Most people think their dreams are meaningless. They choose not to interpret their dreams in fear of realizing the true meaning behind it. I am certain that dreams do indeed carry significance behind them. I believe that dreams are a basis of communication between the past, present, and future. Precognition, which is the ability to see into the future, is relevant to a dream I had about my grandmother when I was twelve. I had my doubts at first about precognitions, until I personally had my own experience.
Two years before the dream, my grandmother suffered from a left hemisphere stroke. The stroke caused paralysis on the right side of her body and disabled her ability to speak properly. The communication I had once with grandmother was not the same after she was placed into a rehabilitation center. I was beginning to enter adolescence, which made me more aware of her situation, and seeing her suffer, was traumatic for me. Most of the time I made up excuses to avoid visiting her. It was not because I did not love my grandmother, but because seeing her so defenseless was devastating. I remember visiting her once, about a week before I had the dream.
I can recall the dream like it was yesterday, it is one of those dreams you cannot erase from your memory. The borders of my dream were out of focus, much like the quality of an old photograph. My head was light, and every time I moved my head, objects dimmed. I remember feeling like I weighed a ton, but regardless, walking was effortless and fast; I did not feel afraid or sad. My dream had no sound, it was silent, I did not hear any voices, the sound of dogs barking, nor the wind blowing. I was in my grandmothers’ kitchen, standing near her as she washed the dishes. I remember not be...

...The fact that in the dream she wasn’t able to speak, was a connection because she could not talk at the time in real life, it was just more evidence of her presence in the dream.
Unfortunately, the dream and its significance may never be explained. This dream has definitely convinced me of precognition. It made me realize that dreams have meanings and should be investigated. It helped me realize the connections to the time and people that I have all around me. The past in the backyard shaking the big tree, so I can eat oranges. The present observing the statue, that still stands in my grandparent’s backyard. The future of my grandmother’s death. This dream is a memory I will cherish and hold on to for the rest of my life. This dream, goes to show that sometimes insignificant events can have a profound impact on one’s life, just the way this dream impacted my life.
Ms. Hammond says that most dreams are actually about immediate concerns in our lives. Some dreams may help us know more about ourselves. Others might be practice for dealing with daytime problems.
In this brief analysis, Cherry explains how dreams have had philosophers star struck for thousands of years. Everyone has had at least one dream they somewhat remember and have been puzzled about, and this article helps explain why. “Why do we dream? What purpose do dreams serve? While many theories have been proposed, no single consensus has emerged.” (Kendra Cherry) Cherry states that some philosophers think dreams have no true purpose, but others beg to differ. Some psychologists think dreams actually help the brain grow. Although there is no right explanation for dreams, there are many different theories on how they affect us and what their true purpose is. 1 Freud, S. (1900). The interpretation of dreams.
The human brain is capable of handling and performing even the most detailed tasks. Although scientists can’t fully and clearly explain what that the definition of dreaming is, observing, testing, and performing different practices, has given experts and scientists enough information to have a general idea of what is going on in the human brain while in this dream state. It is a way to travel into time or into a place that could never exist. Dreams can be a gateway to see your future, to what lies ahead or a way to look back on memories. But not all dreams are made of absolutely perfect worlds, to where nothing can seem bad. Dreams are not always the best. When they are, they can give people an incredible feeling, but when they're not, they can make people scared and frightened, some even superstitious. Dreaming is just one thing many people are unsure about, and may never fully understand its purpose or meaning. There's so much people don't know about dreaming such factors are what dreaming is, how the body works while dreaming, and what purpose dreams have.
Yet dreams are notoriously difficult to validate or interpret at times. The Prophet sallalahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said: “When the time (of the end of the world) draws close, the dreams of a believer will hardly fail to come true, and a dream of a believer is one of the forty-six parts of prophethood. ”- (Bukhari) This clearly shows that the authenticity of a dream is related to the fact of how good a believer is.
At the time I was only two, therefore I have no memories of her, and however I do know that she is my guardian. In my life time I have had twelve surgeries for a variety of things. The first surgery that I can remember was getting a set of tubes placed in my ears. The reason I remember this surgery is because of what happened as I began to wake up. In that moment, someone was in my dream, as if they were with me the entire time.
The dream was about a little dog. The dog was walking on my chest, while
Have you woken up from an unusual or scary dream thanking god it was only a dream but then wondering why you had a dream like that anyway? Every night as we lay down to sleep our brains stay awake causing us to dream every night even if we do not remember. Researchers have studied dreams and their meanings for years and some believe they mean nothing and others believe there is reasons behind your dreams. Dreams are basically images or little movies our brain actively puts together while the rest of our body is sleeping. Dreams interest me so I decided to look more in to them and inform others more about them.
Conclusion: By gaining a better understanding of the history, science, and interpretations behind dreams, we can better appreciate our subconscious. Dreams can be very difficult to research and understand, but the various aspects of dreams is still intriguing. Even amongst all of the theories, myths, ideas, and opinions that attempt to justify and define these aspects, the fact that everyone dreams remains. The closer we are to understanding and interpreting our dreams; each one unique to the dreamer, the closer we are to appreciating ourselves. No dream is the same, and new understanding awaits us each time we wake up. Sweet dreams.
...Dreams are complex and confusing to understand. There are a lot more questions to be answered about dreams, and why we dream. I don’t think we will ever completely understand the dream world and the questions that want answered.
I also watch A LOT of true crime series and I have since I was around the age of 7. Also my favorite television series is “Dexter” and in the series Dexter has a sister named Deb who is a detective and before the dream I was watching “Dexter”. Another latent part of the dream was the involvement of a young child. I desire to be an elementary school teacher after I graduate so I think that is how that aspect worked it’s way into the dream. Another piece of latent content in my dream was how it took place during the “back to school” season. That makes since because I had this dream during the month of September which is when everyone usually goes back to school especially the younger kids. The City in my dream symbolizes where I live today so that is how it worked it’s way into my dream. Lastly, my biggest fear is of being shot. So, the part where I got shot symbolized my worst fear. That part of the dream also caused me to wake up
Dreams are a part of everybody’s life, this term dream is widely used to express mental images of something we may want, or something we whish we where. Dreams usually are seen as false, or just a child’s thing however this is seen mainly as the dreams conflict with reality. Many films of the post-modernism era can be seen that you would have the stereotypical way of someone wishing for something and it comes true. Even so Dreams are worthwhile and this will be shown below:
What role do dreams play in our lives? Since decades the significance of dreams has intrigued human kind. Many theories exist to explain why we dream, but up until this day the true reasons remain a mystery. From the religious, artistic and/or psychoanalytic point of view it has been assigned as heterogeneous functions ranging from communication with the gods and premonitions, to artistic creativity and various forms of neurosis. However, from a strictly scientific perspective this question is still waiting to be answered. The interpretation of dreams has become a very popular field of study. Some consider dreams as just an epiphenomenon’s of brain activity and argue that dreams have no purpose at all, yet there are many others who believe dreams do have a meaning and significance.
The content and the purpose of dreams aren’t known yet, though they have been a scientific discussion about it. Though it’s not only scientific discussion about for example, some people say/said that dreams are like visions and if that you have a bad dream something bad is going to happen. Or In Judaism, dreams are considered part of the experience of the world that can be interpreted and from which lessons can be garnered. The scientific study of dreams is called Oneirology. In modern times dreams have been seen as a connection to the unconscious mind. Dreams can vary from normal to ordinary, to really bizarre and surreal. Dreams can differ from meaning like; frightening, exciting, magical, sad, adventures or sexual. The events happening in the dream are generally out of control of the dreamer and the only thing the dreamer can do is watch and feel.
Most people believe that their dreams hides meaningful truths and that dreams and nightmares can show us some hidden thoughts. For example, people who are always scared of losing who they love are most likely to dream about death.
Fresh air. I opened my eyes. I have never felt so good to breathe and see the sunlight again. I was so glad it was just a dream, or I would be dead by now. I still didn’t understand why that pen was in this nightmare. Would I treat pens better in the future? Maybe, but one thing I had learned from this weird dream was that never ever cover your face with quilts when you are sleeping.
