Intro: We have learned a lot this year. All the things we have learned all fold back to planning for the future. Not just getting in the college, but also studying for anything. The things we have learned were GPA, Learning Style, Mindset, Academic Honesty, Time Management, and the THOrT Map. GPA: First of all GPA stands for Grade Point Average. Your GPA is a reflection on your academics standing and are put on a scale that ranges from 0.0 to 4.0. Your GPA is so important because college/scholarship programs will need a certain GPA to offer admission and give financial aid. There’s 2 type of GPA: Un-weighted GPA and Weighted GPA. It’s basically how you learn new things. It is important because it helps you with new materials and study them. You have 7 different learning styles. You have visual, auditory, verbal, physical, logical, social, and solitary learners. Visual: They learn by facts. They have to see it, to believe it. They benefit from using charts, maps, and notes.Auditory: They learn by hearing. They benefit from having soft background music when they study. They can’t have it too quiet like the library. Verbal: They have to learn new material by hearing the information being spoken to them.Physical: They are hands on type of people. Role-Playing help them learns the material.Logical: Logical learner is practical thinkers. They like to ask a lot of questions.Social: They work well in groups. They value what people say about their work.Solitary: They like to work alone. They will work ahead of people. Especially if they think it’s easy to them. The College Board craves to see applications with loads of AP classes listed on the application. The classes show that one would be able to survive in a college level class at their university. At nearly every college in the country, your academic record is the most important part of your college application. The people in the admissions office want to see that you have taken the most challenging courses available to you (Grove, Allen). “High achievement always takes place in the framework of high expectation” (Charles F. Kettering). Correspondingly, the Bolsa Grande High School Council decided to vote unanimously to raise the GPA from 2.0 to 3.0. The council felt that students should focus more in school rather than participating in a sport or a club. The school council made the correct decision because it develops work habits, helps students go to better colleges, and prepares students for professional life.
The biggest lesson I learn during this class is time management. I have a 9 month old baby and he allows wants my attention. I had to rely on a family member to take care of him while I get a few hours to read the textbook and do the writing assignments. I had to truly focus on my work and not go to social sites because I barely had time to do so.
It is time to turn the tables and test the teachers on the challenge of college. Throughout high school, students are told all about how difficult college is and what to expect. Not yet having experienced it, the students typically prepare for the worst. They teach themselves how to study based on the standards of their high school. They write papers, do homework, and participate in class in the attempt to meet the expectations of their teachers. They base their picture of college off their teachers’ standards and what their peers say. While many high school students have developed accurate expectations regarding the difficulties of college, the study skills acquired in high school may not be enough to ensure success at the collegiate level.
The data set used for this assignment was the grades.sav data file. The variables used were gender, GPA, total, and final. GPA and final were used in the histogram scales, along with skewness, kurtosis values, and scatter plot. This assignment included a sample size of (N) 105.
High School doesn’t offer. This influences their rank in the class because they have more scores than the students that have been going to school here. It causes their rank to be higher than other students. Thus, I think class rank should not be included on
Teachers have always used grades to measure the amount a student has learned. This practice is becoming ineffective. Many students have a wide range of grades, which show that grades may not show what a student really knows. Therefore, the standard grading system should be replaced. Some reasons why grades should be replaced are bad grades can hinder a child’s performance, grades define who a student is in the classroom, and grades are not an effective way to see if students have learned the material. The current grading system should be upgraded and every school should incorporate the plus/minus system in their method of grading.
Teachers must pay attention to presenting to their students, is very important in their education. If the student finds it too much of challenge there will give up and if it’s too easy there will be bored. An example of teaching strategies is scaffolding strategic support that teachers provide that allows children to complete a task they could not accomplish independently (Vygotsky, 1978; Wood, Bruner, & Ross, 1976). Teacher needs to plan out a task according to the child ability to help they respond and engaged the lesson there increase their independent performance in school. In conclusion, I learned many different things this year about my writing abilities, including what kind of writing I like, how to write efficiently and fluently, and the many ways I changed as a writer. When I walked into Mrs. Means language arts class, I was expecting it to be similar to last year, but with different material. I was totally wrong. I was challenged a lot in language arts to keep up with assignments and due dates. Most importantly though, I learned how to write a quality paragraph; something that will travel with me for the rest of my life.
Over the course of the semester, I have learned a few things about myself. I have learned that I can be independent, I always knew myself as someone who could do mostly everything on their own. This semester really made me realize how independent I could actually be. Not only have I learned how independent I am I have also realized the importance of time management. With not having a strict class schedule it was a lot different than what I was originally used to. After a few weeks, I learned ways that would work best for me, for example writing down that I needed to get done. I learned that I need to focus on what 's ahead of me to accomplish what I want to succeed in, to manage what needs to be done ahead of time to stay caught up.
