School Uniforms Should Not Exist
Private schools have required school uniforms for many years now. In today’s public school system, many of them have switched to or considered school uniforms due to troubles happening in the school system. Public schools should not require or change to school uniforms because it goes against self-expression, it does not reduce bullying, and students hate them.
Expression
First, having school uniforms goes against the students’ freedom of expression. Our First Amendment of the US Constitution says that all individuals have the right to express themselves freely. Teenagers choosing his or her outfit promotes expression of a maturing individual. A school system should want to teach children how to come into their own and be the person they intend to be, and teaching them how to be themselves. Also, wearing clothing is a good way to spread cause of social issues and raise awareness. For example, if a school had uniform regulations students would not be able to wear colors or shirts that support causes like wearing pink in October for breast cancer awareness. Actually, school uniforms have caused violence in school to go up. “In a 2007 peer-reviewed study found that school uniforms increased the average number of assaults by about 14 (per year) in the most violent schools.” (NEED IN TEXT CIATIONS)Bullying is common in most schools; so, a kid will find something to bully a kid about and no uniform will change that. Many private school educators believe school uniforms caused violence in school to go down. Which is because uniforms causes less teasing over how expensive or cheap clothing the kids wear, but kids will be teased for other things even though they dress alike.
