Backlash of the women’s movement included the attack on anti-feminists, media outbreaks, and of course, violence. Women along with doctors had to live through a period of time where everything was seeming to change and not everyone was happy with it. Women were dedicated to making a change in society’s view on them. The life of a typical women during this period of backlash was trying to persuade others to believe what they believe in, stop the bashing from media, and break glass ceilings. Not everyone agreed with the women’s movement and began to show backlash towards it. Phyllis, along with other women, feared that the passage of the ERA would potentially devalue the role of a housewife, especially because they felt like women should get paid for their house work, after all it is a job to maintain the home. By this time in the late 1970’s, women’s liberation began to fade away and caused a shift in feminism in the 1980’s. The shift included many aspects such as academia, labor activism, peace movement, progressive reforms, and the increase in women’s shelters. The start of eco feminism also formed with a group of women that were actively involved in the environment/green movement.
