When children are in elementary school, they do not have to worry about most dress code rules. They can wear shorts that come above their knees and tank tops that are not the length of three fingers. When we reach middle school, teachers make you start wearing shorts that come to your knees and short sleeve shirts. Most children at this age don't really think much of this until they move into the 8th and 9th grade. Dress codes are becoming too strict for students, especially girls.
In our schools we are not allowed to wear shorts that come above your knees. Today, it is really hard to find “jorts”, as we call them, that are being sold in stores. That is probably a clue that they are not fashionable at all and look stupid. For tall girls like me, it is even harder to find shorts that are long enough for school. Letting girls wear nike shorts should be acceptable in school. I understand that some girls might go a little too far and wear innapropriate shorts, but the school board can always make it a rule that the shorts have to be at least mid thigh. …show more content…

Having your shoulders showing is not a sin, and I believe that students should be able to wear shirts that keep them cool in the hot months of the year. Teachers say that girls can't wear tank tops because “boys will be boys”. I think this is actually insulting both the girl and the guy. If boy will be boys, then what kind of men are we raising in this school. Teens spend most of their day at school, so this is where they get all of their influences. The males at our school should learn to be gentlemen and how to treat a lady. Teachers and the school board council should focus more of their time on created respectable men, then getting on to girls for showing off their shoulders.
