Technological corruption The wheel was once thought to be one of the greatest technological developments in human history but now it is seen as part of everyday life. As humans develop they make more advancement in technology and what were once the greatest discoveries are later seen as historical relics. Each generation builds off each other which in turn will leave problems for their children. In present-day men and women are suffering from the effects of modern-day technology and limiting their use of it. Parents and/or Guardians should be able to limit the time their child spends playing video games and on other electronic devices because of the increase of carpal tunnel and addiction to technology.

Now some people would argue that technology helps bring people together and brings the world closer together as the human race. One can see how someone can believe this, but in recent studies from that states “Cases of cyberbullying have increased by over a third (37%) in the last 12 months, with the vast majority of teachers (66%) citing cyberbullying as the biggest online safety concern in schools. ()“The first writer of You No Longer Need To Be On Social Media To Be A Victim Of Cyberbullying, Andrew Rossow, claims “Recent research shows an alarming increase in youth suicide which mirrors the increase in the use of smartphone technology by children.” The writer links one of the biggest problems in society to one of the easy accatibal products out there, Cell phones. Additionally, Bethany Hiatt, writer of Alarm over Surge in School Cyberbullying, states “The Office of the eSafety Commissioner has received 757 cyberbullying complaints since it was launched three years ago and completed 31,374 investigations into illegal and offensive online content.” With the advancement in technology comes the access to more knowledge and danger for children to get …show more content…
Knowledge is not always good for said knowledge comes from its wicked sibling understanding of truth. The truth that the world is a dangerous place. The job of a parent is to protect their young from danger and to raise them to be good people in society. As a result of the increase of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and the fear of Internet Addiction disorder Parents and/or Guardians should be able to manage the time their children spend on video games and on other electronic devices to protect them from said danger. If a parent can not protect their young who
Nowadays video games get nothing but bad reputations from people. There are people in powerful positions who are saying that video games have nothing but bad effects and they only promote violence which leads to children acting out in violent ways. Who are the ones listening to the people in these powerful positions; Parents. Some Parents have this misunderstanding that video games are bad and that they have a negative effects on their child’s minds and how they develop after playing them. The parents with that understanding are misinformed and need to understand just how beneficial video games can actually be for their children. Although, some parents think that video games offer nothing but
Another reason that video games are bad for children is because it can cause injuries towards the person physically as well as mentally. It can cause auditory hallucinations, enuresis, encopresis, wrist pain, neck pain, elbow pain, tenosynovitis, hand arm vibration syndrome, repetitive strain injuries, peripheral neuropathy, and even obesity (NCBI. US. National Library of Medicine). Tests have shown that as you get older the more video games you play the less ability you have to multitask while playing games. As well as not being able to multitask, video games distract players from the sensation of pain, so in theory a child could have a severe injury and not even know about it which could cause the...
Since Teen suicide is the second leading cause of teenage death in the United States, there is a need for legislation that promotes awareness and education about Cyber-Bullying. Due to the growth of technology in the American society, the younger generations of adolescents are adapting to the excessive use of computers, cell phones, and social-networking sites. According to a study done by Amanda Lenhart, 87% of adolescents who are between the ages of 12 and 17 are using the internet on a daily basis (Trolley, Shields, and Hanel, “Demystifying and Deescalating Cyber Bullying in the Schools”).With these numbers increasing across the nation, the numbers of adolescents being harassed through technology means is growing as well. The relationship between cyber bullying and teenage suicide has been named “cyber bullycide”. Studies show that 1/3 of teenagers who have used the internet have stated that they have received threatening or offensive messages either through text, e-mail, IM, and other technology related programs. In 2007 The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention officially labeled “electronic aggression” being cyber bullying as an “emerging public health problem” (Billitteri 387).
Video games have been accused of contributing too many acts of violence or aggression for decades. What the media misses is that video games have many benefits we haven’t found in any other media. Society should stop being afraid of video games and instead start looking forward to how we can best use them to benefit ourselves and our children. Anyone who doesn’t understand why needs only take a quick look at our society. It is commonly known that many children in the United States play video games. Even many heads of households play video games, too. Society is changing and non-gamers are being left behind.
Many people do not believe there are benefits to playing video games. The majority of them are parents of disgruntled teenagers. These kids meet a wall of parental resistance each time they make an effort to get the ban against video gaming lifted in their homes. They have used every typical persuasive technique available to them; including a promise to keep their room clean and free of clutter for the remainder of their life. Kids learn best in the company of trusted adults. That is adults as co-learners and partners not as police. Instead of implementing a total ban against videogames in their homes, a solution may be found if the parents and their children would join together in a fact finding mission as co-learners and partners to actively research the vast amount of data about the positive and negative impact of video gaming on the behavior of youths today. This is a great united learning and social opportunity for families in general. The children will help the parents to get over the hump of unfamiliarity about video gaming and not as police officers in their own homes. Most importantly, information empowers parents at a time when kids' tech interests have become a key part of parenting.
There have been so many experiments and studies to try and figure out if video games have a negative or positive effect on our children. A growing body of research is linking violent video game play to aggressive cognitive, attitudes and behaviors (D.A. Gentile, 2004). The 'Path of the 'Path of the 'Path of the 'Path of the 'Path of the 'Path of the 'Path of the 'Path of Video games can obviously be dangerous for our children, causing aggression, bad performances in school and obesity. Although we cant blame all of these problems on the use of video games, there have been many studies to prove so.... ...
Since the Early 70’s video games have been giving a bad name. Parents state that video games rot the minds of children and are influencing them do be violent. These accusations are far from the truth. In my research I found that there are many positive effects of gaming. Some of these effects are increased skills, creativity, general knowledge, and also help those in need. Parents can also take proper precautions and look into a game before buying it to see if it meets the criteria discussed in this paper.
Children growing up in the modern world of today would rather stay inside and play on the internet, watch television, or play video games than go outside and play. Serious repetitive strain injuries suffered after spending hours glued to game consoles is up 60% since 2002 (Par. 5 Clarke). Technology and modern society have created lifestyle changes that are detrimental to the well being of children. First, this paper will discuss the effects of technology and modern society on the physical and mental health of the children. Second, the paper will discuss the dangers to children resulting from new technology. Lastly, the paper will discuss the modern lifestyle changes in families and their effects on the children.
The rapid growth of technology in our society has become more dominant than it was in the 17th and 18th century. Today, technology is used for almost everything in our day to day lives. But the most common usage of technology is for communication and industrialization. However, every good thing has its disadvantage if it is over used, and since technology has become very dominant, it is used by both young and older people but more predominant among the youth of the today. Even more, technology has brought about social networking such as Facebook, Twitter, my space, piazza.com, instagram, tango, and last but not the least texting. According to socialnetworking.procon.org, “47% of American adults used social networking sites like Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Classmates.com in 2011, up from 26% in 2008. [26] on social media sites like these, users may develop biographical profiles, communicate with friends and strangers, do research, and share thoughts, photos, music, links, and more” (procon.org. 1). Although these sites help many Americans to connect with their family and friends, have we really thought about how these sites are discouraging some students to spend less time with their books, how young adults are losing their marriages, the indecent behavior it is promoting, and how it has escalated texting and driving in our society? Obviously not!
After reading all the information that is available on this subject, it makes one stop and think if video games are worth having around one’s child. Addiction to video games is very real and leads to an increase in emotional disorder and behavior disorder syndromes, attention disorders such as ADHD, and physical aggression behavior; it also can help with hand and eye coordination, improved learning ability, and can be used to reduce stress. However, this information has made me realize that there is good and bad in almost anything one does today. It just depends on how much time one does the activity and what one does. Yes, violence in games is bad for children to watch or participate in but video games are here so we must deal with it.
Cyberbullies are hiding behind technology because they can’t deal with the victim face to face. People depend on social networking sites because it’s an easy way to target their victim. Girls are more likely to bully online and boys are more likely to bully in person. Cell phones and computers are not to blame for cyberbullying it’s social media sites themselves that are to blame. 25% of teens say that they have been bullied through the use of technology and over half of young people report being cyberbullied. Cyberbullying happens 24/7 and never stops because technology can be used whenever the bully wants to use it for hurting their
This being said, it can be proven that advancements come with positive and negative effects. The video games of twenty-five years ago have evolved into something different and in some cases something dark. Research has shown in many cases that video games have negative effects such as: increased aggressive behavior, desensitization, and poor physical heath on adolescents. Many researches also think part of the problem arises because adolescents do not receive enough parental supervision with these games. After discussing these negative effects it will be obvious that more vigilance and regulations are warranted.
Alright let’s, just face the facts, our world as we know it is being engulfed by technology and there is nothing we can do to stop it. Video games are becoming a part of everyday life for people of all ages around the world. Almost everyone with a smartphone has an app that is a game, well guess what, that is a videogame. There are a lot of benefits to playing video games in areas such as the medical/health fields, learning skills that will help with educational goals, and even social benefits. Medical/Health Benefits of Videogames There are many medical and health benefits to playing video games in areas such as; rehabilitation, teaching self-care skills, safe sexual practices, and child cancer patients.
The focus of this debate is whether gaming on hand held devices are beneficial to young children. Watching TV and playing games on a computer or hand-held devices comes under the category of technology and digital media. In the twenty-first century technology has interwoven itself into the structure of developed societies and are now seen as a basic necessity in the negotiating life. According to Gunter and McAleer (1997) technology such as television has integrated itself on to the domestic scenes and is now seen as a piece of furniture practically every house hold owns one. It today’s society It is common place for various forms of technology to be used in daily life even by children.
Players who aren’t disciplined become quickly addicted because of the time spent playing. Parents should not allow a child to play video games at an early age because they can become addicted. Parents should not get their child to own a console
