Some of history’s historical events have affect the the habitats and how the Zanzibar Leopards lived. The leopards are only found in Tanzania in the Zanzibar Archipelago, on Unguja Island. The leopards where found in and around the Jozani Forest. The Unguja Island was separated from the main part of Tanzania during the last ice age, when the glaciers started to melt. One of the problems that lead the leopards to extinction was the population and agricultural growth, as more people came to Unguja, they had to clear more of the forest so they could build more homes and farms. Another problem was in 1964 after the Zanzibar revolution the island started an anti witch and leopard hunt, the reason the leopards were involved was because the leopards
The inspiring documentary film, E.O. Wilson—Of Ants and Men, showcases biologist Edward Osborne Wilson’s passion for preserving the biodiversity of our natural world. E.O. Wilson not only values the fascinating creatures (particularly ants) that he comes across during his research and in his daily life, but he also takes action and participates in the Gorongosa Restoration Project at Gorongosa National Park in Mozambique, Africa. The destruction of Gorongosa demonstrates the call for us—Homo sapiens—to realize how critical it is to concern ourselves with protecting the very ecosystems that have molded us into the complex species that we are; according to E.O. Wilson, “We adapted over millions of years to wild environments…We really need them” (CITE?). The better effort we make to understand that we are a part of this large, interdependent ecological community, the better equipped we become in not only being
Individualism and conformity--two very commonly used terms to describe anyone in today’s time. In comparison to the article “The Sociology of Leopard Man,” written by Logan Feys, one of the most notable quotes that relates to individualism and conformity is “to be a human is to be an individual human, with individual tastes [...][and]talents [...] that are distinct from those of others. Living in society, we are under constant pressure to surrender our individuality to the will of the majority, the school, the workplace, the family, …” (Feys Par. 6). To be truthful, conformity and nonconformity are used to determine a person’s inner-being, but every person is different, and in this case people will not always agree with each other on how they should live.
Individuality is a valued character in society and is what makes us who we are, if we lose our individuality and conform we lose ourselves. In the article “The Sociology of Leopard Man” by Logan Feys, the author describes what he thinks it means to be an individual and the dangers of conformity. Leopard Man lives in seclusion and is covered in tattoos, Feys uses him as an example of an individual that does not care what the world thinks of him. I agree almost completely agree with Feys’s ideas about individuality. I agree because of Feys’s points about false normality, and how going against conformity is what makes an individual, however I disagree with his repeated use of the word freak, but see why he would use this language.
The gorillas live mainly in coastal West Africa in the Congo, Zaire, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea and Cameroon. Gorillas live in the rain forest. They usually live on the ground but build nest in trees to sleep in. Gorilla troops keep a 15-20 square mile range which often overlaps the range of other troops. There are three different kinds of gorillas. The eastern lowland gorilla the western lowland and the mountain gorilla. They are herbivores and eat only wild celery, roots, tree bark pulp, fruit, stems of many plants and bamboo shoots. They spend nearly half their day eating.
Conformity, the act of changing to fit in. Conformity can completely change a person whether it be their looks, such as their the way they dress, or their personality, like the way they act around certain people. In The Sociology of Leopard Man Logan Feys argues that being human has a right to it, and that right is to be who you are. Society pushes out certain people for not fitting in with everyone else, but also says that nobody should fit in, because everyone has a different personality.
After plaintiffs Jenifer Cowles and David Balac were attacked by a tiger at the African Lion Safari on April 19th, 1996 the Lion Safari received complete negligence of the attack and also awarded 2.8 million dollars to the plaintiffs for the final outcome. One could disagree with the final outcome of The Lion Safari receiving 100% of the blame. One could argue that he plaintiffs should receive 50% negligence and The African Lion Safari should receive the other 50% fault for the incident that occurred on April 19th.
The drive to colonize the continent of Africa in the 19th centuries brought the European imperial powers against difficulties which had never been encountered before. One such difficulty is that of the local wildlife in Africa, such as lions or other big game animals. In The Man-Eaters of Tsavo, by Colonel John Patterson, a railway bridge project in East Africa is terrorized by a pair of man-eating lions. This completely true story shows the great difficulty in colonizing Africa by demonstrating the somewhat harsh environment of Africa.
Mountain gorillas where first discovered by a German captain named Robert Von Beringe on the Sabinyo volcano in 1903. The mountain gorilla is the largest of the gorillas, male gorilla’s weight up to 400lbs, and females weight 215lbs. Their life span is about 40 to 50 years. The mountain gorilla became known on 17 October 1902, and is a subspecies of eastern gorilla. It has long hair, jaws and teeth, and shorter arms, than the eastern lowland gorilla. Adult male gorillas grow silver hair on their back and hips, giving them the name silverback.
Hawaiian monk seals, Neo Monachus schauinslandi, are no ordinary species. They are Hawaii’s state mammal and are currently endangered. The Hawaiian Monk seal is rare because of many factors, which include overhunting, getting trapped in fishing nets, and overhunting of their favorite food, lobsters. Because of their rarity, the Hawaiian Monk Seal is a main attraction to tourists all over the world. Found in Hawaii, this monk seal is one of the two species left of the ancient seals. Grouped into the earless seal category, the Hawaiian Monk seal has two other cousins, the Caribbean Monk Seal (extinct), and the Mediterranean Monk Seal (critically endangered). The Hawaiian Monk Seal has a lifespan of 25-30 years, weighs 500-600lbs,
The Animal Kingdom is a modern exhibit designed to follow the “natural pattern” of an African community. The most eye-popping attraction, the Kilamanjaro Safari, is an open-air, nearly barrier-free animal reserve at Florida’s Walt Disney World. It was a major shift from a cow playground to a zone of care for other wise caged animals. Here, African animals freely roam through acres of savanna, rivers, and rocky hills. The rider is advised to be aware, “You never know what could happen in the wilderness” (Tate 1).
“Everything is subject to change. Our lives, the communities and societies we live in and the organizations we work for are all affected by waves of change. Some are gradual, others traumatic; some are of our own making, many are beyond our control” (Williams). Due to human nature and natural instincts, the word change tends to bring fear and anxiety in our minds. Although people might argue that change is necessary for the development of society, an analysis of change affecting rules, lifestyles, and emotions in The Giraffe, by Mauro Senesi, and my personal experiences depict the hardships people must go through in order to accept change.
These two types of leopards are in some serious dangered. There are ways to help this animals. Its possible to adopt a Snow leopard, this is called a symbolic adoption that helps save real animals in the wild. One can always take action, people can go and visit the wildlife action center to send a message to the government leaders. We can also speak up for wildlife, we can learn how you can be a powerful speaker for the wildlife. We can always be informed on how these animals are doing and with their population. With some sort of mail or app that requires in order for us to be informed. There are places where we can sign up and get instant alerts and updates about important issues affecting the wildlife. We can always become a defender of wildlife. The defender membership includes ourself to of these wild animals and their natural habitats.

In Ghana, the State Department of Wildlife is responsible for Wildlife preservation in Ghana. Kakum National Park comes with its uniqueness. One of its uniqueness lies at the fact that this park was established at the initiative of the local people and not by the State Department of Wildlife. As a Ghanaian, I am most intrigued about this. I believe that it is vital for a community if the local people stand independently and build it. It’ll be for...
