Seeds of Death was created by Gary Null and Richard Polonetsky in 2012. The film goes in depth about Genetically Modified Organisms and its effects on the environment. The film mainly talks about Monsanto, which produces majority of the GMOs in the United States. Monsanto is chemical company that produce herbicides, insecticides, and GMOs. In addition, the film also talks about how GMOs are produce and what’s the reason for GMOs. This film dismantles the myths about GMOs and expose it for what it really is. Seeds of Death reveals to the public that GMOs are not only destroy our health, but also destroy the environment.

For instance, in Seeds of Death, Monsanto spread roundup, a pesticide, on their crops and realized a roundup resistance bacteria continued to grow. In response to this, Monsanto collected the bacteria and took a piece of its DNA to create roundup resistant crops. Although this seems like a good idea, it makes crops weaker and makes it easier for crops to be wiped out by a stronger disease. In addition to this, the pesticides also pull nutrients from the soil, therefore resulting in the microorganisms in the soil being killed. This, in turn, leads to the soil being filled with poison and also being infertile in the near future. An English doctor, named Arpad Pusztai, did a study on rats being fed genetically modified foods. His study found out that rats that ate genetically modified potatoes had pre-cancerous cells, smaller brains, smaller livers, smaller testicles, and damaged immune systems. After finding this out, he then changed the eating habits of the rats by interchanging between feeding them organic potatoes and genetically modified potatoes for two weeks at a time. He concluded that whenever the rats ate the organic potatoes, their symptoms disappeared, but when the rats ate the GMO potatoes again, the symptoms reappeared. Pusztai study isn’t the only that proves that GMOs are harmful. Other studies have also shown that GMOs are linked to reproductive problems, immune system problems, accelerated aging, gastrointestinal distress, and dysfunctional regulation.
