There is a cricket maxim, "To save a run is to make a run." I am a diehard fan of cricket and the stated adage has set the academic and professional directions of my career. My country is grasped by a serious energy crisis that is impinging on the entire economy and society. Electricity shortfall across the country has surged over the years. During maximum countrywide temperatures, demand strikes peak and we experience continuous power outages. Regular power cuts aspired me to explore efficient electric power generation and conservation schemes. A major segment of electricity is exploited for lighting purposes. An estimated ten percent of the annual energy consumption in Pakistan could be saved by adopting solid-state lighting (SSL) for illumination. …show more content…

The province of Pakistan which I belong to, i.e., KPK, has very few quality education institutions. After my matriculation from Talash valley, a remote area of KPK, I had a dream to get admission at Islamia College Peshawar which is a prestigious educational institution. During exam a mishap shattered my academic dreams. Somebody threw a paper plane from outside exam hall that carried the script, "This is just for entertainment." Superintendent got exasperated and coerced all students to stop writing. I got 81% marks in matric and missed my target of securing admission in Islamia College by 1%. This incident proved to be a blessing in disguise and a turning point for my later achievements. Through my persistent hard-work and incessant motivation from my teachers, I got many prestigious awards. I got a gold medal and presidential award for securing top position in Malakand Board. Merit scholarships for Bachelor's and Master's were conferred on me which relieved financial burden from my parents. I provided guidance to many of my passionate junior students who were heart-broken by their earlier failures. I have a very firm belief that synergistic efforts on macro- and micro-level will boost education in …show more content…

I got internship at NILOP and conducted deposition of n-type GaN on sapphire, silicon and glass substrates using e-beam assisted thermal evaporation. Microscopy, AFM, XRD characterization, and Hall Effect Measurement characterization of the deposited samples were carried out at School of Chemicals and Materials Engineering (SCME). Collaboration with NILOP and SCME extended the duration of my Master's for six months but the practical experience I got at these facilities is priceless. This experience endowed me a comprehensive training in semiconductor device physics and thin films deposition process. It made me grasp the crucial role these efficient lighting devices can play in energy
