The role of a Chief Information Officer is an important one. It has developed into large role from where it started, which was to fix things that broke. A CIO typically will report to the uppermost level in an organization. They follow “the lead of the mayor, governor, board of supervisors, president or CEO” (Wood, 2016). The Chief Information Officer is responsible for developing and distributing technical operations for an entire company or organization. The CIO is not only responsible for ensuring that the technologies are up to par for an organization they must also guarantee that the vision of the company stays intact while sticking to the strategic plan of the organization. They must keep an organization basic infrastructure online and secure as well as having the responsibility for the operation and security software layer (Wood, 2016). They act as a liaison between their IT department and the rest of the organization or company too. A Chief Information Security Officer typically reports to the Chief Information Officer.
