The link between gang violence and crime is well documented in current society, with media reports and government initiatives both reflecting the perceived problem individuals pose to society. Gang violence means criminal and non-political acts of violence committed by a group of people who regularly engage in criminal activity. It is generally accepted that organized crime exists in Canada, in major cities it has been a growing concern, especially in Toronto, Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver, and Montréal. Gang violence poses a significant threat to public safety and negatively affects the daily lives of Canadians. The importance of this essay is to determine whether the criminal justice system & law enforcement do an effective job when it comes to preventing gang violence in Canada. Nevertheless, law enforcement, governments, and citizens do not show increased interest & attention to the issue. One of the strongest arguments in favor of gang violence and law is that rate of gang violence crime frequently increases in most areas in Canada. Much research has been done into whether students feel safe in their neighborhood because of the lack of law enforcement involvement that reduces gang violence.
