Genetic engineering is the modification of an organism’s genes, to achieve a desired product. It is a likely possibility that in the future, this process will be used on humans. Many people think that genetic engineering is a good idea, but they are wrong because it can lead to even stronger mutations and will erase individuality. Multiple people think that there are many advantages to genetic engineering. First of all, it can help to prevent and eliminate genetic disorders (Hanson). Some diseases are inherited from the parents, and do not have a cure yet. Through the help of genetic engineering, the chance of these diseases being passed on could be eliminated, and the disorder would be taken care of for good. After a while diversity would fade, because all individuals would be very similar. For example, if being tall was desired, then no one would be short, and everyone would be tall. “The reduction of undesirable traits among humans would lead to a generation of “pure breeds” with very little capability of adapting to change,” is mentioned in the “Genetic Engineering Pros and Cons List.” Similar to how many purebred animals are apt to disease, these purebred humans wouldn’t be about to adapt if necessary.
