Born in Austria in 1889, Adolf Hitler was one of the most ruthless leaders ever known to mankind. He was the fourth of six children and was the son of Alois Hitler and Klara Polzl. At the age of 3, his family moved from Austria to Germany to find a better life for themselves. Hitler grew up in an unsteady environment constantly getting into arguments with his father. His younger brother, Edmund, died suddenly in 1900. That is what most people say led to his "detachment". At an early age, Hitler became interested in German nationalism and politics. In 1903, his father, Alois, died which became a turning point in his life. Klara, his mother, allowed Hitler to drop out of school two years after his father's death. While he stayed at the shelter, he created his belief in anti-Semitism. In the first World War, he served in the German army, but as an Austrian citizen. Hitler received numerous awards including the Iron Cross First Class Award and the Black Wound Badge. After the Germans surrendered the First World War in 1918, Hitler believed that they were betrayed and wanted revenge. He returned to Munich to become an intelligence officer for the military. While on the job as an officer, Hitler adapted many of his anti-Semitism and anti-Marxist ideas. As he slowly rose to power, Adolf Hitler designed a banner as his symbol with a white circle on a red background with a swastika, which later became the sign of the Nazi party. Most of those deaths took place in concentration camps where the Nazis would use gas chambers, firing squads, carbon monoxide connected to shower heads, suffocation, and the most effective technique, Zyklon B which was also a form of gas. Usually the first group of people to be killed with these techniques were the sick, the weak, the elderly, and the young. Families were separated without the opportunity to say goodbye to each other. Most of these concentration camps were based in Poland, one of the first countries Hitler invaded when he came into power.
