Write Introduction There are many job duties of a social worker. First, they maintain cases and file records for their patients. They typically carry a caseload and have to chart on the work they do that involve their patients/clients. Secondly, they assist families that have serious domestic conflicts, sometimes involving child or spousal abuse. They act as a support and provide community resources that they can use to help them. Next, social workers assist people by helping them cope with and solve issues in their everyday lives, such as family and personal problems and dealing with relationships. For this to happen they mostly work full time and sometimes have to work nights and weekends. Also, some have to work on holidays. They typically work a 40 hour week. After talking to my mom, who is a social worker at Community Memorial Hospital in Menomonee Falls, they rotate who works what holidays and weekends. She also works at St. Luke's Hospital on some weekends. Next, Social workers spend most of their time in offices but may need to travel locally to help patients with their needs. Social workers work in a variety of settings, including mental health clinics, schools, child welfare and human service agencies, hospitals, settlement houses, community development corporations, and private practices. A positive part of working in these places is that they are secure and have safe environments to work in. The one thing that could be considered a negative on the work environment is that there is lots of paperwork to fill out and that can cause work overload. This job can be very challenging and a high pressure job, but rewarding in the end after a case if finished and knowing you helped
Social work as a profession strives to help the welfare of those within the community whether its persons or families through advocacy. Often times clients are those who may be vulnerable and disadvantaged. Social workers aim to help people fulfill basic needs in their everyday lives and assist them by providing beneficial resources and intervention counseling. They do more than just help them in their current situation, it’s about helping them to survive and set attainable goals to live a fuller and better life for themselves, and most time for their families.
