Sarah Dessen
When a writer with a creative mind writes a story, the composition does not just become a generic, hear it everyday kind of story. An amazing author will become one with the writing and possibly put their own story down. They will put inspiration and life lessons they had once learned in the past, so their readers may learn it also. That is exactly what Sarah Dessen does, the life around her is put onto paper for others to learn and read.
Dessen was not like the other girls in her younger years. She would have rather woken up to a book on Christmas morning than diamonds or fancy clothes. This personality is shown in her characters. Sarah gets the message out to people that it is okay to just be themselves. Books of hers tell the reader that whether someone is tall, small or do not live up to society's standards is okay, and that people just need to accept themselves before they worry about others opinions. These characters have traits that their community did not think was “normal.” Haven in her novel That Summer was taller than anyone she knew, even her father, but in the end it seems that it does not bother her and just grows to the fact that she is who she is and she would not want to have it any other way. Also, in The Truth About Forever, Macy did not think she was up to paar with her perfect boyfriend. Macy then discovers that she should not have to change because she is not as “perfect” as everyone else, which is what Dessen wishes everyone out there should follow.
Not only are characters in her books a little piece of Sarah, but a small piece of people in her life. Some of the people in her books are based off of people she knew and knows. This author does not just use her own life stories, but also incorp...

...ls she wants and does not let anyone bring her down or get in her way of reaching them. Also, Haven in That Summer shows the reader that it is okay to be your own best friend, because sometimes she needs to except herself before others do. Haven may seem like an outcast, but she is okay because she had herself, and that is all she needs. Sarah Dessen lives by her own message in her books. Many people told her she would not make it as an author, but still seemed to do what she wanted to do. Writings of hers were criticized but that never stopped her from being an author. Thanks to that amazing quality of hers, other girls around the world are learning to never let others put them down.
Deep into the text, the reader gets to see a little bit of Sarah Dessen. For instance, the characters in her books have their own personality shine through, just like Sarah does.
I know that this sounds cliché, but as Jeanne learned in the book, trying to be someone who you aren’t never works. It is far better to be who you are and use your differences to your advantage. During this time where teens are easily influence by social media and what their peers say, I think that this is an important concept that teens should learn from the book. Even though not everyone is discriminated against the same way Jeanne was, everyone has their own struggles with self-acceptance and wanting to fit in. I know that this was not the “main point” of the book, but this is the one that probably hit me the hardest and is the most important to
When Tally starts to talk more with Shay she starts to reconsider what normal really is. In the first part of the book she want to become a pretty and have a normal life like everyone else. But after a while she starts to change her mind and she is trying to avoid have plastic surgery. She is a really adventurous person and like to have a lot of fun. She falls in love with David and they save the smokes together.
This passage gives readers an enhanced understanding of this talented author, as they see her passion for the wilderness during childhood.
...e relationship with men, as nothing but tools she can sharpen and destroy, lives through lust and an uncanny ability to blend into any social class makes her unique. Her character is proven as an unreliable narrator as she exaggerates parts of the story and tries to explain that she is in fact not guilty of being a mistress, but a person caught in a crossfire between two others.
At the end, the book ended up being dedicated to Christine Caniglia. I would definitely recommend this book. I really thought this book was probably the best book that I’ve ever read before (my opinion). The book was very entertaining and shocking at some points. Overall, the theme of the story was to be true to yourself and act the way you really are (the theme).
Many times when reading a novel, the reader connects with one of the characters and begins to sympathize with them. This could be because the reader understands what the character is going through or because we get to see things from the character’s perspective and their emotions and that in return allows a bond to form for the reader. The character that is the most intriguing for me and the one I found comparing to every book that I read during school was Stacey from the book “Ravensong” Lee Maracle. The character Stacey goes through a lot of internal battle with herself and it’s on her path to discovery that she begins to understand herself and what she’s capable of. Throughout the novel, Stacey has a few issues she tries to work through. This is emphasized through her village and in her school that is located across the bridge in white town. Stacey begins dealing with the loss of Nora, and elder in her town. And this in return begins the chain of events that Stacey begins on the path of self-discovery not only on herself but everyone around her. She begins to see things differently and clearly. Stacey is a very complex and confused character, and she begins to work through these complexities through her thoughts, statements and actions.

...She writes of the type of person that one can only hope exists in this world still. The message of her writing and philosophy is contained in a single phrase from the novel: “I swear by my life and my love of it that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine,” (731). This is an inspiration, awakening an inner voice and drive that impels each person to do their absolute best. It implores the soul of the reader to awaken, to become the ideal of the human spirit, and to rise until it can rise no higher. It is a call to anyone with reason, anyone with the strength to be an Atlas, and it is reminding him or her of their duty to live up to the individual potential. For as long as there are those who would hear the message, there will still be hope for mankind.
Throughout the novel the reader finds out that one cannot stew over a negative situation, but instead, find the positive in a negative situation and move on to better things. In addition, people should always be themselves because we all matter, no matter what our differences.
From poverty to stardom Louisa May Alcott has thrived through many trials and tribulations, but with her unremitting passion and determination, Alcott became a well-known author and role model. Alcott experienced many setbacks in her life. With these setbacks, she was able to create stories that portrayed her life experiences. Alcott’s writings captured the hearts of young children to grown adults. Although she lived for only fifty-five years, she showed her audacity to be support herself and her family.
Heathers thoughts on other people whether it was bad, “Their hair wasn’t combed, and their noses were snotty.” Or if it was good thoughts, “She came Sunday afternoon, she’s a good girl.” Heather shows acts of kindness and she’s not so kind at other times. The Good Deed, by Marion Dane Bauer shows that someone can change. Failures of Kindness, by George Saunders, is a good example of how Heather should have been the whole time. It tells about kindness and what you should not do.
What inspires her to write the story? As I read her biography I concluded that her personal life and experiences. she mentions that she started to write after her husband’s death. Which indicates that she was not allowed to write before and when in the story her husband
