Bill Gates, one of the most American rich businessmen, said, “Capitalism has shortfalls. It doesn't necessarily take care of the poor, and it underfunds innovation, so we have to offset that. We don’t have to [ask] whether capitalism is wrong.” Everyone cannot agree with what he said because, according to The World’s Billionaires 2015, he is the richest person in the world and he is the co-founder and also chairman of Microsoft. Microsoft is the one of the biggest global corporation, however, the microsoft factory in China, the employees make computer mice and web cams for the American multicultural computer company by working 15 hour-shifts in appalling conditions and 86f heat, many of them fall asleep on their stations during their meager …show more content…
He is actually kind man who founded the largest private foundation in the world; Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Although he seems to be tender at a glance, the corporation that he founded exploits many things from underclasses. This is not only example of Microsoft, but also every big corporation. Nowadays, many corporations exploit lots of things from the working class. As a result, everyone has the risks to their lives in Capitalism. Thus, it is the time to change people’s thoughts that capitalism is the ubiquitous truth, which people can get more money and more happiness in capitalism because of three points; Some big corporations hope workers’ dying, Capitalism consists of a repetition of exploitation from under middle class to rich people, Environments and …show more content…
If the corporation, which is admitted as a legal person, kills the people, nobody can ask the responsibility as same as human. Even if the corporation takes the responsibility by paying the penalty, it may kill the people, destroy the environment, and exploit from the people again for the profit maximization to collect more shareholders. This is Capitalism. Unfortunately, It will keep going in the future, in other words, people have to live in capitalism with a lot of risks. In order to avoid risks, people should change their mind and the world. First of all, people have to understand what corporations do and only wealthy people can get the benefit in capitalism. Although capitalism promise the reward by results what people do as the biggest advantage for people, it cannot be necessarily said that result matches with the reward. Then, the system of the capitalism itself cannot be changed, because the connection in the economic aspect with other countries became strong by the multinational corporations and the formation of global market. Thus, people should change the world by establishing the law which protect the lives of people under the capitalism. Back to the chart from Michael Degusta, top 20% of the populations has 93% of the total wealth, however, other 80% of the population has 80% of the right to vote. Workers class can change their lives if they want because the
After having helped found what would be the world’s most popular and largest software company in 1975, Bill Gates officially found himself to be the richest man alive at the ripe, young age of only thirty-one. Gates had never imagined that the thirteen year old boy who loved to program computers in his parent’s garage would one day find himself to be considered the world’s wealthiest man alive, having a total net worth of $76 billion. Having began on his own, tinkering with computers and computer software, Gates later created the seed of Microsoft, or what was originally called Traf-O-Data in the summer of 1972. (Fast Facts) It wasn’t until two years later, with the help of his co-founder, Paul Allen that Microsoft was born, transforming the technological world in ways that the people had never seen. The birth of Microsoft changed the ways of old computers, making way for faster newer and more innovative technology, along with bringing on a strong competition with their rival company, Apple Inc. With this grand cooperation, Bill Gates was also accumulating a large mass of money, gradually finding himself to top the charts of the Forbes World Billionaires List. (Fast Facts) Despite being well known for his contributions to Microsoft, Bill Gates’ most profound impact on the American culture was in medical and educational advances provided by The Gates foundation, paralleled by his philanthropic views and aid in the lives of the both poor and wealthy.
Many people believe that capitalism has made a positive impact on the world, making it a better place to live in. Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft, in his article, “Making capitalism more creative” supports this belief. He emphasizes how capitalism has transformed this world and how it would make life better off in the future. Gates also stresses on how governments and different companies can involve new people in the capitalist setup to decrease economic disparity. However, capitalism is not as beneficial as Gates puts it. It has a dark side with respect to economic inequality, government involvement, new markets and social responsibility.
Capitalism as an economic system has not been around for a very long time. Stanford indicates that this economic system began in the mid-1700s in Europe . For a considerably young system, it almost seems impossible to imagine a different way of living. Capitalism has become deeply embedded in our social structures; it is naturalized as a way of doing day to day things. If this is the case, then we as humans have a long way to go if we are to achieve social and economic justice. The question I aim to explore is whether capitalism is capable of achieving socio-economic justice. I am arguing that it cannot achieve justice because there is too much focus on profit rather than people and it dislocates the consumers from the modes of production which indirectly promotes social inequality. Our current economic system which I will be interchangeably using as capitalism throughout the paper will examine why the focus on profit is detrimental to the social well-being of people and explain how capitalism is divisive and why this can pose negative outcomes for individuals and communities. It is with these arguments that outline the need for a fundamental change to how our economy is structured and managed.
Capitalism, by definition is known as “a way of organizing an economy so hat the things that are used to make and transport products are owned by individual people and companies rather than by the government”(Marxism). To some, this is the correct way of handling the economic situation in one’s country. But to others, such as Karl Marx and Adam Smith, there are other systems that would be more adequate. Is capitalism really the best way to go? What are the other options that could be better than capitalism? We must see which would be the best for society. If one were to negatively affect it, then it is not an option that should be taken. So, we must see the pros and cons for capitalism and how it can affect the economy and our society.
Our belief states are determined by the external factors, for example, perceived complexity and priming ethics is an interesting subject and everyone lives by their thoughts and their ways. Everyone lives by a different code. In this paper I will argue against capitalism, because capitalism in the long run is morally unjustified. I will start off by explaining what capitalism is, and then I will explain how capitalism affects us and lastly I will conclude why capitalism is not morally justifiable. Morality is about primary making the right choices. Now the key word here is, right. We have to make sure if the system is the right system for all of us as a whole and not only if it benefits only some.
In the modern world, in order to achieve an economic justice, the government needs to create opportunities for citizens through jobs and corporations. The economy will improve, without equality, but through private ownership that will encourage economic development and innovation. Furthermore, with the jobs being given directly from private ownership, the state would not have that much power to control the freedom and welfare of the citizens. This economic system is Capitalism which is more superior than socialism, an economic system that has no private ownership and manufactures are controlled and owned by the state, in achieving economic justice.
When most people hear about Bill Gates the first thing that comes to mind is the obscene amount of money he has made through out his career. Owning many different foundations, the most common foundation known to most college students is the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation that provide many different scholarships. However, this foundation also does various things to give back to communities and aiding suffering countries. Within this foundation there are also various branches such as the United States Program, The Global Development Program and the Global health program that have grown over time making the Gates a commonly used household name.
Along with the advance and development of the society, capitalism is acquired by lots of countries among the world. But in the meantime, an increasing number of problems are brought to our attention, one of which is the pros and cons of capitalism. As to whether it is a blessing or a curse, people take different attitudes. Capitalism can be traced back to the Middle Ages in Europe, and this economic system has been contributing to the whole human race for centuries. However, people are attaching more importance to what capitalism is really doing to us, and they start wondering if another world is possible. My paper will focus on the question “Is capitalism good or evil”, and discuss different views about it.
...ion for a long time and The Gates foundation is trying to change that. Melinda calls it “My life’s work” (5 Bill and Melinda Gates). Bill stated that the reason he is so generous is “Money has no utility to me … its utility is entirely is getting the resources out to the poorest in the world”(Tweedie).
Bill Gates once said “ I believe that with great wealth comes great responsibility , a responsibility to give back to society.”(Cesinski 100). Here Bill Gates is saying that people who are more lucky money wise should give back to society to help the people who don't have as much luck it's almost like it's their responsibility. In this quote Bill Gates believes everyone with great wealth should give back to society like he does. Bill Gates is an important figure in American History because he gave back to society unlike most people with that amount of money would. He is trying to get developing countries who are struggling to get an Education and a clean water source.
Having poor working conditions impacts the society in such a way that workers are depressed and do not work in peace. Apple should look for ways in which their suppliers can offer working conditions that are humane. If the current suppliers do not improve their working conditions, then Apple should consider looking for other suppliers since the working conditions of their workers should be of most priority (Apple Inc. 2016). Moreover, having good working conditions will attract more qualified personnel into the company, thus increasing the quality of their products. However, the main problem in Apple making sure that their suppliers offer better working conditions is that Apple has no legal liability in any operation that happens in China factories since their ownership is by separate manufacturers. It, therefore, gives Apple the dilemma of choosing between what is correct morally and what is correct legally. It also represents situations that are unfortunate since an action of being socially responsible is not what is best for the running of the business as using cheap labour to minimise cost has led to Apple to achieve margins that are spectacular and profits on its products (Dhaliwal 2011, 59-100). Apple should keep in mind that the aim of business is not always based on making profits since long-term goals are
There were many saints that were influential but how many can say that they personally affected the Pope. Saint Catherine of Siena was one of the many daughters of Jacopo and Lapa Benincasa. She grew up in northern Italy and her father was a wool dyer. She was their 23rd child. (‘St. Catherine of Siena | Saint of the Day |
Gates has also given over half of his life earnings to charity and other public minded organisations. This has helped him achieve not only the status of one of the world's greatest entrepreneurs, but also a man who ultimately cares about the future of society, which is reflected in new product developments and technologies, all of which are designed to make our lives simpler.
To explain, what makes Gates’ foundation a special legacy different from other foundations is that his foundation encourages people by giving its example. Bill Gates learned what poverty is during his numerous trips to different developing parts of the world, therefore, through his foundation his aim is to teach others how to help those in need based on the experiences he
When the problem became serious two main views formed: the “narrow” view and the “broader” view, based on different ideas. The “narrow” view is based on the proposition that corporations have no social responsibility and they have only one main purpose, to make a profit (Friedman, 1970). So corporations should remain socially independent and all conflicts must be solved through the individual responsibility concept. On the contrary the “broader” view states that corporations have social obligations as all existing participants of market, persons and entities are tied together and are mutually dependent. So corporations cannot ignore some serious events or problems, which take place, and must help society, as profit is not their single purpose.
