ET 6 Pit Bulls Pit Bulls are put down every single day because of fear, However public education will change the negative information. While many believe it is okay to hate Pit bulls, others feel that hating Pit Bulls is wrong because it is based on the rumors and lies from society. I believe that it Pit Bulls are not understood by society, people believe that these dogs are very aggressive and should be illegal. I believe otherwise that Pit Bulls are not aggressive and should be legal. I also believe this because these dogs act the way they do because of the way they are raised up and how they are taught. Here are a few reasons why I believe what I do. In the Article “Akron man arrested in connection with dog-fighting ring faces new cruelty”, …show more content…
by Kathy Antoniotti it states, “found 6 dogs in poor physical shape and living in unsanitary conditions” why does a person have animals if you don't have the proper living space for them? It also states “ the Pit Bulls were living in a private fenced in area and could not be viewed from the road” keeping a dog sheltered where they’re not able to associate with anyone besides their owner would cause them to be aggressive because they don't know how to be social with anyone or anything such as other dogs. Another statement was “ removed contraband normally associated with dogfighting, such as treadmill harnesses and a piece of hide also a supplement for building muscle in animals” I don't understand why people would go through so much trouble to set things up for these dogs trying to get them to be the way some of them are knowing that if they get caught with some stuff they can get in deep trouble. A dog can build up muscle doing things the healthy way such as going outside playing, running, tugging on toys meant to be played with. In the article “A Fierce Dog Debate” by Scholastic News it states “ many people think banning the dogs all together is the best way to prevent attacks.” Banning these dogs all together will not solve this issue it will only start rumors about another type of breed just like how people wanted to ban Rottweilers people used to have the same opinions about them but they gave up on that breed and moved to Pit Bulls. It also states “ their too strong and aggressive to be kept as pets” these dogs are not any stronger than most big dogs every dog can be as strong as you would like it to be just depends how they are trained and raised, Rottweilers are very strong dogs they have very large heads and big mouths sorta like Pit Bulls. Also German Shepherds are extremely strong dogs if they weren’t strong I doubt they would be used to be police dogs and they also can be very aggressive just like any other dog. Lastly, it states “Irresponsible owners train their dogs to be vicious toward people and other dogs” this is completely true owners need to understand how to take care of their pets correctly or they shouldn't have one to begin with. It doesn’t take much to have a dog, cat, or smaller animal you just need to take them to a vet, feed them, get them the things that they need such as toys to chew on, give them the attention that they need and care for them the best of your ability I don't understand why people would want their dogs to be aggressive besides the fact that they don't care about the dog and they’re using it to make money for themselves. Its absolutely horrible how abused animals are now days. Reasons why Pits are so mistaken these days are because of society, spreading rumors, Yes maybe people do have stories about these dogs such as dog fighting, being aggressive towards people or other animals, but they’re are also answers to some of it. A Pit Bull is not a type of breed it is how the dog looks. “Pit Bull” is actually related to different breeds of dogs such as American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier and also hundreds of dogs that look similar to them. In the Article “5 reasons why Pit Bulls are misunderstood” it states “Pit Bulls are not ready to rip into another dog, animal or human being” this is true the only reason why these dogs get aggressive and mean is because they aren’t being raised correctly or they’re being trained to be aggressive and mean towards people, animals and children. They also might not be getting the attention that they need a lot of dogs need to go outside and be very active to keep them calm its just in their heredity. It states “they can become violent, aggressive and mean through a lack of training, abuse, neglect and irresponsible ownership and breeding as well as a lack of attention to health and temperament issues” as I just said these dogs act the way they do because of how they are treated and raised up if you don't provide the needs for your pets you don't need them. Lastly, it says “in some cases the victim has actually provoked the dog” if you see a dog outside that doesn't belong to you and you walk up to it and decide to pet it or mess with it you don't know what the dog is going to do, people don't understand that some dogs aren't taken care of properly and if you mess with the wrong dog, it could cause the dog to be vicious and aggressive towards you. Also, younger kids think it’s fun to walk up to dogs that are tied outside on a leash and provoke them to bark and growl because they think it’s funny, well sometimes dogs can get loose and what are they expected to do they’re going to run after they’re target if they haven't been taught otherwise. There are some people who have an organization such as a lady named Tia Torez she has a show called Pit Bulls and Parolees she welcomes in dogs who are on the street and she believes that Pit Bulls aren’t treated right, so she brings them into her shelter and gives them a chance and works with them so they can get better.
Once she gets them to act better from growing up the way they did, she tries to find them a home. In the Article “About Pit Bulls and Parolees” it states “are viewed as unadoptable with many shelters automatically deciding to put them down” talking about the Pits. They should be given a chance if you train a dog they will get better. Dogs shouldn’t be put to sleep because everyone thinks they’re such bad dogs putting the dog to sleep is animal abuse in my opinion every dog deserves a chance. It also states “Torez rescues, rehabilitates and retrains more than 400 Pit Bulls so they can be placed in good homes”. Its really good to know that someone cares, she is giving these dogs a chance and she is doing the absolute right thing by trying to prove these dogs and they're …show more content…
innocence. There was a story about about Michael Vick a football star that got arrested for running a dogfighting ring.
After he was arrested there was more than 50 Pit Bulls were picked up off his property. In the article “Vicks dogs to be euthanized” states “if its a fighting operation the dogs are euthanized because they’re to aggressive to be handled by people and they’re just too dangerous around other animals”. Any dog should not be euthanized unless it is absolutely needed such as being sick, being in pain, having health issues that cause chronic pain. The dogs can be taught and trained too act correctly people just don't give them the chance. It also states “you could do a behavioral assessment on each dog and make judgement about some dogs that might be capable of rehabilitation, but it would be costly”. This is a great idea, every dog deserves a chance and a behavioral assessment would help so many dogs. They would be able to find so many helpless dogs a home. Michael Vick stayed in prison for 18
months. In my opinion, Pit Bulls should be legal, and all negativity needs to stop. People need to give these dogs a chance. If owners would grow up and take care of their pets, people/society wouldn’t have any rumors to start. Pit Bulls used to be Americas favorite. Now people look at them and think before even getting to know the dog assume that the dog is aggressive, mean and will try to hurt them. Thats not how people should think of them. They are actually amazing dogs, yes they are strong, but what big dog isn’t. People used to accuse Rottweilers and German Shepherds of the same issues as Pits. Public education would be a great way to start a new opinion on these dogs.
I believe that all people should be allowed to have any type of dog that they want. It’s just odd how people think that pit bulls are dangerous or vicious.
She explains that breed-specific sterilization would help the Pit Bull population all over the country and it would also help reduce the euthanasia usage in all shelters. 63% of Pit Bulls are put down in shelters because of the lager number of population. Others argue against it because it hard to determine which dogs are actually Pit Bulls and it is also unfair to certain dogs. Charlotte again quotes Sara saying that when you discriminate against a certain breed, you are also discriminating against the well behaved
They have twisted the dogs mind into thinking that they have to fight to protect something all the time. Pit bulls are classified as vicious and harmful animals. This is discrimination and is because of media skewing stories, ignorant people that refuse to listen to hard facts, and public attitudes and opinions. These laws against breeds are unconstitutional; there is no legislative basis for these laws. Pit bulls, like any other dog, grow in their temperament.
Lutz, Jaime. "Family Chooses Homelessness Over Abandoning Pit Bull." ABC News. ABC News Network, 19 Feb. 2014. Web. 17 Mar. 2014.
If all other breeds are not judged for attacking people, then why are all pit bulls being unfairly judged? Pitbulls are being banned in different counties because they are being wrongly accused of being dangerous. Pit Bulls should not be banned because they can be helpful, the media has given them a bad reputation, and they are only mean if trained that way.
The poem above speaks volumes about the nature of man’s best friend. Dogs are not inherently created bad, but are rather “a product of its environment”. The same principle applies to the world’s most misunderstood breed of dog. When you hear the phrase “pit bull”, what do you think of? A savage beast, murdering out of cold blood? A menace to society, lurking the streets, just waiting for its next victim? This couldn’t be further from the truth for most pit bulls. These fantasised versions plague the breed, outlawing them in many cities, states, and even some countries entirely. These bans are called Breed Specific Legislation (BSL), and in over 700 American cities these laws are in effect. They are in place to decrease the number of attacks
In 18 August, 2011, the source of this event is from Herald Sun. A four-year-old lovely child named Ayen Chol was mauled and killed by a pit bull cross while she was playing in her home. The vicious pit bull escaped from a neighbour’s yard and mauled Ayen in a sudden attack. The dog rushed inside the house and set upon Ayen and some other children who were watching television. Ayen’s mom tried to beat the dog away from the children with a table, but she failed. Then the dog turned on Ayen and the vicious injuries caused Ayen’s death. Dr Cam Day, who is the RSPCA’s Queensland pit bull expert, has claimed that American pit bull terriers are ‘head, shoulder, feet and everything else above other breeds’ in terms of their capacity to injure and maim. If the government doesn’t ban pit bulls, these tragedies would continue to happen and children’s lives would be threatened all the
Are all pit bulls subjected to the life of gangs or forced into a fighting ring? No, but it is the dogs that are and have become violent because of their mistreatment that get in the media which leads to the public fearing all pit bulls. There are often cases of apartment buildings, rental homes or even whole towns banning the breeds without question. A case that is reaching media today is in Moreauville Louisiana, the town passed a ban that originally stated that everyone who owned a Pitt bull (or Rottweiler) had to get rid of their animals before the first of December or the “vicious” animals will be confiscated for "further disposition” and the owners will be forced to pay a fine. One of the dogs who is in danger from this ban is Zeus, a pitt bull who acts as a therapy dog for his owner O’Hera Owens who has severe neck problems that leave her in a brace and wheel chair. (Greenquist) Zeus is a loving member of his family who is being discriminated against just for his breed. Is it fair for a family to lose someone they love just because of how other dogs have acted? Or how the monster’s at the ends of their leashes forced them to act? Zeus is a prime example of two things, one that bans are doing more harm than good and that with the right upbringing pitt bulls can be sweet and loving animals once given the chance. However not all pitts even get that chance to have a loving home like Zeus – shelters across the country are full of Pit bull terriers who need homes but rarely get them because of their
Currently, pit bulls have been reported by the media with very horrific and disturbing news of having attacked a child or being shot by a police due to aggression while some are reported to have been abused or neglected by its owners (Forderer and Unkelbach 534). And because the reports keep coming with heated discussions, more and more people have forged a frightening image of pit bulls even to the extreme of refusing to take care of such breed. Pit bull advocates claim that the dogs get a bad reputation considering that people should learn the dogs are not inherently aggressive. What the pit bull advocates would like to point is that the owners of the pit bulls should be considered guilty for mishandling of their own dogs. There are owners of pit bulls that even encourage the dog to be aggressive in order to fight and protect them in a wrong manner and wrong degree of training (Forderer and Unkelbach 536). Pit bull advocates claimed that a well socialized and well trained pit bull would be very intelligent and could be one of the gentle dogs imaginable.
...ports Illustrated cover photo of a pit bull (Pit Bull Rescue Central, "Breed Information”). Dog fighting made a comeback during the 1980s and the pit bull became the favorite macho dog for dog fighters. The dogs were trained to kill or be killed. Pit bulls were also the preferred guard dog for gangs, thugs and criminals. Since the supporters and detractors of pit bulls hold such disparate opinions regarding the ferocity of the breeds, it is only hoped that further discussion and education will help resolve the sad fate that awaits these unfortunate animals. Simply placing all the blame on the breeds will not solve the problems of dog fighting, overbreeding, aggressive training, and excessive euthanizations. Lastly, the biased, sensationalistic publicity of horrific dog attacks which has destroyed the reputation of the once beloved All American Dog must cease.
Pit Bulls are without a doubt my favorite dog, I adore them. Pit Bulls are very well tempered, loyal, and resilient animals. Bred for big game hunting, Pit Bulls are strong, fierce animals and people who have the wrong intentions for ownership should never own them. I am a strong believer that a potential pet owner should do lots of research before getting any type of animal, without exception. Owners should do as much research before getting a dog as they do in planning for a new home or any other new family member. One of the main things to really think about and understand is your intentions for your selection of an animal with the breeding of the Pit Bull. If you choose a dog with the wrong intentions, specifically a Pit Bull, you will get a dog that behaves aggressively and is dangerous. This owner behavior is what has caused the current plight of the Pit Bull today, where laws have been passed in thirteen states and hundreds of municipalities, as well as every U. S. Military base, banning the ownership of the breed and forcing shelters to euphonize Pit Bulls within 24 hours. These laws are unjust and cruel, and victimize the breed based on the owners’ behavior. I also argue that the blame for the epidemic proportions that the laws have reached is 100% the fault of owners who purposely acquired the Pit Bull with the intention to abuse and fight the dogs, and that these owners are the ones who should be punished, not the dogs. (Davis)
Roughly about 30% of all dogs are pit bulls that are taken to shelters which depending on the area that figure can raise up to 60%. Not every pit bull rescued were a part of dog fighting but John Goodwin, of the Humane Society, says most of the dogs have scars and marks to show for their fights. The fate of these dogs remain to a judge that determines whether the fight dogs need to be euthanized. Since these dogs were trained to be aggressive and attacks other animals 9 times out of 10 they are to be put down. The dogs that haven’t been a part of dog fighting fit into a family and shows no sign of
They will play many dog games with children without hurting them. They strive for the love of “their humans.” These dogs could also be great therapy dogs to those they care about. Pit bulls can keep people company and take their minds off whatever is bothering them. This breed also has a face that allows them to smile.
...es to all of the other dogs in the world. In a country proud of our diversity and freedoms, we should be granting dogs the same lives. They deserve that diversity in what breeds they are mixed with and the freedom of a life outside of the bars in a shelter. Do your part and give a dog the life it deserves.
Contrary to that popular belief, dangerous animal behavior is the function of inherently dangerous dog owners, not inherently dangerous dogs. One fact that supports this is that pit bulls are the dogs most often shot during drug raids (TELLINGS v. Toledo). Besides the pit bulls that are owned by drug dealers for status symbols and protection, many pit bulls are owned by people that breed them for fighting. These poor dogs have a very slim chance of living a normal and happy life. This is not the fault of the dog, but the fault of the owners that should not have the dog, or should care for them better.
