After an army officer was denied entry to his daughter’s school because of his uniform, military uniforms have reevaluated if they are offensive, what they represent, and if they should be allowed as any other type of clothing worn because of possible prejudice. The uniform itself does not prove to be harmful and is a work uniform like any other. Although, others say the uniform is a symbol of violence and war, innocent people die overseas, and the military personnel could come armed. Military uniforms should be allowed in public places as an individual right. Military uniforms should be socially acceptable because it is a uniform used for work, to represent the profession of working for the American government and their people. The military has just as much will as the American people to want the country at its best through their patriotism. Many people identify patriotism by devotion to their country, which the military is devoted enough to make that their career and wear their uniform. Despite these men and women’s devotion, “others view patriotism as a result of arrogance, conceit and egotism, that the concept is narrow and instead leads to our country participating in civilized slaughter and a principle that justifies training murderers to impose America's superiority on others” (History and Debate of Patriotism). Americans should be proud of the country that they have constructed, and still are constructing, although the military can not be generally viewed by the public as trained assassins that can kill anyone, including the homeland, to impose the country’s power at will. The motherland is supposed to be protected and enhanced by the military, which are American citizens, that have joined and stayed a citizen of the country because of their patriotism.
