmless as a fly. In fact, Mark Lynas, the British Environmentalist who helped start the Anti-GMO movement in the '90s, said that you are more likely to get hit by an asteroid than get hurt by a GMO. The man who started the Anti-GMO movement, realized that he himself was wrong. It takes a someone with real guts to announce a mistake to the world; however it also takes someone with guts to say that someone else is wrong. That's why I say to the opposition team, you are 100% …show more content…

Now, my opponents may say that organic ways of agriculture actually produce more yield than GMOs, but that depends on the environmental factors involved. For example, resources such as water and oxygen may not be the same as in other places, so if you plant something that's in the desert p, and compare it to something grown in a forest, what do you think the outcome will be? This means that my opponents can't say that an organic plant is 100% going to get more yield than that of a GMO. So far, I have been talking Genetically Modified food, even though GMO's stand for Genetically Modified Organisms,Nows the time to switch it up, and talk about genetically modified animals. This leads to me to my second claim that GM animals are the way of the future. GM crops are based on the same principle as GM animals, which is that their genetic material is artificially manipulated. Currently, GM animals are not sold commercially to the public as food, even though, Genetic modifications towards animals have been taking place for decades. Just as GM CROPS, GM animals can be made to withstand certain diseases and can be made bigger. You know what they say, the bigger the better. An example of this includes, pigs in Korea genetically modified to be bigger. Predictions made by the NATURE magazine show that the chance of you eating one of these in the
