Ever justified to cheat?
Our upbringing, values, and morals that are instilled by our parents helps us determine right from wrong. However, ultimately as we grow older we are held accountable for our own decisions. We are the one who choose what path we want our lives to take. We either choose to make honest or dishonest decisions. According to the Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary cheating means to use “dishonest methods to gain an advantage” (2010. p.93). Why is cheating wrong? Many people ask this question. The answer is in the eye of the beholder. There are many interpretations of this question. Many also might ask is there a time when cheating is justified? Some feel that cheating can be good and their actions are justified. On the other hand many feel that cheating is dishonest. Since I value uprightness I understand that cheating is wrong and a dishonest thing to do. To me

As we think about this topic let’s stop and think have we ever cheated? Well ordinarily we don't want or have to talk about whether we have ever cheated or not. But have you ever looked over your neighbor's shoulder as you are taking a test? Or have you ever asked someone for the answer to a question because you fear you will fail the class. We feel we can justify our actions and they are condoned because we were too busy to study. Maybe we tell ourselves that it is the instructor’s fault that we need to cheat because they did not teach the course suitably. We try to think of good reasons to justify our actions. For instance, in sports if you do not work hard enough you will not be prepared. This could lead to you not getting the position you want. You may feel that by taking illegal narcotics you will be better prepared to play the sport. But in reality the only person you are harming is yourself. Therefore, if you cheat you are only cheating
People tend to blindly cheat to get what they want, and go about it as if it were normal. People don’t usually want to work for things if they can get it the easy way. In Stephen L. Carter’s article “The Rules about Rules”, Carter explains why Americans choose to cheat and how they don’t necessarily know right from wrong. Carter’s interpretation is accurate people do lack integrity due to having low self-esteem, and not having the courage to be different and separating themselves from the crowd.
The thing that confuses me are the reasons why people cheat. I know that in college life, it is clear that grades are important. Since grades are so important, people want to do better and want to succeed in their classes that they are taking. By cheating, it makes it easier for them to get a better grade. I agree that it is not an honest thing to do, but it is clear that they are doing it for a reason, to benefit themselves. Also, people want to help their friends succeed so that is another part of it. I think if schools wanted to get rid of cheating, they should not focus on the grades as much. Grading people is important, but is it that important if everyone cheats? I also see how people want to be viewed as honest. I do not think people want to cheat because they think they will be viewed as immoral. Also, they could be punished which would hurt them as well. If everyone cheats in schools, why not just allow it? That is the way that the world is running currently and everyone is cheating their way through
In conclusion, cheating is a dishonest action, and its effects could tremendously impact other people around. Alerting authority figures about dishonesty actions can help motivate students to learn the subjects thoroughly and build meaningful life experiences. Although we might lose a friendship, but in the long run, friends will be thankful, since who knows if they are in a situation, where they actually need to use their knowledge, in the workforce they are
“For every clever person who goes to the trouble of creating an incentive scheme, there is an army of people, clever and otherwise, who will inevitably spend even more time trying to beat it. Cheating may or may not be human nature, but it is certainly a prominent feature in just about every human endeavor. Cheating is a primordial economic act: getting more or less” (21). This quote is important because it proves how everyone has cheated once. In many cases it is true, people often cheat on tests or even on their diet. Not everyone can live up to their expectations. Some may justify it, others proudly proclaim it, and others will try denying their cheating vigorously. Most people consider cheating as a bad and unwise action. In this novel, it gave two examples of cheaters, school teachers and sumo wrestlers. It shows how both authors can take two different people and still find something similar with both of them, like cheating.
The most dominant reason people cheat on tests is that they did not study. Some people think for them to pass they have to cheat; it is the only way out. The pressure of a student knowing one test can decide or change your future. Knowing the consequences of failing people will go out of their way just to cheat for a high grade. Some students are lazy and believe cheating is easier than studying hard. Cell phones, gaming consoles, laptops technology can be a big distraction to all students in our generation. Certain students don’t have enough discipline to listen to their conscience because everyone knows what’s right and what’s wrong. Friends and partying can be a huge distraction that’s why students don’t study. Friends will try to get you to go to parties and do things that’s illegal that’s why parents are very worried about who their children hang out with. Then you have students who honestly don’t have time to study. Not everyone can afford college or living on campus so some study has to get a job to support them. Unfortunately, a thing in life happens where people have children and they don’t have any time to study. Stress can play a tool on student’s mental health or their physical health to when they can’t study at all.
...). Whatever motivation there is to cheat on a spouse, there is not an acceptable reason to do it.
Anyone and everyone knows not to cheat, it’s just not right. But in modern day it is quite often that students or people in general are tempted to cheat. Whether it is from a test to marriage humans are constantly being tempted to cheat. Some give in to the temptation and some don’t. This essay is mainly focused on the people who have cheated and give into temptation.
But research shows that everyone cheats a little--right up to the point where they lose their sense of integrity.” by Dan Ariely and “Why We Lie: The
Cheating is wrong, under no circumstances even with good intention, would this be acceptable. If we challenge that could cheating only certain circumstances be wrong? Applying principles of prima facie, defined as not being absolute (Rowan). The potential consequences of the teacher losing his job, the student getting expelled, other students relationships being impacted, how each would deal with the moral consequences in the future are all to be considered.
People say cheating has so many forms, but the worst one would be cheating in a relationship. A cheater is someone who cheats on his partner; someone who systematically betrays his partner either on a physical or emotional level. About a week ago I thought cheating was okay, but now I realize the harm it could cause to their significant other. True love doesn’t hurt, true love protects, and cares. Cheating can cause someone to have a mental break down, and leads to a complete loss of respect. When it comes to relationships, remaining faithful is never an option; loyalty is everything.
Although many people cheat throughout life whether it be in sports, politics, or in school, the results gained from cheating is meaningless therefore, cheating is never justified. If there is a situation that someone is compelled to cheat, it could just mean that that person was not prepared enough to succeed in that situation. Because cheating is addictive, if one ever cheats even once, it will become a habit that is hard to get rid of. Cheating not only affects the cheater, but the people surrounding them so it does not make sense to involve others in your act of dishonesty. Cheating is never justified for it only proves the goods of others, could possibly drag others down, and cause them to lose what they deserved.
However, not everyone feels the need to make excuses, as a poll in the USA shows. Many of the young people questioned admitted that one of the main reasons for cheating was simply laziness. Some of them admitted that they did not cheat when they had studied their lesson. If this is really the case, anyone tempted to cheat should consider the following warning in the book of Proverbs: "The one working with a slack hand will be of little means." (Proverbs 10:4)
It is in every human nature to run after success and happiness. In this case, cheating can stimulate joy as it is sweet as sugar, but at the same time, bring sorrow by leaving saltiness in your tongue. Most of the people define success through academic achievements and qualifications; hence, to achieve this success, it depends on the procedures that individuals decide to use; where cheating is one of them. In normal circumstances, there are significant gambles on a test where the stake is substantial and irrespective of the preparation conducted, some random variables are unaccountable. For instance, there is this simple conditional phrase where “ask a friend for the math assignment” as it is not easy for anyone to comprehend the feeling of failure. Irrespective of what one ought to gamble on, it is critical to be committed to it, but not to doubt yourself on the same since issues will automatically start to arise. Apparently, I am not proud of
