Kneel. Stand. Sit. During mass, the congregation is asked to stand, kneel and sit several times. Sometimes people are asked to stand or sit or you can just follow the priest’s lead if he’s quiet. Every mass seems repetitive but in fact each mass is carefully planned out from the opening prayer to the ending hymn. The only time it can be different is when the priest, deacon, or bishop does the homily, which is when he speaks to the congregation. This is a time when he expands on the readings or if there is a special occasion that they need to talk about, this is the time they do it. “If you go to Mass as often as you’re supposed to, you hear just about the whole Bible in a cycle of about three years, after which it starts again” (Kevin …show more content…
Nuns, as with the ordained positions, go through extensive formal education and take vows of celibacy and poverty. The process for a woman to become a nun takes a few years. During this process, she and the monastery will determine if she was meant for this life. A nun’s role is to pray, preach and do social work for the community. “Catechizing; both Catechumens and Christians; visiting families, the poor, the sick, outcasts; Involvement in retreats and spirituality sessions; teaching religion, to the level of theology, in every capacity; the mass media: press, radio, television” are roles that women are allowed to take on in the Catholic church (Byrne, 1994). As mentioned earlier, the Virgin Mary is one of the most important figures in the Catholic Church, Mary herself being the mother of the entire, universal Catholic Church. It is stated in the Bible that, “Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her, ‘Woman, here is your son,’ and to the disciple, ‘Here is your mother.’ From that time on, this disciple took her into his home” (John 19:25-27). This devotion to the Virgin Mary is special and different than that of any other figurehead in Catholicism, besides the Holy

The Foremass ends with the opening prayer or first oration. The second part of the Mass is made up of readings from the Old Testament or New Testament. This is followed by a chant called the Gradual. The final reading is from one of the four Gospels and is followed by a sermon. The third part of the Mass is called the Offertory.

The term liturgy has its basis in Greek mythology. It can be defined as a form of worship that is that is done according to particular beliefs and practices that are held by a certain group of people. The beliefs and the rituals are usually practiced by the whole group. It may be understood as a ritual that is usually elaborate. Ritual on the other hand refers to a number of activities that are performed in a sequential manner and which more often are prescribed by specific communities. Liturgy plays different functions depending on their nature. To begin with, the catholic liturgy expresses certain religious beliefs towards a Supreme Being and therefore done in a manner that is an expression of worship to the Supreme Being. The term ritual

There was a Roman and Jewish trial. The Roman trial was because Jesus did not pay taxes to Caesar. and for being a “troublemaker” in Luke’s gospel. The Jewish trial was because Jesus called himself the Messiah. Yet with everything Mary stuck by his side. That puts a theory in everyone’s mind that she loved him very much. Mary was an important figure at the cross. Mary was among a few women who wept seeing Jesus suffer and die. In John’s gospel particularly in 19:25 “standing by the cross of Jesus were His mother, and His mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene”(Bible Verses: Mary Magdalene in Scripture). Mark’s gospel says that Mary was in the distance with the other women.
In the mass prayers are said, we pray for the sick in our community and for those sickly in the world. We ask Jesus to heal them, just like he healed people in the gospel. Hymns are sung, readings from the bible are read and communion is taken. Some Christians don’t have Holy Communion services, an example of this are the Salvation Army, they believe that it is possible to live a holy life and receive the grace of God without the use of physical sacraments. To them the inward experience is the most important thing.
Furthermore, one of the main parts of the Mass is the liturgy of the Word, the Word of God that nourishes and help us to live a holy
The Mass has to be important to the Priest because it is the main purpose of his ministry. In the Mass the Priest has to become like Jesus Christ Himself in order for him to give and pass the graces from the Mass to the people. Jesus and His apostles were gathered together, because Jesus knew it was His last meal with them before He died. During the meal He said, “This is My body, which is to be given up for you,” and then He said: “This is My blood of the new testament, which is to be shed for many to remission of sins.” Saying this He is saying what was going to happen the following day. Jesus wanting us to remember this ultimate sacrifice He said “Do this for a commemoration of Me”. The Mass is the best gift in the Priest’s ministry; if the Priest does not put his whole mind, heart, and soul into the Mass; imagine how he is going to be outside in the
A year later, according to a research project, The Notre Dame Study of Catholic Parish Life, many women have assumed parish responsibilities. “…The following percentages of ministerial activities done by women reveal: alter preparation 85 percent, teaching 80 percent, social caring and justice ministries 85 percent, parish council leadership 52 percent (Wessinger, 246).”. Church practice is - to a large extent - women's practice. Without the unpaid cooperation of women, important pastoral activities would stop. A fair number of women choose to give their time and efforts to the church, rather than take paid employment. Many times these women are over looked.
The role of women in religious scripture dictates an inferior position in society. Beginning with the creation of Adam and then Eve, as his helpmate. Her purpose was that Adam would not be lonely. This origin provides the ground work for inequality of genders on the basis of religious scripture. The roles prescribed determined that women should be in a subordinate position to man. The female role and relationship with God is defined by the various books of the Old and New Testaments, the reported actions of Jesus Christ, and finally the Qur'an.

The Importance of a Catholic Regularly Attending Mass Catholics attend mass for many reasons, although there are many. different reasons for going to mass, there is one thing that all people want from mass, and that is some sort of help or advice from. God. I will be with you. Some people may think it is impossible to go to mass and return with advice from God, but people deal with mass in different ways and can take from it what they are willing to give back, not just to the church, but to all of the people they love and care for.
As I was attending mass, I noticed, it was very organized. There was a lot of sitting and standing, where I found myself struggling to understand. I noticed that they read some passages from the bible and sang a lot of psalms and hymns. The only thing that was familiar to me was the Eucharist.
The Mass is celebrated in order for us, his followers, to receive God’s grace within a place of worship. The Mass serves as a form of intimate unification between God and all of his worshippers and disciples that make up the Mystical Body of Christ. This is only possible
