I believe that teachers should be graded by their students. I think that this is a good idea because teachers are graded, yes that is true, but they aren't graded by the ones who are being taught, and the ones that know how the teacher teaches and what the teacher teaches. A lot of the people who don’t like this idea are the teachers themselves, but the only reason that they deny it should happen is because they are afraid. Yes afraid of what they will be judged on. Afraid that the student that they gave the most detentions too will expel them from their job. Afraid that the things that they graded harshly will grade them harshly. Like I said we don’t live in a perfect world so not everyone will like you, but there will always be people who will help you grow and learn as a teacher. I leave you with a simple question are you the teacher that doesn’t care about your students, and could care less if they got D’s in every class, or are you the teacher who understands what I am saying and agrees, because you know that you care for your student, and you know that you students like you for the way you teach, the way you act, and what you teach? Grading System Reform Teachers have always used grades to measure the amount a student has learned. This practice is becoming ineffective. Many students have a wide range of grades, which shows that grades may not show what a student really knows. Therefore, the standard grading system should be replaced. Some reasons why grades should be replaced are bad grades can hinder a child’s performance, grades define who a student is in the classroom, and grades are not an effective way to see if students have learned the material.

As a student you are evaluated everyday, but have you ever desired to be the one doing the grading? This is a thought provoking idea. Teachers grade students on almost everything these days; including participation and behavior. So wouldn’t it be nice to return the favor? Although it may sound like a great idea, it could also be a very bad one. If students were able to grade their teachers it could provide proper and thorough evaluation; help teachers to improve on what they may be lacking, and help parents understand what is going on in the classroom; but at the same time it could prove to be harmful to the student and a good teacher’s career if not implemented correctly. This is why it’s important to recognize the possible positive impacts, the negative impacts, and the current programs that are in place, and their impacts.
In my prerequisite observation hours I observed an outstanding teacher, who I learned a lot from about having respect between the teacher and students. Principals have a lot on their job descriptions. One of those tasks principals must do is evaluate teachers. Some principals are good at doing this, while others are not so great because they lack the experience or put it off towards the end of their ever-growing list of tasks they must complete. In order for principals to make this a priority, they must do trainings related to teacher evaluations. I think school district need to do a better job at training school leaders get the proper training and use teacher evaluations to benefit both the teachers and students.
I have had many excellent teachers throughout my educational experience, some of these have been wonderful teachers that have set lessons to life. Others have been boring, overly strict, unapproachable, and at times unknowledgeable. I have learned valuable lessons from both. A positive and fun learning environment makes students want to be in the classroom. The first step in learning is that the children must want to be there.

Test as a grading system in universities should be continued because, although the opposing view brings to light many valid points, discontinuing the current grading system would cause more problem than it would solve.
Teachers are often blamed if a student does not pass a class especially in elementary school. Why is it their fault though? If they have a good lesson plan and are trying to help their students then why is it their fault if a student does not pass the grade? This would be different if the teacher was not trying to help the students and did not give good instruction, but if they did then they should not be at fault. If the student is misbehaving and not paying attention then that student may need more help or have detention to try and make up for the missed work. Also, if the student chooses not to do assignments outside of the classroom that is not the fault of the teacher.

Each relationship is different and each teacher has his or her own way with students. I have seen from a distance that for the most part students have great respect for teachers and therefore get respect in return. A couple of teachers expect respect, and since it is not earned, students do not always give it. I live by the thoughts that I have to earn the respect of the student body and model behaviors for them. The relationship I build with them is up to me, but in order for great things to happen, I need to foster individual relationships and show that I care.
