Seed Dispersal by Wind

Introduction: Seeds can move in many different in which some are by water, animals, and wind. The most easiest to conduct would be the wind and that is why we are using wind as the type of dispersal for the seed. In animals, seeds can be dispersed by barbs or other structures that can get tangled in the animal fur and the animals take the seed some other place until the seed gets untangled. Another way the animals can disperse seeds is when the seeds is digested and dropped through the anal after digesting the seed. Some animals bury seeds in the ground. Examples of these animals that do these type of seed dispersing include squirrels, birds, snails, and catfish. Water can disperse seeds by …show more content…

In trials 2,3,4,11,12,13,14, and 15 all supported the hypothesis. The reasoning for the carrier being able to carry the black eyed pea seed at least 85 centimeters was because of the gliders lightweight and the wings of the glider or the aerodynamic of the glider. The formation of the glider easily allowed the air to circle around inside making the glider go farther as the glider went down. Also the weight was never too much on one side of the glider instead the weight was always balanced making the glider more easier to fly down. Some inferences about the Seed Dispersal Lab by Wind experiment that can be made is that in nature the seeds sometimes bounce off wherever they land to get farther or sometime the seed lands next to the offsprings parents if the wind isn’t strong enough. Another inference that could be made is that out of all the other wind dispersal typed a glider is not the best way all the time, this is because if there is not enough wind the glider cannot go anywhere as in a helicopter or spinner they can travel more farther than a glider because they have wings that can take the seed longer distances. Some sources or errors include, that the teams glider sometimes kept on hitting the wall of where we were standing which lead to interfering with the groups data as the data would not be constant because the glider did not always hit the wall. Another source of error is that the glider kept on hitting people as the glider came down and that source of error interfered with the team's data as well. A crucial source of error is that the glider got a small cut around the 10th trial which made the glider lose balance as the air went in more on one side than the other side. Some questions that could be asked from this experiment is “What happens
