The touchy debate has been one that has been battled for countless years, and it will continue to be a hot topic for the years to come. Should we or should we not ban smoking? In the end its always a matter of logic whether to ban smoking or not. Advertisements on television are always showing that smoking is a way to unwind and to be chill, although the television never shows the harmful effects of smoking. Studies by Yale University have indicated that there are around 7,000 chemicals in one cigarette, and that 69 out the 7,000 chemicals are known to cause some type of cancer.
As many of us know smoking is bad for everyone’s health, but what some people might not know is that you don’t actually have to smoke to be affected by toxic chemicals.

The possibility of health problems increases exponentially as you start inhaling carbon monoxide. Pretty much 67% of the adult population smokes or has smoked. We all know family members, co workers, or friends that smoke and sometimes might not even have the decency to ask if they can smoke around us. Scientific research by the Mayo Clinic has shown that smoking is extremely addictive, and the main cause for it is nicotine. Nicotine is a highly addictive tobacco plant. One might ask why nicotine is highly addictive? Nicotine is highly addictive because it acts as a acetylcholine (acetylcholine is a compound found in the brain which help maintain normal vitals throughout the body) nicotine has similar properties as acetylcholine, once taking nicotine replace acetylcholine, and then the neurotransmitters in the brain become accustomed to this new compound, the brain then strives on nicotine to maintain proper brain function. This habit of smoking is known to start at the early teen years and continue through adult hood. Ways to detect smokers is that usually they will have a change in personality, mood swings, or behavior problems. Research by the MDMA shows that people who usually smoke have some physical, or mental issue that is going on their daily life which causes them to start smoking.
Carbon monoxide is a major component in smoke from fires. It can cause a loss of mental acuity, acute nausea and severe headaches (Reinhardt 33). Death can occur at extreme levels of this intoxication and it can even cause shortness of breath and dizziness (Reinhardt 35). It may not seem like it is that bad, but one must consider that these things add up and can really affect their health and well-being. The carbon monoxide levels tend to shoot up when the wind speed goes up during daily exposure (U.S. Department of Agriculture 3). It also depends on what kind of duties you have as a firefighter; because those with the highest level of carbon monoxide in their system were a part of the direct attack and those with the least were the fire starters (U.S. Department of Agriculture 3). Carbon monoxide is a powerful poison that can kill you and it is absolut...
Cigarette addiction is responsible for over four million deaths every year. The question most people ask is why don’t people just put down their cigarettes? Well, the answer to that often asked question is nicotine. Nicotine is a neurotransmitter that targets certain receptors in the brain. It is a chemical messenger that induces feelings of pleasure. When someone takes a hit off of a cigarette, they ingest the harmful chemicals that can cause cancer and other serious health threats. They only inhale these chemicals to get one thing and one thing only, nicotine.
Smoking can cause many lung and heart diseases as well as many forms of cancer.
Some actions should be taken on tobacco products because the risk of getting cancer is high. People vape everywhere in today’s society, blowing a massive amount of smoke that lingers in the air and could cause people nearby to cough or even children near it to cough. There needs to be a policy to ban cigarettes, it kills the smoker, in addition, it could kill the person exposed to the smoke from cigarettes. “The cigarette is also a defective product, meaning not just dangerous but unreasonably dangerous, killing half its long-term users” (Proctor). Cigarettes are not healthy in any way making it a defective product, it mainly kills the smoker rather than helping them.
One of the biggest and well known diseases is lung cancer, 90% of people with lung cancer smoke cigarettes and almost half of those people have passed away. Smoking can also cause heart disease which is a very dangerous and is not curable. This causes less oxygen and less blood flow to the heart this is the number one cause of death in the United States. You can also get strokes from smoking, a stroke happens when the brain is getting blocked of blood and your brain cells start to die. A stroke can cause paralysis, slurred speech, altered brain function and death. Stroke is the fourth leading cause of death in the United States and a leading cause of adult disability. Lastly smoking can cause asthma which is a disease which makes it harder for air to get in and out of your lungs. The cigarette smokes disrupt the flow of oxygen in your lungs and causes asthma attacks, 25 million Americans suffer from asthma and smoking only makes it
One of the largest and most problematic health issues in our society is smoking. Smoking is currently the leading cause of death in our country, due to its harmful and addictive contents, such as nicotine and tobacco. Although millions die from it each year, smoking is the single most preventable cause of death. Without smoking, a tremendous amount of money and lives will be saved. I think that our country should ban smoking and the production of cigarettes in order to maintain a healthier nation, help save the environment, and prevent the almost 1000 deaths that they cause in fires each year.
When people are stressed, wouldn’t they suffer more if they smoke? Cigarettes hold many diseases and illness to a person's body, it’s so serious that it also affects other people around you, therefore people who smoke should stop in order to live a happy and healthy life. One reason why people shouldn’t smoke cigarettes is that it causes disease and illness to people who smoke. Smoking can affect people's cardiovascular system. Which means that it targets the heart, lungs, and other parts of your body.
All tobacco products have a warning label on the package, and yet people continue to use it. I’ve heard of different reasons from different people. None of them make sense to me. The only borderline logical reason to me is growing up with that in your household. You don’t stand a chance after you get use to the chemicals. The smoke reels you in like a fish on a hook and you become a slave to the smell. Even if that is the case, I still believe you have a choice. A majority people start due to people in their family, but I’ve heard of less intelligent reasons. Two people told me they started just because the turned eighteen and they realized they were of legal age. I’ve been informed of someone finding cigarettes and deciding to try them. Another person told me they started because they wanted to prove they could smoke cigarettes and do “cool” smoke tricks. I’ve also heard a few people say they started due to peer pressure. A lot of people tend to use stress as an excuse, but a tobacco won’t solve your problems. An interesting reason I’ve recently discovered is social awkwardness. One person told me they would use smoking as an excuse to evade uncomfortable situations. Whatever the reason may be, an abundance of people have a difficult time quitting. One person close to me has described smoking as “muscle memory” and you also associate smoking with
One of the biggest problems that people are faced with on a day-to-day basis is cigarette smoke. The sole cause for 480,000 deaths each year just in the United States is accredit to cigarettes(CDC). For a lot of the smokers the habit of smoking happens to assist them when under stress and dealing with issues that are unmanageable. Some smoke to appeal to their peers or simply because it “feels good.” Smoking one cigarette can lead to a major addiction. The effects of smoking hurt oneself and those amongst us. Smoking Kills as the ad portrays this revolver and cigarettes as the bullets, and also lists the side effects of smoking. Slow Death This ad is targeted towards cigarette smokers as whole. The visual text is a bullet with the word quick and a cigarette with the word slow underneath the images. The message this ad is trying to get across is cigarettes are just as deadly as bullets. The only difference is cigarettes kill at a very delayed rate. Smoking is the reason for several diseases like cancer, respiratory, and heart diseases, as well as premature death.

Smoking cigarettes is a very deadly addiction that, unfortunately, 42.1 million adults in the United States and 6.4 million children have. The reason why so many people get addicted to cigarettes because of nicotine. Medicinenet.com says that nicotine is “Made by the tobacco plant or produced synthetically. Nicotine has powerful pharmacologic effects (including increased heart rate, heart stroke volume, and oxygen consumption by the heart muscle), as well as powerful psychodynamic effects (such as euphoria, increased alertness, and a sense of relaxation). Nicotine is also powerfully addictive.”
Scientists and health officials have been arguing the detrimental effects smoking has on our health for many years. Smoking can lead to serious complications including asthma, pancreas, lung and stomach cancer due to the large number of carcinogens (cancer causing chemicals) and other various substances added to it. It is a health hazard for both smokers and non-smokers and it is especially harmful to unborn babies. Although smokers claim that it helps them to relax and release stress, the negative aspects of the habit take over the positive. As it has been stressed by the scientists and experts, there are some very severe reasons of smoking but its crucial consequences should also be taken into consideration.
It’s not that easy to quit smoking cigarettes, it can be very hard especially for many people who have been smoking for years. Many people are addicted to this drug because of the nicotine that’s in the tobacco, which is very addictive. Nicotine is the most common word that most smokers use and is there excuse why they can’t stop saying “it’s so addicting”. Like heroin or other addictive drugs, the body and mind quickly become so used to the nicotine in cigarettes that a person needs to have it just to feel normal (Smoking). Nicotine is the main addictive ingredient in a cigarette that activates synthesis of a chemical called dopamine in the brain (Naturstopp). This is just one of the chemicals that are in a cigarette, there are over 599 more chemicals that are in a cigarette. To name a few there is acetone, ammonia, tar, benzene, cadmium, hydrogen cyanide, carbon monoxide, and nitrogen oxides etc (Naturstopp). Some of these chemicals might not seem harmful, but it’s the burning of these chemicals that produce toxic and carcinogenic compounds more than 4000 of them (Naturstopp). Smoking cigarettes can be devastating; especially with each inhale you exhale.
There are many side effects that come along with smoking cigarettes. Cigarettes have nicotine, tar and carbon monoxide, which the nicotine is the addictive drug that keeps one coming back for more. This is one of the many side effects that scratches the surface of the many health problems to come. Some other side effect includes, but not limited to, carbon monoxide binding to the red blood cells, which competes with the oxygen in the blood stream making it harder to carry oxygen to the vital organs in one’s body. With that being stated, there are the long term effects. After years of smoking, inhaling carbon monoxide, organs such as the heart, lungs, and muscles began to break down due to all the poisonous toxins. There are many health issues that a long term smoker must deal with. The health issues are serious and could be life threatening. Smoking cigarettes can lead to several different types of cancers in
