John Knoll once stated that; “Any tool can be used for good or bad. It's really the ethics of the artist using it.” This quote can be much related overall to the idea of ethics, when presented with something of use in a situation, a person can either make a good ethical decision or bad ethical decision. The ethical decision making process is frequently involved with most situations in life.However every person weighs their own ethical decisions in a different way. Imagine for a moment that everyone put away their own, values and morals on the matter of ethics. The world probably would be completely changed, and things would probably be affected mainly good, but things would also possibly be affected bad as well. Santa Clara University states that, “Ethics is two things. First, ethics refers to well-founded standards of right and wrong that prescribe what humans ought to do, usually in terms of rights, obligations, benefits to society, fairness, or specific virtues.The idea of ethics controls how a person acts and lives their in life,on a daily basis. Secondly, ethics refers to the study and development of one's ethical standards.”“According to A Sequence For Academic Writing”;Ethics is not; the same as feelings, religion,following the law, following cultural norms, or an idea involving science.(Behrens and Rosen 292)Whether a person behaves in a certain manner thinking that something is wrong or right depends on their ethics. Each person has their own ethical values, or their own ethical code in which they follow, in their life, as their own interpretation. No matter what a person’s definition of ethics is they, will always be put in some situation that ethical decision making will take place in. A possible scenario where ethics might be tested is with the idea of cheating. Imagine a student, is in the process of getting ready to take a test. The teacher has just finished the review for what will be on the test, and class is dismissed. They must then find facts, that are present and relevant to the situation. Alternative actions should be presented, and thought about, involving the situation. A decision is then made and tested. The situation is lastly acted on, and the outcome of it is reflected on by that person. An possible example using this process could involve those, in the example involving cheating. The student, should first think who would be affected or harmed in the situation, in this case it would be the student, and the teacher. The student should think of the action in a whole with facts, in the past haven’t most people people usually had some type of bad outcome with cheating,the fact being that cheating has a lot of bad outcomes for everyone. The student should then think about an alternative situation. Such as asking the teacher for help, and studying for the test actually themselves. Wouldn’t this, instead prevent any bad outcome with cheating, and wouldn’t they instead gain knowledge from the experience of studying, that would benefit them in the long run?
