Over time different beliefs surrounding the mystery of life after death have accumulated in different religions, societies and history. Undeniable by all as an inevitable fate , is the definition has changed over time . Exactly what happens in life after death ? Is there a difference in the qual there is a heaven and a hell ? Or is it simply just an underworld in which all souls come ? Regardless of faith or time period , several authors of all ages have considered these questions in high esteem. But each story is different and belief , whether Dante , Homer or Cervantes, all agree that death is inevitable and with it eternal life. At first glance many similarities between Christianity and Greek mythology can not be seen , however , after closer examination you can see many similarities. Strongly influenced by two different cultures for two completely different periods , each "religion" retains similarities to each other , due in part to its origins. These two religions originated in the geographical area of Eastern Europe, with Christianity gaining popularity at the expense of Greek ( and Roman ) mythology. The differences between the two religions can be seen as first differences to the surface level . For starters , Christianity believes in only one solitary God . This god forbid the worship of any other god. Worship any god leads to eternal damnation , in fact , Dante placed tactically Greek characters ( both historical and fictional ) in his epic poem . In Greek mythology there are a number of many different gods , twelve in particular, are the most powerful and live in Mount Olympus . It was even possible that souls return to the world of the living , either by making deals with the gods or be rescued by living souls . The underworld was just the location where souls were to live the rest of eternity, of souls made like Achilles and Hector - who were enemies in the world of the living - now had the opportunity to put aside their differences and achieve eternal peace. After the analysis of Homer's Odyssey and Dante 's Inferno , the similarities and differences between Christianity and beyond the Greeks can be observed.
