Suicide, a permanent solution to a temporary problem. Why are so many kids to sorting to this horrid decision? Is it really necessary? Do they know that there are better options? Many organizations have been made to help kids with getting through rough times. The Yellow Ribbon project has been very successful by getting this very point across. Therefor this is why it's one of the best organizations out there for suicidal prevention
The Yellow Ribbon Project was founded in 1994 by the Family And friends of Mike Emme. Mike Emme took his life in 1994 due to NOT know that there were better choices for his life. He left a letter to his parents saying “Don’t blame yourselves, Mom and Dad, I love you.” It was signed, “Love Mike 11:45 p.m” His parents pulled in the driveway at 11:52. They were too late. Mike rescued this 1968 Ford Mustang from a field where it had sat. He basically made it now, when he was restoring it, he painted it this beautiful bright yellow color. Mike was a good kid, if anybody needed help with their cars, he was there to help. The night before Mike's funeral, his friends made cards with inspirational sayings that pertained to not commit suicide, they pasted yellow ribbons on every single one of them (the ribbons are shaped the same way as the cancer ribbons are.) Three weeks after Mike's funeral, a phone call came from a teacher in Wyoming. A student had given her one of the bright yellow messages from Mike's funeral. The teacher called because she wanted to get help for teens in her area. People from everywhere started to call. Teens also began to call and write asking to help with this organization. It was a nice effect for everybody. For one of my interview a blog that I myself made for this project did...

...s organization into our school really does show how we can come together in a time of need.
Further more the human race does not understand how the suicide rate has gone up shockingly since 1995. The reason for this is when being a teenager, the things running through the mind consist of thoughts that are both horrid and depressing. There are so many things that can/should be done to further this movement. The Yellow Ribbon Project is a great way to help people who are in dire need. The makers/volunteers have meeting and presentations regarding this. Another benefit is that the organization makes the first move to help kids by setting up assemblies or doing suicide awareness day, and it does help and has people thinking of whatcan be done. The Yellow ribbon project has been helpful to many people and will be around to help kids in the next generations to come.
If you won’t then there’s absolutely no purpose in reading the rest. I hope that you will continue because each of us that joins this fight could be saving a life. While keeping an open mind, you must consider all of what follows and attempt, in some big or small way, to implement or aid in the implementation of these solutions. Some seem simple, yet simplicity goes a long way. I truly believe that the combination of these little things in our high schools, Juneau-Douglas High School and Thunder Mountain High School, will forever change the social stigma around suicide. These include promoting a positive and connected environment, implementing the necessary programs, actually asking the question about suicide to peers, and recognizing the signs and knowing what to do after. In the words of Janet Reno, Harvard Law graduate and former United States Attorney General, “We can make a
A problem today that should be addressed is suicide among teens and young adults. Several lives are taken every year due to several unknown and known factors. Terribly shameful knowing all the help and hope that’s out there for victims, while on the other hand none of the victims may have ever even known a proper way to seek help (Miller). Risk factors leading up to suicide (also the known factors) include but not limited to: mental illness, childhood issues, isolation and loneliness, bullying and broader issues such as loss and personal pain (Bower). Not only should suicide be looked at as a big deal it should be looked at for what it truly is; “the third leading cause of death for ages 15-24 (Bower).” The problem does not stop when no longer mentioned, that only leaves room for more problems to occur. Not everyone with suicidal thoughts is willing to seek help, making the problem too common, something our society must deal with more and more today (Teen). Suicide is an important issue that should not be overlooked or merely talked
Today, teenage suicide is considered a big issue in America. Many factors contribute to this action whether it is overdosing on alcohol and drugs, cutting ones wrist with a sharp object, or pulling the trigger of a gun to put an end to their existence. Suicide is on the rise due to many factors such as family issues, social issues, and psychological issues. Increased education and awareness for the victims and their families could drastically reduce the number of suicide attempts yearly.
Approximately, five teenagers attempted suicide each day (Haesler 2010 para. 1). The fact makes some group of people (especially the ones who are part of the society) concerned. Somehow, youth suicide will result in an unintentional sign for help (Carr-Gregg 2003, para. 1). Communities related to the victims will be affected mentally and they will feel grief, pain, and loss that are so great that it overcomes the economic ...
Suicide is a primary communal health matter. It is the tenth leading cause of death overall in the United States and the second leading cause of death among individuals between the ages of 10 and 34.(CDC, 2017) Every day more and more people are taking their own lives. Suicide is a national problem caused by three main categories; biopsychosocial, environmental, and sociocultural.
I learned that prayer is really powerful! It dawned on me how much we could use that power here at this school. We’re so hardened and afraid that we don’t want to be the one to actually make the change. If we can have just one person who will pray for their peers the same way that Elizabeth prayed for Tony, something truly special could happen here again. We need prayer warriors who will fearlessly speak the truth to their classmates, that will pray with each other! We need someone who will rise up and lead this restoration of christian students who seek Jesus instead of people's approval.
Suicide is like a natural disaster; an earthquake, a tornado, a hurricane, a meteorite. Abrupt, jolting, devastating the lives of all those it impacts. It’s a life changing catastrophic crevice that rips apart the lives of the survivors who are left behind to navigate the grief left behind by the loss of their loved one. These loved ones spend years working through the reverberations; the anger, the guilt, confusion and regret. They search and search for the answer to the endless questions…. Why? What if? If only… I know this. I’ve been there.
With the position that we’re In with this band, we’re lucky enough to see things like that and learn from them. I think that it’s important that you try to make a difference, even if it’s only a small difference. (who we are) They were so young when they volunteered and because of that, as they’ve gotten older they’ve been inspired to do a myriad of other things for charities that not only include donating large sums of money to charities, but they’ve also thrown organized and helped charities for terminal ill children as well as children
On Wednesday, Oct 7, the theme that stood out to me was generosity and gun violence. As we got into groups and discussed our service sites, it became apparent how important our actions have onto others. For example, we discussed different perspectives of how we conducted our services and how we made an impact. For that reason, this reminded me of when I conducted volunteer work at an elementary school. I helped to facilitate Halloween by helping the kids have a joyous and violent free trick or treating. In addition, this helped the kids focus on having fun and not having to worry about the gun violence that plaque’s their neighborhood. For that reason, I took pride in helping these children have a Halloween they’ll remember by not focusing
People see suicide as a way to end the pain they suffer from because they no longer see the purpose of their life. Unfortunately, it is tragic that they don’t see that there is a purpose for them and aren’t aware that they were created for a reason and that their life does matter. The real question is why do people have the tendency to make such rash decisions? There are many contributing factors to why suicide has been a frequent action and it affects people in schools, spreads through social media, causes family problems, and so much more, therefore the matter should be resolved as soon as possible.
Over the course of this semester I had the great pleasure of volunteering at the Boys and Girls Club of Story County in Ames, Iowa. Throughout my time, I was able to learn about the organization and its services while interacting with the children and staff during its afterschool program. Well over 30 kids from kindergarten to middle school attend the Boys and Girls Club and I had the privilege of forming special friendships with a few of the girls. Most of my time spent was playing board games and table games, such as pool and air hockey. I also assisted the organization with their upcoming fundraising gala event in February by assembling letters to be sent in the mail.
LO 5.1) Suicide is a growing public health issue. Teens are an increasingly vulnerable group when it comes to mental health, and research shows that teen depression rates are on the rise. There is also a stigma attached to asking for help, often preventing people, not only teens, from getting medical support. Teens experience pain and hurt, they feel lonely and helpless and become hopeless and lose their will to live.
Suicide is the third leading cause of death for 15 to 24 year olds, and the sixth leading cause for 5 to 14 year olds. Suicide accounts for twelve percent of the mortality in the adolescent and young adult group. Young males are more common than young woman suicides. These are only children who followed through with the suicide. For every successful suicide there are fifty to one hundred adolescent suicide attempts. In other words, more than five percent of all teenagers tried to commit suicide, and the number is still rising. It is scary to think that four percent of high school students have made a suicide attempt within the previous twelve months. In a small safe town like Avon, in the Avon High School where you and I practically live, you can see the faces of 22 students that have tried to commit suicide. That is enough to fill a classroom.
In order to be an effective school, all school personnel must work together in a friendly, caring, polite, and respectful manner. There are a number of positions and employees in a school. “A school is a complex social system, and all the people in it contribute to making it run smoothly” (Kauchak & Eggen, 2014, p. 182). It’s important to acknowledge the contributions of all staff and faculty members. The principal, leader of the school is the ...
Often times when I heard the word "suicidal" I was curiously caused the person to do it. Growing up, I heard that people decided to commit suicide was because they "wanted attention, they wanted the easy way out, they were weak, they couldn't handle life, etc." Personally, I have significant people in my life that have felt like they wanted to commit suicide. So, this topic honestly is a difficult, yet, emotional one to discuss.
