Hiroshima
August 1945; The United of States of America decided to unexpectedly drop atomic bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. As a result of the atomic bombings it killed 90,000–146,000 people in Hiroshima and 39,000–80,000 in Nagasaki. Some Americans reacted with sympathy while others stood against America’s choice to land the bombs in Japan. One famous book that goes by the title of, “Hiroshima.” goes on to give vivid descriptions of the day of the bombing following up years later of characters. “Hiroshima” by John Hersey was praised by many as being an instant classic that used a calm narrative and vivid characterizations. While others critiqued the book going on to say that the book would cause Americans to feel compassionate towards the Japanese. “Was it really necessary for the United States to have dropped atomic bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki surprisingly?” It wasn’t necessary for the United States of America to have dropped atomic bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki because it totally decimated Japan. The atomic bombs that were dropped on Japan were completely uncalled for and were an excessive show of force which could have been easily avoided through diplomatic means. The bomb sites of Japan had lasting effects of nuclear blast, thousands of children without families, and severely injured people who died from injuries. For example, in the book “Hiroshima”, Father Kleinsorge a character who was a survivor from the atomic bombing, never recovers from radiation sickness and died in a result. Harmless, innocent civilians were brutally murdered, the subsequent radiation made the cities unlivable for the longest time, and the environment was harmed
