The never-ending dispute of whether schools should have dress codes or not has finally come to a head. Dress codes are unfair. They're usually put into effect for girls. Some of the dress code rules include shorts needing to be up to or past your fingertips when your hands are by your side. Another dress code is girls not be allowed to wear spaghetti straps. Students wear clothing that allows them to express themselves. Whether it's a favorite movie or band, or just a favorite color, students should be allowed to wear this clothing to school. And finally, uniforms should take the spot of dress-codes. Uniforms are used in the majority of jobs in today's world and teenagers should get used to wearing a uniform for school. According to CNN, "They (shorts) are supposed to be longer than student's fingertips when they have their arms at their sides." Male students typically wear shorts longer than their fingertips while female students are being shamed for wearing shorts shorter than their fingertips. Another statement from CNN stated, “Immediately after writing a piece on how short shorts and form-fitting shirts are pretty much all you can find from most major mainstream brands when it comes to clothing for girls…”. Female students are being shamed for wearing clothing items that are most popular and are being offered to them by clothing retailers. It is also not female student’s fault when it comes to being a distraction. Male students are reportedly distracted by female students’ apparel, and therefore dress codes are put into act.
