Giuseppe Garibaldi never lacked admirers. In my eyes he is one of the best world leaders because he was a great man and unified many places like Italy. For a period of time he was the most widely known person in the world, as an Italian revolutionary Garibaldi became a worldwide celebrity even before he succeeded in uniting Italy. He was an Italian general and politician who played a large role during the creation of Italy as the country we now know it to be. He helped free Italy from foreign rule. Garibaldi is best known for his military leadership in the unification of Italy (Giuseppe Garibaldi).
Garibaldi was born on July 4 of 1807 in Nice, France. He is the son of Domenico Garibaldi, a fishermen and coastal trader. His full name was Joseph Marie (Giuseppe Garibaldi). He was a sailer for almost 10 years in the mediterranean and the black sea. In 1832 he obtained a master’s certificate as a merchant captain . In 1833 he served in the navy of the kingdom of Piedmont-Sardinia, he came under the influence of Giuseppe Mazzini , the great leader of Italian nationalism. Garibaldi came in contact with Mazzini’s patriotic society,Young Italy. He visited the headquarters of this organization, in marseilles. Garibaldi, in 1834, took part in a mutiny intended to provoke a republican revolution in Piedmont, but it failed.He escaped to France and when he was away he was sentenced to death by a Genoese court. He managed to escape to South America, where he lived from 1836 to 1848.(Garibaldi 9). There he took part in Brazilian struggles. Garibaldi as a soldier and naval captain helped fight for the breakaway of the state of Rio Grande, in its struggle to free itself from the Brazilian empire. Although Cavour and Victor Emmanuel did not dare to stop him, but they were ready to help him if he won. Garibaldi accepted this unwritten arrangement, confident that he could force Cavour to support a move toward the unification of the Italy. He won the battle of sicily and named himself “Dictator of the Two Sicilies”. Garibaldi fought the biggest battle of his life when he went into naples with 30,000 men and won. after he won he held a poll which allowed him to give King Victor Emmanuel the land of southern Italy. Victor Emmanuel was the new king of unified Italy.At this time, Garibaldi was even more popular than the king and was considered a national hero until his death on June 2, 1882.
