In the story Wonder by R.J Palacio Summer is kind to other and doesn't care about what they think. She is kind to Auggie,Jack, and does what she wants, even when everyone else is doing something different. Summer is kind to Auggie because she sat by him in the first day of school at lunch. When the kids went to lunch all of them were trying to avoid him and Summer went over to where he was sitting and sat by him when no one else would. When she did this everyone looked at her like she was a freak just like they called Auggie just because he was a bit different. Another reason why she is nice to Auggie is because she stayed by him during the ‘plague’. The plague is what they did for Auggie when he came to Beecher Prep. It is when you touch him you only have 5 seconds to wash off your hands or you catch the ‘plague’ to. My last …show more content…
reason why Summer is nice to Auggie is because she left Savannah's party. The reason why she left her party is because they were talking about Auggie,Julian and his group and Savannah’s group. Savannah said that Julian liked her and then started to talk bad about Auggie. She said she would be right back and went to the bathroom and called her mom and asked her to come and pick her up. She doesn’t care about what people think. Summer doesn't care about what people think because, when she was at Savannah's house for her birthday party she said, ”Everyone likes you Summer.” This is when she then went to the bathroom and called her mom to come and pick her up.
Another reason why Summer doesn’t care about what other people think is that she hangs out with Auggie and Jack during the times they are hated most. When Auggie came to Beecher Prep, the kids at the school created the plague. Summer did not care about that and she hung out with him until Jack Will came along. When summer hung out with Jack when he had the plague, Summer acted the same way she did with Auggie. My last reason why she doesn’t care about what other people think is that she sat by Auggie on the first day of school. When the students went down for lunch the first day of school Auggie went to a table and he was all alone eating his lunch. Summer was at the table with all her friends and she looked over at Auggie and saw he was all alone. She than proceeded to leave her table and go over and sit with Auggie. She goes with her instinct and does what she wants and not what other people want her to
do. Summer is kind to Jack Will because, on Halloween at school Auggie came as a bleeding scream. Summer told Jack just those two words,”bleeding scream.” Jack was all confused until after the incident happened when Jack was hanging out with Julian and they were talking about Auggie and he said he was a freak, I have no idea how I can hang out with him everyday etc. My second reason why Summer is kind to Jack is because, when Jack punched Julian in the mouth she told him about the plague. This event occurred when in his science class Julian asked his teacher if they could switch partners so Jack and Auggie would be split up, and Jack and Julian could be partners. The teacher said that would be fine, and then Jack said,”I’m good Ms.Rubin.” Jack walked out the door and Julian quick ran after him. Julian said, “Why’d you do that? We could have been partners. You don’t have to be friends with that freak if you don’t want to be.” That is when Jack punched Julian right in the mouth. Julian then went around telling his friends this and Jack then had the plague. She is so sweet to Jack. Summer is a really good friend. Sitting by a kid that the school calls a freak, doesn’t care what people think, and she goes with what she wants to do. Just like a person I know. We can also learn from this. Don’t let other people change what you think and don’t judge a book by its cover. You never know what may be on the inside. Think about it, have you ever done something to someone you regret?
In the beginning of the novel, Alyss is characterized as dependent, loving, and imaginative. Throughout the story these traits mature and Alyss becomes more adult like but still is a little childish in certain scenes. One can say that the maturity that Alyss goes through affects herself later on in the story. During the story the
August proves to be abusive towards Rosie throughout the novel. For example, he is always beating Rosie, in a very harsh matter, when she does not follow directions. “’Move!’ he screams, waving the bull hook around her face. She swings her trunk and blinks. ‘I said move!’ He steps behind her and thwacks her in the back of the leg.
A recurring theme is shown in The Veldt and All Summer in a Day. This theme teaches that letting hatred and desire take over can drive people to do awful things. Despite this alikeness, the characters of the stories are quite different. Wendy and Peter from The Veldt play the role of the antagonist. However, Margot plays the role of the protagonist, her classmates (the supporting characters) being the antagonists. But overlooking this, the big picture of the stories remains the same; that letting hatred and desire take over can drive people to do awful
August and June understand May’s situation, so they wanted to help her not be sad all the time. While this may be true, in respect it is incorrect because when they help May, she feels ashamed of being a helpless person who cannot take care of her own problems. May does love being loved back, but not in a way where everyone has to worry about her and make sure she is not depressed. May wants everyone to worry about their own lives and future. She did not want everyone to change their life plans just to protect her and make her
The short story All Summer in a Day by Ray Bradbury is about bad judgement and illustrates the effect it can have on one's actions. All Summer in a Day is about the story of a girl named Margot and life on Venus. The story takes place on Venus the day before the Sun will finally come out, and this day proves especially challenging for Margot. The Sun only comes out once every seven years, and this leads to Margot suffering at the hands of her fellow classmates. Throughout the story, there are times when Margot is shoved, insulted and abandoned by the school children of Venus and these points prove how bad judgement prevails over other themes to be the main idea.
In All Summer in a Day by Ray Bradbury, Margot isolates herself from her peers because she does not accept their society’s opinions of the sun. The children welcome all those who conform to their ideals of their naive society, yet Margot distinguishes herself as a pariah and distances herself from her peers. William and his peers scorn Margot which brings upon her loneliness and unhappiness. An example of this is, “They edged away from her, they would not look at her. She felt them go away… And then, of course, the biggest crime of all was that
No one would talk to her, recess was spent in anguish, and she would find garbage and spoiled food in her book bag. As she progressed into 5th grade, some of the social atmosphere began to shift in subtle but profound ways. Being accepted into a clique is all that matters. Instead of being admired for class participation, as in earlier years she was laughed at and labeled as “teacher’s pet.” She said the rules were simple “shun or be shunned—if you weren’t willing to go along with the crowd, you would become the reject.”
She started realizing how there are a lot of great qualities about summer. Hansberry grew more fond of summer. Hansberry says summer is the noblest of seasons because it's the seasons with the best qualities. She also believes that when it is summer you can go out and go on adventures. I think noble means having or showing fine qualities and that is why summer is the noblest of all seasons. As an adult Hansberry loves summer and spending time with her grandmother. She looks past all other not so good things and focus on what's good about summer. Hansberry sees summer from other people's point of view and not just focusing on her point of view. She understands more than she did when she was a kid because all she wanted was for her and her grandmother to live to see another summer again
This is due in part to June’s appearance. June was a simple looking young lady with a body built larger than her sisters. June’s appearance did not make her mother feel inferior, which may have been the reason why her mother favored her over Connie. Also Connie’s mother would often give high praises to June, and mostly speak of Connie in a disapproving tone. This no doubt caused some jealously to be surfaced on Connie’s side. Although, Connie still believed her mother favored her over sister simply, because she was prettier.
Summer shows us that she is kind in a very thoughtful way. One way she showed kindness was not telling anyone that she was Teddy’s boyfriend. When most girls have a boyfriend. The blab all about to everyone. But if Summer were to tell everyone, Teddy and Summer would be all over the news, and Teddy did not want that. So, Summer did not blab. This was really hard for her because Teddy state's, “Most people don’t know Summer was my girlfriend. Even our closest friends,” This tells us that she could not tell anybody that she was dating
Connie's relationship with her mother and sister made home life less than desirable. The resentment that exists between the three of them was unbearable. Her mother's resentment was made clear as she compares Connie's "room cleaning" abilities. "Why don't you keep your room clean like your sister?" from that statement I got the feeling June could do no wrong! June was just the opposite of Connie, plain, quiet, and wall flower type. Connie was constantly criticized and compared. Connie was made to feel inadequate by her mother's constant praise of her sister, thus leaving Connie to create an alternate personality.
At an age when other children would be easily impacted by such ideas, one would think that Scout too would be changed, when in fact it is the opposite for her; her stubbornness and defined sense of self respect cause her not to be afflicted. While the young girl is only slightly influenced by these ideas, her perspective of human nature is much broadened as she learns that prejudice is a disease with far reaching roots. Aunt Alexandra’s behavior throughout that book illustrates that while prejudices are natural among individuals, the way that one chooses to assert his own can have a profound effect on
At the start of the movie, Allison was a person off in a corner by herself. She didn’t talk to anyone, she knew that she had a "place" in the society of school. This society of school, also know as clique groups, takes place at many schools, the one in the movie and most of all Richland High School. Like our school, this one has very many clique groups. In fact in the group of students in Saturday school, each clique group had a representative if you will. Allison knew that in the minds of others she was a loser because she was not popular and not pretty. So, we have here a girl who doesn’t think that she is pretty, and rates herself lower because of that. They don’t look at her personality or her inner being, but her outward appearance. She thinks that she is ugly because of what everyone else thinks. She has a low self-image and self-esteem simply because of what others think. In order to overcome this, she has to not let the opinions of others interfere with her thinking. This is very much easier said than done. In the middle of the movie, Andrew began to notice th...
In the novel Wonder by R. J. Palacio, parts three and four are written in the points of view of Summer and Jack Will to delve deeper into August’s day to day life as a student that looks unordinary in a school where standing out is not appreciated. In Jack’s personal analysis of August’s life at Beecher Prep, he describes his new friend’s handwriting and smarts, “August has the neatest handwriting I've ever seen for a boy”. Handwriting is generally associated with being smart, so Jack’s statement explains that August may not as stupid as the majority of the student body believes. August does not get caught up in the social part of school as much as the other kids, he’s more interested in learning. Jack believes that August contains
Jack feels bad for August being deformed and going to middle school. He feels bad because when he went for ice cream with his little brother Jamie they saw August for the first time and this is what Jack said “It was because when I heard Jamie talking about how he had run away from August. I suddenly felt really bad. The thing is, there are always going to be kids like Julian who are jerks.”“But if a little kid like Jamie, who’s usually nice enough kid, can be that
