Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. who was the great civil rights leader in the 1960’s. He was assassinated on April 4, 1968, by James Earl Ray, a convict that escaped prison a year before the assassination. This was a year of turmoil in the country, Dr. King’s assassination fell on the heels of Robert Kennedy’s death, and President Johnson decided not to run for reelection. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr was killed on Thursday evening at approximately 6:01 p.m. on April 4, 1968, which he was shot and the bullet struck him in the neck while standing on his balcony of the Lorraine Motel in Memphis Tennessee in front of room 301.
