It is something that had nearly plagued parts of the world. Slavery had a negative impact on indigenous people and Africans earlier. Most of them were captured because of their racial origins. They were forced to work in terrible work conditions, and were paid less than a dollar. Child labour was one of the many horrible things children went through, because it was it put them at risk. Although slavery had been abolished by the Emancipation Act 1834, it still continues in many countries. Society has not responded enough to slavery because child labour is used to fulfill consumers with products by some companies today. For example, Joe fresh’s clothing is manufactured by poor paid workers at Bangladesh factories.Another example is Hershey, in West Africa , there are child labourers who harvest cocoa to produce these chocolates. Companies should not being using slavery as a method to increase their riches for less.Furthermore,it is not fair to pay less or none to innocent people for the wealth of companies. Another way to reconcile slavery is to provide these children with their basic
Sadly, the children had no choice but to work for very little pay. Their mothers and fathers made so little money in the factory system that they couldn’t afford to let their children enjoy their childhood: “Other working children were indentured—their parents sold their labor to the mill owner for a period of years. Others lived with their families and worked for wages as adults did, for long hours and under hard conditions” (Cleland). The child had no other choice, but to work for these big businesses.
According to Reid, “… child sex trafficking would comprise all activities involved in inducting a minor’s involvement in commercial sexual exploitation, from the initial recruitment of the minor into commercial sex exploitation to buying the sexual services of the minor” (3).
How can we identify human trafficking and why do they call it modern day slavery? The way we can identify human trafficking, are to look for signs of physical abuse and limited access to medical care (Kelly and Bokhari, 2012), and (Zimmerman et al, 2003). Either the victims of trafficking are lured in with promises for a better life, or better working conditions to where they have an idea of thinking they will be able to send money back home to their families. Due to thier circumstances, many of the victims are kept isolated to where they have limited access to medical or dental care. Often due to these times children may not resemble those who are supposed to be, their parents or, they are with different adults at different times.
Throughout time children have worked myriad hours in hazardous workplaces in order to make a few cents to a few dollars. This is known as child labor, where children are risking their lives daily for money. Today child labor continues to exist all over the world and even in the United States where children pick fruits and vegetables in difficult conditions. According to the article, “What is Child Labor”; it states that roughly 215 million children around the world are working between the ages of 5 and 17 in harmful workplaces. Child labor continues to exist because many families live in poverty and with more working hands there is an increase in income. Other families take their children to work in the fields because they have no access to childcare and extra money is beneficial to buy basic needs. Although there are laws and regulations that protect children from child labor, stronger enforcement is required because child labor not only exploits children but also has detrimental effects on a child’s health, education, and the people of the nation.
How would you feel spending your childhood in a factory making clothes for other kids and only making around .50 cents per hour? If you are thinking terrible than think about this, kids around the world are making the clothes you wear from your favorite hat to the shoes you love. May not look like but it happens, does. So life isn’t always a gift for kids, some have to quit school to work in a factory and some get to play with toys and go to schools.
Want to know how many deaths does Child labor cause throughout the whole year? Because of child labor, there are over 2.7 million deaths every year! Child labor is a definite human rights violation which is included in both factories and farms. There they are overworked, underfed, and have no medical attention. The use of children for child labor is gross to even think about and is a major human rights issue. First of all, child labor should not just be used for their size to work in factories. Secondly, they should not be the victims to the harmful pesticides and chemicals sprayed over the field to help the crops.

Majority of human trafficking are worldwide which involves the transportation of victims from Africa, South and Eastern Asia, Central and South America, Russia and other developing countries to developed countries in Asia, the Middle East, North America and central and southeastern countries of the European continent. The Asia-Pacific region contributes 56% or 11.7 million victims, while Africa accounts 18% or 3.7 million victims of human trafficking. The meltdown of the global economy in the recent times has given rise to an increase in contemporary slavery. About 26 percent of modern slaves are children below the age of 18 years, out of which girls are the victims of child prostitution and
As a people who were born free, futures ripe with opportunities and choices, it’s hard for most in American society to truly imagine slavery. It’s a horrific concept that is ingrained into childrens heads and then thought of as only an idea in a history class, but sadly, the past doesn’t seem to always stay in the past. Many forms of slavery that share a plethora of traits with slavery found back in the times of the civil war, are still very prevalent in the world today, domestic work and exploitation being a very huge problem in several countries.
...them to move in crowded spaces in factories or mines where adults would not fit. Children were easier to manage and control and most importantly paid less than adults. Although child labor has been substantially eliminated it still causes a problem in a few areas of the economy. The United States has yet to eliminate all abuse and violations. United States has come to meet the intentions of child labor reform byhelping to determine the laws and general practice andchildren should not be full time workers like adults. Meaning children should be in schooling programs getting their education instead of working in hazardous areas and putting themselves in harms way.
According to the United Nations Protocol for Prevention, Protection and Prosecution of Trafficking in Person’s, Especially Women and Children, human trafficking is the act of recruiting, harboring, transporting, and obliging a minor (a person under the age of eighteen), to perform a commercial sex act by force, fraud of coercion (as cited in Miller-Perrin and Wurtele, 2017, p. 124). CSEC the child is thought to be a sexual object and a commercial object. Furthermore, Miller-Perrin and Wurtele (2017), explained that to be considered sex trafficking rather than a sex crime (e.g. molestation, sexual assault, and rape) the commercial aspect or the exchange of financial asset is essential to CSEC and sex trafficking (p. 125). Children are treated as not only a sexual object that belongs to whoever buys them but also a commercial object to be used for financial
So I believe that the issue of child labour is not simple. As Unicef’s 1997 State of the World’s Children Report argued, children’s work needs to be seen as having two extremes. On one hand, there is the destructive or exploitative work and, on the other hand, there is beneficial work - promoting or enhancing children’s development without interfering with their schooling, recreation and rest. ‘And between these two poles are vast areas of work that need not negatively affect a child’s development.’ My firm belief is that there is a difference between child labour and child work and that in both cases the issue is whether or not the child is deliberately being exploited.
Human Trafficking in Africa In America, slavery is considered as an issue that had been solved in the past. However, most people don’t know that slavery actually still exists. Especially in Southern Africa, this region is known as the destination of human trafficking. Young African girls are kidnapped within their own country for sexual use and domestic servitude.
Children working might not seem like a bad ordeal; however, kids doing labor might paint a different thought in mind. Child labor is a form of human trafficking, which is present all around the world, but many people in different countries do not see it as a problem. School and the freedom to be a kid is given up because of human trafficking. Child labor is something that needs to stop all around the world. People do not see the damage of human trafficking like child labor and the affect it has on children on a mental and physical level.
