Why is coal the best energy source? I’m providing three reasons to back this statement; The large abundance of coal supply and the low cost, the wide industrial base, and the industrial uses of coal. There are various other reasons, but these three are the keys to my argument. Coal has been a big part of our energy supply for years. 40% of electricity in the U.S. is generated by coal.
. The U.S. alone produces 1 billion tons of coal annually, which is about 12% of the world’s supply and we’re second to China. The presence of coal in every continent and over seventy nations around the world has enabled the supply that’s almost eternal in nature. Some of the highest reserves are in China, The U.S., Russia, and India. The generation of coal can
Roughly 68 percent of the electricity generated in the United States of America is produced by fossil fuels. That includes petroleum, natural gases and coal. Although coal contributes around 37 percent to the factor, it is by far not the cleanest of them all. Some might argue that it is good for the economy because it is cheap and it creates jobs.. But the other side of the story portrays coal mining as a process that kills thousands of coal miners a year and that it practically destroys the environment around the mining with soot and air pollution. Mining now days is a big part of urbanization; due to how cheap the process is. There are different ways that coal mining is done. Mainly mountain top removal is done but there are many other
Coal was the cutting edge of energy generation before any other source was extensively used. Wood, wind, water, and muscle power provided nearly all of the energy before the widespread adoption of coal. The greater energy density of coal provides a greater efficiency than these other methods of generating power; combine that greater efficiency with its ease of transportation and coal easily becomes the fuel of a nation. In its early days, coal was mined and consumed in England, a country short on wood and usable water power. This shortage in other areas left a gap that the relatively cheap coal could fill. Coal allowed for industry and manufacturing to grow and produce profits greater than almost any other industry. Coal gained its popularity mainly because it had an economic value in that it provided energy in quantities and in locations that were unobtainable and unreachable for the other energy sources at the time. This start in England led to momentum in ta...
Coal Has provided my home, my famines home, my friends home, and many other homes in the state with heat. There is a large chain of events that help West Virginia. The coal mines is started near a river or t creates a river, then people move to the area creating a stable job for people in the area. The coal is mined and transported to homes around the state. This heats homes and creates families for future coal miners. This will keep the coal industry booming for many years to come
Ulises Mendez ENL 3, SQ 2014 CRA 2 Tim Kreiner. Analysis of “Coal” by Audre Lorde. Audre Lorde’s poem has a very unique and intriguing name: “Coal”. Coal is the most widely used fossil fuel for energy production. Similarly, it is made up of the same thing as diamonds (which are a prominent metaphor throughout the poem) yet the two are strikingly physically different.
The natural resource that I am writing this paper on is coal. Coal is a cheap, dirty fossil fuel which we burn to create power. Coal is the most abundant in North America and in Russia, including the area around it. China also has a fairly good amount of coal in it too. Coal, like all of the other fossil fuels is nonrenewable and will eventually run out, in the not so near future. Coal is very important to many of the countries of the world. The countries that use the most coal are China, the United States, India, Russia, and Japan. These five countries “account for 76% of total global coal use.” (World Coal Association, 2014).
I’ve long been familiar with the concept of coal mines, but a common occurrence I was unfamiliar with previous to this class was the concept of coal mine fires, but it is a huge problem, both economically and environmentally.
Burning and mining coal for fuel is harmful to the environment but because how cheap and easy it is to find many people are unwilling to give it up as a fuel source. One of the problems with coal is that they are limited and are non-renewable so once it has been used we won’t be able to use it again.
Fossil fuels are an important part of life. When you turn on the lights, watch TV, or take a shower, the electricity that you are using is being generated by fossil fuels. The three types of fossil fuels are coal, crude oil, and natural gas. They all take millions of years to form, so they are considered to be “non-renewable”- eventually, the fossil fuels will all be used up. One dangerous biological effect of using fossil fuels is ocean acidification. Extracting and transporting fossil fuels can also be very dangerous. Environmentally damaging accidents such as groundwater contamination, land subsidence, and oil spills occur frequently. Global warming is another possible environmental effect. Fossil fuels have a crucial role in modern society, but since they are non-renewable and dangerous, we should reduce our dependence on them and explore alternative energy sources. Wind energy, hydroelectricity, and solar energy are some examples of renewable fuel sources. There are also many things that people can do everyday to save energy (and, in turn, conserve fossil fuels).
Communities where coal mining exists tend to have great advantages, but there are always disadvantages with those benefits. Coal mining is a great energy source suppling about 30% of the entire energy needs over the world, producing 40% of electricity. Where there is coal, there are jobs, roughly 130,000 people are employed in the coal industry. As the demand for coal continues to rise, employment will also increase, raising employment rates. Coal mining is practiced because it is an inexpensive source of energy. The process of coal extraction is not difficult, whether it takes place on the surface or underground, miners are not required to go deep into the earth every time. Unlike oil, when transporting coal, it is easier and cheaper. The coal does not go through high pressure pipelines which includes expensive maintenance.
“If nothing changes about the rate of coal consumption there is enough to last over a thousand years. However, if the rate of consumption rises even 5%, there is less than hundred years supply” (Tjblackwell 1). When creating energy from coal, it gives off a thick dark cloud which is highly pollutant and releases a large amount of carbon monoxide for every pound that is burned. Coal was first used back into the late 1700 when the first steamboat was built, whereas coal is now used to power whole cities. There are always improvements in technology like the one just listed which is where energy alternatives are headed in the near future. Coal is a very effective way to power machinery, but that same machinery that can also be powered by solar energy, hydrogen, or biofuel. All of these alternatives allow machinery to function without creating any pollution. In contrast, coal has turned rivers orange from the acid and coal mines are the cause of thousands of deaths every year because of how pollutant it is to a human 's body. One can concluded that even though this has been an effective way to produce energy, this old method should be removed from our current practice should be removed from our current practice. The problem Americans face is there is no possible way they can get people to stop using coal. However, if one thinks about it, education and awareness can help to end some of our excessive use
We do not have to import this product into this country. Coal is the world's most abundant fossil fuel more plentiful than oil and natural gas. Coal is American made we do not have to import this product into this country. Coal is nothing more than ancient wood which has been under pressure for millions of years.
Intro Coal is an essential resource in our everyday lives. It is used to generate electricity, in the making of steel, and as an ingredient in cement, fertilizer and cosmetics. But, coal is the dirtiest of all fossil fuels. When burned, it produces emissions that contribute to global warming, create acid rain and pollute water. Considering we may have less than 40 years until the end of coal, releasing over 790 billion tonnes of carbon into the atmosphere should not be an option.
For years man has relied on energy in order to be successful in life. The industrial revolution relied on coal for the new inventions brought into the world. Life as has never been the same since then. However since that time, there has been little done to improve on energy efficiency and humans still primarily rely on fossil fuels for energy. For over a hundred years the Earth has become more polluted and dirtier than ever before. Now, with new, innovative technology there is an opportunity to change that and to rely on renewable, cleaner sources of energy. The main source of energy for the world should be alternative energy instead of energy from fossil fuels.
For a very long time coal has been used as important source for the energy production, such as the production of electricity and heat.It is also used on the industrial scale for the refining of metals.
Using fossil fuels such as coal and oil is inefficient, dangerous, and otherwise a process that is known to eventually fail as a long lasting energy source. Yet, there is hope for the future of energy, this new hope has many shapes and forms, but requires a chance to be fully implemented in our everyday life. Such energy sources like solar energy, wind energy, geothermal energy, and hydro power are the key to our future. These energy sources are proven to be long lasting, safe, more reliable, and the next innovation. In short, all Americans should switch to renewable energy, resulting in a safer and more efficient world.
