Hello Mrs. Connors, I would like to deeply thank you and the admissions committee for the time spent reading the applications as well as for the offer of a position on the UChicago wait list. As it exists now, UChicago is my premier choice in universities and I would happily attend if given the chance. The same elements I first fell in love with - brilliant educators, extracurriculars so varied that quidditch is an option, and a network of alumni and systems dedicated to moulding a bright future for students - met with new ones after my interview on campus. Beyond all else, the striking architecture was the most beautiful aspect of the school, leading me to roam campus for a few hours on my own while I marveled modern sights such as the Mansueto library and their juxtaposition to older pieces, my favorite being the Gothic Joseph Bond Chapel. To begin, I was invited to attend the Augustana Honor Band as the second chair trombone in their ensemble. Following that, I successfully auditioned for a place in the SEIBA (Southeast Iowa Bandmasters Association) Honor Band as seventh chair out of a total of twelve. The privilege of attending increased my capabilities with the trombone and gave a refreshing insight into practicing. Appreciation grew, and just this last week I joined in a combo with one of our school's jazz choirs, Jazz Etc., to receive a second place prize in the state jazz choir championships. One challenge remains daunting despite the progress I have made: whether or not I will be able to play well enough to make my little brother fidget less during concerts and show the same level of interest in music as he does in the auditorium ceiling remains the

Where I learned how to become a leader through the leadership ensemble within the marching band. Where in my senior and fourth year of marching competitively, I became the Drum Major, and earned the Best Drum Major Award at the Roxbury Marching Band Classic Competition. From marching band I progressed into jazz music, where I became the lead alto saxophonist in the top jazz band at my school during my junior and senior year. I was also one of three saxophonists in the top band at my school. I picked up the clarinet, the flute, and the soprano saxophone on my way through high school, and have played all three as well in my performing ensembles. I played in the pit orchestra of the theater production of “All Shook Up”, and was the principal saxophonist at my high school. Too be short, I am very involved in all things music in the past and currently. Band and music have been a place for me to rely on, something that brings me joy when sad. Last year, I had the privilege of being selected for our school's select choir, North Naturals. The Congregation Sons of Israel in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania honored us with the chance to perform at their annual Holocaust Memorial Service. The Messiah College Women's Choir also invited us to perform as a guest in their annual spring concert, in which I performed a solo, along with some members of the Women's Chorus. In my first piano recital at the age of eight, I felt overwhelmed by the audience' s applause. Since that first recital, I became very committed to music and attempted to build a music career. At age six, I began playing the piano, and at age fifteen, I began playing the trumpet. Admitted by a professional music high school at age sixteen, I had the opportunity of exploring the broad world of music, and the high quality of instruction greatly enriched my music background. After intensively preparing for my first trumpet competition, I won the championship of trumpet competition for the remaining two years of high school. By attending various kinds of competitions, I further developed my musical interest and abilities.
College Admissions Essay If someone asked me where I am going to be in ten years, this would be my answer. I have a great, high-paying job, and beautiful wife and family, and a nice sports car parked in front of my lovely house. When I look into the future, I see myself being successful and happy. I loved playing famous marches and preludes by Bach, Beethoven, or even John Adams. I'm always eager to immerse myself into the diverse and complex music that concert season holds and see what new challenges await me, whether it be all region, playing in another band, auditioning for an honor band, or auditioning for concert solos. Playing in a professional orchestra can take upwards of ten years of music education and most music students can only dream of playing in one someday, but I have already had the opportunity and pleasure of doing so. The JROTC group at my school hosted an event where the National Air Force Band would come and perform in our auditorium with a select five or six students from our high school band, handpicked by the director of the National Air Force Band director, to play with them during one of their songs, and I happened to be one of those lucky students. This would be my first time playing with a professional band and I was so excited, I could hardly contain the huge grin on my face the whole time I was on stage.We played our song and were given a certificate that stated that we were apart of the National Air Force Band. I began to play the trumpet in the fifth grade and have fell in love with it ever since. I have learned not only playing skills from band, but also how to meet others and find shared interests in our lives that may not have been noticeable at first glance. I have been able to make the ATSSB Region band every year of high school, and have used my playing skills to branch out to others. Through band I have also built my leadership skills as section leader of my band. By leading in two different areas I have learned how to balance responsibilities and also make sure tasks are accomplished. The summer of 2015 I spent at the S.T.E.P (Science and Technology entry Program) at the University of Rochester. This program is designed to aid minority students into medical fields: this program introduces youth to medical positions, the college application process, and hands on learning (IV placement, blood pressure, etc.). The final project involved interviewing a current doctor, about their journey to a medical occupation. I was selected to present my project in front of family, and guests, and received a scholarship for the Mini Medical School program. With some media outlets reporting that cover letters are dead, writing one may seem like a waste of time. An estimated 47 percent of applicants did not include one with a recent application, and only 26 percent of recruiters thought that they were important. [1] With that said, there is still an importance to making a cover letter in 2017. They may be less relevant today, but applicants should still have one ready. Executive positions and higher-paying jobs tend to require one.
The phrase “short and sweet” plays a key factor in what I learned because in the cover letter you can’t be too overwhelming in your explanation. Also, I learned about how the cover letter is more important than the Resume and it should not just copy the resume. The letter must tell the employer about what kind of job that you want and why you want to work for the employer.
