Health Education Systems in Finland, Norway, and Ethiopia

Health education is any combination of learning experiences designed to help individuals and communities improve their health, by increasing their knowledge or influencing their attitudes (WHO 2013). According to WHO it is important to have skilled health workers which have technical competencies so that they can available to different kind of people. (WHO 2013.) The study of nursing is an education in a profession of health care. Nurses are responsible for giving quality health care for everyone. (Education.com.2013.) In this task I analyse and compare the structure of the health education systems in Finland, Norway and Ethiopia. The main questions are • Who are responsible for planning the curriculum in health care education? • What are the levels, main subjects, and dimensions of professional education? • What is the meaning of national culture in health care education? 2. HEALTH EDUCATION IN FINLAND In Finland everyone has access to education. The finnish education is known from high-quality. The Finnish education policy is built on the lifelong learning principle. Public authorities secure, that finnish citizen get education also after compulsory schooling. In Finland education is free from primary to higher education. (Opetus- ja kulttuuriministeriö 2013a.) The Government and the Ministry of Education and Culture are responsible for preparing and implementing education. (Opetus- ja kulttuuriministeriö 2013a.) According to the Finnish Ministry of Education the education system is composed of nine-year basic education (comprehensive school), upper secondary education (general education and vocational education and training) and higher education ( universities and polytechnics) (Opetus- ja kulttuuriministeriö 2013b.) REFLECTION Finland and Norway are both developed countries and their education systems are very similar. In both countries ministry of education is responsible for education and the structure of education is same kind. The system is quite a clear than system of Ethiopia. It was difficult to search information of education system in Ethiopia. The system seems to quite a complicated. Because of Ethiopia is very poor country so health system and education is not organized well. People in Ethiopia rather work than get educated, because they need to money to survive. Mostly of people live in countryside and they don’t have possibility to go school. I think that in Norway and Finland people are in very good situation, because it is easy to get education.
