Topic: High schools in Ontario currently require all students to perform 40 community service hours before they graduate. Should university undergraduates also be required to complete a set number of service hours before they can receive their degree?
Thesis: By requiring university undergraduates to complete a set number of community service hours they will not only enhance their learning academically and learn new life skills, but also have an opportunity to become more involved in their community.

Throughout someone’s time in university, undergraduate students do not only grow academically, but they also learn many other valuable skills which will benefit them throughout life. When students are able to learn using a practical and hands on experience, their learning can extended beyond the classroom. Having hands on experiences can benefit the student academically by teaching concepts and ideas in a new way. Academics is not the only type of learning that can be enhanced with practical learning as undergraduate students will also learn life skills that are not always taught in the classroom. While at university, undergraduates should also be involved in their community. In order to develop and grow in these ways it should be mandatory for university undergraduates to complete a set number of community service hours.
