Heroes come in all shapes and sizes. Our whole lives, we have heroes. As small children, our heroes might be our mom or dad, or even a super hero we watch on televison. As teenagers or young adults, our heroes might be a movie character, or a celebrety. We might have a "real-life" hero that we know and talk to everyday. However, we may have a celbrity hero who has impacted our lives in one way or another. For some people their real-life hero might be someone like Jillian Micheals who encouraged a major life change. Heroes come in many different forms, some more personal than others. We will always have people in our lives that we view as a hero, whether we realize it, or not. Sometimes, our heroes let us down and we beging to rethink what it really means to have a hero. Everyone is a hero to someone. One may be considered a hero because of his or her …show more content…
Whether we know it, or not, heros surround us in our everyday lives. We see them in our community, in our workplace, and many other places. In our community, they're obvious. They're the ones who put their lives on the line everyday and still may not get the gratitude that they deserve. They're the policemen and Firfighters that you see everyday. They're the soldiers that you don't hear about often enough. However, in the work place, they're the ones that people often look past. They do important things without getting noticed. They pull out the supplies needed for the upcoming activity before anyone arrives. They stay behind to clean up the mess. They're encouraging when no one else is. There are heroes all around us, whether we know it or not. Heroes are important. We may each have diferent ideas of what a hero is, and why it's important to have a hero, but heroes are good for us. They may let us down, but that's also when they can teach us a valuable lesson. A hero can be the one that helps us through our hardest times. Overall, your hero enhances your

Who is a hero? In contemporary times, usage of the term has become somewhat of a cliché. Over the years, the term “hero” has become representative of a wide variety of individuals, each possessing differing traits. Some of the answers put forth by my colleagues (during our in-class discussion on heroism) as to whom they consider heroes pointed to celebrities, athletes, teachers and family members. Although the occupations differed, each of their heroes bore qualities that my classmates perceived as extraordinary, whether morally or physically. Nonetheless, Webster’s defines “hero” as “a person who is admired for great or brave acts or fine qualities.” Thus, it is worth considering that individuals become heroes relative to the situation with which they’re faced.
Anyone can truly be a hero, even in real life. Heroes can be people who simply have an idea and decide to grow onto that idea and have it done. For example, Nelson Mandela and Mahatma Gandhi were real life heroes who started out as ordinary people but had a dream and made a huge difference in the end. Nelson Mandela, a Civil Rights activists, once said, “We can change the world and make it a better place. It is in your hands to make a difference” (Lazaro). Nelson Mandela was trying to say that anybody can make a difference, but it is up to that person or people to make that change. One simple change could cause any simple person to have a major change in lifestyle just because they decided to step up and do something. Furthermore, anyone can be a hero, it doesn’t matter what one’s background is, one can make even the simplest of changes and become a hero to oneself and the people around them.
In today’s contemporary world what is meant to be a hero is often mistaken by that portrayed in the media, through film and books. Far too often people think of heroes only as someone who risks there life to save another. But a hero is simply just someone who goes out of their way to do something for someone else and make a positive difference in their lives.
Heroes can be thought of as many different things, from super heroes and celebrities, to firefighters and even mothers. All of these figures have at least one thing in common. They all have the power to contribute, inspire, and truly be a hero of someone’s story. Heroic people have been around since the beginning of history. While a hero is someone who is determined, courageous, and genuine, they use those skills and characteristics to inspire the people around them to make good choices to better themselves and their world around them
When you think of heros most people think of comic books or marvel. When I think of heros I think about historical figures such as, Martin Luther King Jr. or George Washington. Not all heroes are like what you see as a kid in movies. Heroes are people that stand up for what they believe in. Maya Angelou a hero because she is strong, she went through a lot as a kid and wrote about her life.
Heroes are all around you and can be anyone you know. They don’t require any supernatural ability all they need is to have an impact on your life. We have received help weather we admit it or not and there are people willing to act as a hero in our lives such as teachers, parents, government. My hero was Kerry Mondestin and to me he is a mentor, father figure, and close friend who holds the nine characteristics of a hero. As I grow up I hope to become a hero similar to mine and later create more heroes
To me, a hero is more than that. I believe that a hero is very rare. It takes hardwork and determination to be defined as a hero. As my fourth grade teacher discussed heros in class and, she posed the question, “What makes someone a hero?”
One defining characteristic of every hero is that she thinks of others before herself. Many people, when called upon to name the heroes in their lives, will mention a parent or teacher who clearly put the needs of her children, above their own. When someone acts proves he cares more about those around him than he does even about his own life, he is considered a hero. Johnny Appleseed sacrificed many things in order to help other, the same applies to us.
When we are young we imagine a hero the same way we imagine superheroes. In capes, with superhuman abilities protecting the universe. We then eventually imagine them as athletes, singers/rock stars, actors, authors etc. Once we recognize the true definition of a hero do we realize who the real heroes are. For some the service men and women become true heroes, or possibly our parents, teachers, human rights activist, or someone who made a great impact in our or societies life. For example, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. bettered the lives of millions of people by bringing justice to the minorities. Gandhi, a hero too many people, led a nonviolent revolution to free his country. A hero is a person as average as you and I, yet they rise to the occasion and do exemplary things to fix a problem and better their
A hero is a person who cedes to benefit others. Through many complications that were faced they stood up with the greatest bravery. Welles Crowther is a great example of a hero who sought to help the other people in the World Trade Center during 9/11. Though he could’ve saved himself he tried to save others. Though he lost his life he inspired others to help others in need. Ling Young says,”He said,”I’m going back up again.” Cause he knows that there were a lot of people still up there on the 78th floor that needed help (“The Man in the Red Bandana”). Though he could have saved
Why do we have heroes? What makes a hero? Can anyone be a hero? We have heroes all around us. Heroes protect us from harm and provide us with guidance that help us walk through our daily lives. Heroes are selfless, brave, and noble. You do not have to be strong, have superpowers, or be able to protect the entire world from harm. Anyone can be a hero. You can be a hero to someone else without even realizing it.
Heroes are very important to us because they make us feel safe and secure. A hero will always be there for you. Heroes are usually always brave. It takes bravery to do the right thing.
Can anyone be a hero? A hero is someone who cares for others and will always put someone else before them. Heroism is not appearing on a movie screen and saving someone from a dangerous situation. In fact the idea of heroism is not always about saving someone. If a person is caring for someone they might be considered their hero because they care about them and they will always put them before their self. A stranger can also be a hero. For example a firefighter, if a someone is saved by a firefighter they might be considered their hero because they but their life before them self. Even if they don’t know the firefighter. Because heroism is about putting others ahead and being brave, when a hero feels hopeless they must stay confident
You also don’t have to kill anyone, conquer foreign land, or risk your life to be a hero. Anyone who influences anyone else by saving or helping save his or her lives is a hero. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. changed the lives of millions of people by bringing justice to minorities. Mahatma Gandhi, one of the greatest heroes, led a nonviolent revolution to free his country.
