My reflection report will be on how to teach a clinical skill, which could be done either by the simulation training “workshops” or in hospital settings. Any reflection report is basically an evaluation of a person’s records of certain findings about certain topic or experience I have chosen this topic because I just feel that teaching clinical skill is one of the most important strategies which have been used in medical schools, it enhances students to build a confidence which helps them in their future career. My discussion will be based on Gibb’s Reflective Cycle (1988), it is very useful tool, it makes us to think through all the phases of a certain experience in a logic order, in addition it encourages us to think systematically about Each experience has a good and bad aspects, in another word have advantages and disadvantages, first I will be discussing the main clinical workshops advantages: .It translates theory knowledge into the practice in more effective way. . It allows the students to build their competence in performing clinical skills and to be ready for clinical practice, in a safe, non-risky environment. . Provide students the opportunities to practise and make mistakes without the risk to the patients or themselves. . Decrease students’ anxiety and stress in performing any procedure. . Enable students’ to get an immediate feedback from the supervisor. . Patients’ permission and confidentiality will not be effected. While the disadvantages are: . Workshop cost as it needs to be provided with medical equipments and maintain this Increased student stress and anxiety. . Hard to find patients to be involved in teaching clinical skill, because patients will not always want to participate. In summary using those two different settings is so good in a way that they enhance and motivate the medical students, make them ready for practice, in addition it can influence their career choice in making them aware what kind of speciality they want to be in future. In fact classroom learning alone will not be enough to achieve the competence and the self confidence, teaching clinical skills at early stages during college will have a positive feedback and has potential benefits not only on the students but for other stakeholders. This experience will definitely influence my future practice; my action plan would be using those teaching strategies in preparing students to face the clinical environment, to ensure optimal patients’ health outcomes and it helps to build a competent and independent clinician. However, we have to keep in mind that we always have to update ourselves with new technology as there are ongoing new technologies are coming up for example the SimMan mannequin, we need to get the potential benefit from this technology in order to increase teaching
