Global Warming is an increase in the average temperature around the world. Scientists have been able to trace the global climate and concluded that over the last ten thousand years, the climate of the earth has been relatively constant. In the twentieth century, the global temperature increased 0.740°C. The change in the warming, and cooling, of average global temperatures cause climate change, a change related to climate patterns such as temperatures, rainfall, wind and humidity. This flux in temperature is affected by multiple factors making it hard to determine the true source of problem. Evidence supports that the earth's warming is natural; however, some data indicates that the warming trend has increased due to human activity. Global Warming due to Human Activity Every day human activity has negative effects on the environment. The burning of fossil fuels has released large concentrations of carbon dioxide (CO2) into the atmosphere. Developing countries such as China and developed countries such as the United States (US) are consuming more fossil fuel, thus releasing more CO2 from their admissions (Vital Signs 42). This released CO2 is more evident in urban areas. Many activities such as driving, using gas stoves, and burning coal release different type of gases known as greenhouse gasses. A greenhouse gas is a gas that retains heat in the atmosphere and helps warm the earth's temperature, which is known as the greenhouse effect. The heat is retained because the gasses stop the earth's heat from being released into space. According to Mary E. For the first time in planet earth’s history, one of its inhabitants has acquired the power to change the global climate. By releasing the huge amounts of carbon stored in fossil fuels over millions of years, mankind has disrupted the natural carbon cycle. We have intensified the natural greenhouse effect and turned it into a planetary menace that is melting our ice caps. In his award-winning documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, Al Gore (2006) states, “human activities, if unchecked in the next decade, could destroy one of the earth’s principle mechanisms for cooling itself” (p.291). The world needs to address the potentially disastrous consequences of our earth’s rapidly changing climate by acknowledging the existence of global warming and understanding its impact on the present and future generations.
Global warming and global climate change is the study of future increases of temperature across the globe. Studying climate change refers to how the over- all climate will change such as the dry places getting dryer and the wet places getting wetter. Global climate is dependent on “the greenhouse effect a natural process that helps regulate temperature” (Easterling and Karl). In the past few centuries humans have had a monumental effect on increasing of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. A greenhouse gas known as carbon dioxide is the second biggest absorber of the sun’s heat rays. Humans affect the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere in many ways. Every time fossil fuels are burned, more carbon dioxide is released into the air. Car exhaust emissions also increase the amount of carbon dioxide in the air, and more carbon dioxide means more heat rays being absorbed. This will cause the earth’s temperature to warm.

The debate on the issue of Global Warming is fiery hot. There are many skeptics who do not believe in the existence of Global Warming. However, there is validity in the theory that Global Warming is real. The fact is that Global Warming is real and it is here. There is more than enough evidence to assure the existence and the disastrous effects of Global Warming. The Earth and its inhabitants continue to suffer the consequences every day. There are critics which try their hardest to deny the fact that Global Warming is a true issue to be concerned about. However, those skeptics are going to feel the heat eventually, for they are playing with fire.
Humans and animals breathe out Carbon Dioxide, often referred to as the greenhouse gas, as a waste product. Plants take in this CO2 and use it to make food. This is called photosynthesis. During this process oxygen is released which is then breathed in by humans and animals. This procedure is repeated over and over and a natural balance is obtained. However this natural balance is disrupted by human activity. People of the world are putting more than 5.5 billion tons of CO2 into the atmosphere every year. 75% of this is caused from the burning of fossil fuels. These fuels are burnt all the time to run factories, power plants and vehicles. The main sources of CO2 emissions are electric utilities, residential buildings, industry and transportation. The other 25% is induced by the destruction of the world's forests. The reason for this is that there are less trees and plants to take in the CO2 but there is just as many, if not more, humans and animals to breathe it out.

Background and Audience Relevance: There are always conversations about our planet. We see our earths glaciers melting, weather temperature rising, and pollution affecting our resources. But for some reasons we tend to look away. We should be more aware of this potential event and I’m here to inform everyone about what actually is global warming and the effects of it.

As we all know, Global Warming has become a major scientific and social issue during the past decade. Global Warming - the increase in greenhouse gasses- has captured broad public attention because it would easily damage the nature and many souci-cultural aspects of life. That's why it should be investigated thoroughly. In the following essay, I will introduce you to the different approaches of some writers and state their possible answers to this global problem.
Global warming is the increase of earth’s average surface temperature. Over the last century, the average global surface temperature has increased by more than one degrees Fahrenheit, while the twelve warmest years ever recorded have all taken place after 1998 as seen on the graph below ("Global Warming: Confronting the Realities of Climate Change"). There is a clear indication that earths surface temperature is rising. There are many consequences of global warming. The ice caps are melting, this is ruining habitats and endangering many animals that rely on the ice caps as well as causing a massive rise in the sea-level. Over the past hundred years, sea-levels have risen by 4-8 inches. This could potentially harm coastal regions such as the Netherlands or the Gulf of Mexico. Another consequence of global warming is the forming of deadly weather patterns. Warmer oceans pump more energy into storms which could make them stronger and more deadly. While risks of droughts are also increasing due to greater evaporation, which could lead to many wildfires (“Consequences of Global Warming”). Therefore it is important to keep global warming at a minimum in order to make the world a safer place.
