Leadership of Nikola Tesla If you’ve seen the Wizard of Oz, you’ve heard the words “Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.” Today we’ll be doing just that while exploring the leadership of Nikola Tesla in relation to his vision and ethics. Tesla was a Visionary Leader who successfully implemented change actualizing the means to brighten the face of the world. His vision was shared through his use of the Inspirational Motivation behavior of Transformational Leadership and his successful application of change management. This is evident and observable today in that the entire world now runs on alternating current electricity, his signature discovery. Although visionary, Tesla achieved his successes through a series of questionable …show more content…
Lee De Forest, a student of Nikola Tesla’s wrote that “[Tesla’s writings are] the greatest exciters to zealous work and study…[and] his New York Laboratory [is] a fabulous domain into which all ambitious young electrical students aspire…to enter and there remain” (Seifer, 1998, p. 182). In this, De Forest describes how Tesla’s work provided Inspirational Motivation (IM). His writings and lab provided “a clear and compelling view of the future…[and] an exciting image of what is important to followers” (Thomas N. Barnes Center for Enlisted Education [BCEE] 2017d, p. 12). In providing IM to his supporters, Tesla demonstrated a visionary ADBs by sparking enthusiasm and creativity causing others to dream. However, his reach was limited to his supporters and he needed to inspire & motivate those beyond this scope to facilitate a world-wide change. Surely, this was a task fit for a …show more content…
His imagination allowed him identify a path to influence his change. Rogers’ Diffusion of Innovations Theory states “change becomes embedded after 5% accept it” (BCEE, 2017c, pp. 20-21). For Tesla to influence them, Seifer (1998) describes how Tesla met with the Editor of a publication called the Electrical World and published an article about his Alternating Current discovery. This was a step towards reaching his Early Adopters, who were likely to be fellow scientists and scholars. However, he needed to expand his scope to include the general population if he was to be successful in affecting change
General consensus is that Erik posses two of the four factors to be a transformational leader, he had the inspiration and intellectual stimulation, “he is lacking charisma and individualized consideration” (Goodman, 1). With great guidance...
Leaders who treat their employees with fairness, honesty, and provide frequent, accurate information are seen as more effective. According to Robbins and Judge (2014), “trust is a primary attribute associated with leadership and followers who trust a leader are confident their rights and interest will not be abused” (p.193). The old General Motor Corporation had eleven different CEO’s from 1923 until 2009 each with their own unique leadership style, which directed employees toward the organization goals. Unfortunately, many of the top level managers under the CEO’s had the tendency of filtering out information that did not match up with their pre-conceived notions about a particular issue and they lacked upward communication. One consumer goal of General Motors was to build trust in the company so people would be repeat customers, but building trust between employees and establishing an ethical culture was not a top priority of the organization. Goal directed leadership alone is important, but differs from a structure of leadership based on ethics. It is important to note, that effective leadership may not be the same as leadership founded on ethical principles. Business competence must exist, along with personal leadership accountability in ethical decisions. Within the General Motors organization, ethics and leadership did not interconnect; there were misalignment between the
“Money does not represent such a value as men have placed upon it. All my money has been invested into experiments with which I have made new discoveries enabling mankind to have a little easier life.” (Politika, 1927) During his 86 years Nikola Tesla obtained around 300 patents worldwide for his inventions, while many inventions developed by Tesla were not patent protected. Tesla’s inventions ranged from alternating current motors to a World Wireless System which is a proposed telecommunications and electrical power delivery system and Teleforce which is a self-defense weapon system that used pellets or slugs that were accelerated to a high velocity in a vacuum chamber then fired out of nozzles that would aim at the target. The major encounters that Tesla and Faraday faced included social, economic, intellectual barriers. Considering socially, Faraday was considered to be a “...high-priest of Nature, revealing the hidden forces...”(Shortland) People saw Faraday as the highest of his field, the one who was the closest to God in relation to understanding his creation. This also shows the social standard at this point in time, many going to church and understanding when someone references a religious point. Also, for social encounters, we have Tesla with his description f what the future will be like. This was not a reaction to the society that Tesla was around, but a prediction of what they were to become. Tesla, hoping to see that people would grow to become stronger
As James Levine is famous for saying, “I was lucky that I met the right mentors and teachers at the right moment.” To me, one of the greatest mentors of innovative scientific history was Nikola Tesla. That being said, if given the opportunity to spend the next year of my life in a different time period I would like to live during the year 1942 so I could work beside Tesla. This was the year before Tesla died, a time when he had experienced the full scope of his expertise and could impart that wisdom to me. My questions about his popularity would be answered in full. Questions about Tesla’s integrity could lead to the answer to the legendary disputes about what was rightfully his. Legends about genius inventions that could only be imagined
Livesey devises the crafty plan of stalling the pirates by sending Ben Gunn to give the imitations of their dead leader, Captain Flint. He also comes up with the plan of sending the pirates on the chase to find the treasure. Livesey is not afraid of some action and bravely fires at the pirates at the site where the treasure is burried. He is willing to do the honorable thing, like providing medical attention to the wounded pirates, who are his enemies. He speaks tenderly to them and seems genuinely to care for their health. More than Captain Smollett or the naïve Squire Trelawney, Livesey represents the best of the civilized world of men. Despite his great achievements in the journey, however, Dr. Livesey is not very charismatic toward anyone. He does what is reasonable, practical, and ethical, in thought, but never acts spontaneously, as the pirates and Jim do constantly. Livesey thinks up the ingenious plans for the group, but only puts them into action if they are safe and foolproof. He gives the pirates the treasure map only when he knows it is useless to them. On the whole journey, Livesey never risks anything major, and therefore Jim sees him as a good and respectable
All my money has been invested into experiments with which I have made new discoveries enabling mankind to have a little easier life,” Tesla (1927). This philosophy of Tesla hold true on both accounts, Tesla did make life easier for mankind and he did invest all his money attempting to accomplish that task. “Despite his accomplishments, however, Tesla died penniless and without the accolades that would he would ultimately earn over a century later,” according to Whipps (2014). Aside from the above quote which reminds us of how determined Tesla was, we have various technologies that current culture utilizes on an everyday basis which solidifies his importance on society. For example, Tesla is responsible solely for or developing the technology or methods which enable, alternating current, light, x-rays, radios, remote controls, electric motors, robotics, lasers, wireless communications and potential limitless free energy. An argument could be made that Tesla has had such a profound influence on our society that the inevitable switch to battery operated, fully automatized motor vehicles is led by a company which utilizes the brand name of
In civilization, leadership could be a tool to maneuver society from one steady state to another; it is essentially regarding modification. Leaders play a crucial role, not solely as creative thinker and models of reliability in their discrete capability, but also institutionally, in describing, motivating and seeing through transformation. Vision, efficiency and uprightness are at the core of effective leadership. These approaches of leadership are crucial for little and huge scale modification and toward achi...

The topic of this essay is the Tesla Coil. The Tesla Coil was created by a guy named Nikola Tesla. Nikola made it in the year of 1891. Almost a l00 years ago. Nikola Tesla Died in 1993 on January 7th. Besides Nikola Tesla let's talk about what it can do. A tesla coil can light up light bulbs. A large Tesla Coil can light a fluorescent light bulb for up to 50 feet away. I thought that that was pretty cool. Even florescent light bulbs that have been burnt out can still light up from the Tesla Coil. For example a Tesla Coil can produce electrical arcs. The electrical arcs can create volts well above 1,000,000. Nikola Tesla himself has set the highest record of electrical arcs of 100,000,000 volts.Tesla Memorial Society said “Tesla himself got
Leadership can be traced back to many ideologies over the history of time. There have been individuals that have achieved great success and accomplishments through inspiring others to believe and follow their leadership. This paper will explain some of the theories that philosophically explain how those great people inspired others to believe in their vision and goals.
His experimenting led him to creating the Tesla coil which didn’t have an iron coil transformer allowing the secondary coil to be free. Since the secondary coil wasn’t being held back it was able to vibrate to higher and higher frequencies. Which allowed it to create large amounts of electricity. By it creating this much power it has the ability to shoot lightning bolts and make electronic fields.
Edison’s vision of invention as a process shaped much of his business approach. For Edison it was never enough to simply develop and perfect a concept or idea; he constantly drove him...
... something to do with some kind of super technology. He is often cited in works of speculative fiction as an originator of strange theories and fantastical devices. Conspiracy theorists also bring his Unified Field Theory into their writings, stating that the work was taken by the secret cabals that control everything. As some of Tesla's work vanished after his death into the hands of the FBI, the truth or falsity of this idea cannot be determined.
