Humble is who I am, considering my upbringing. Raised in a single-parent, low income household, watching my mother work three and four jobs at once. I made it my duty to find a way to help her, my family and myself. Education is my solution to beating the odds and making a way out of no way for us. Faced with a great deal of tribulations in my life, I came to the realization that I’m a problem-solver. Health care is a controversial government topic that is constantly debated, due to many complications within it. Personally, as a patient and an employee I have experienced the difficulties and hardships of both sides. So, my goal is to one day come up with a solution to this health care dilemma, but also to educate others along the way. Consequently, …show more content…
The opportunity to work alongside peers who also envision having an impact on the health care industry is what I want. Also, to learn from faculty members who have health care experience and want to equip others with the necessary resources to succeed is another wish I have. Receiving my degree from Simmons will allow me to empower more individuals like myself who are African American and a woman that they too can be successful in the clinical and the administrative side of health care. Being able to share the information I have learned over the years with others to hopefully influence them to live better, more fulfilling lives is something I enjoy doing. My role as a nurse practitioner will help continue this form of leadership. Furthermore, there is a growing need for registered nurses and nurse practitioners as our generations continue to age. The U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics expects a growth “of around 19% by 2020 (bls.org).” In conclusion, receiving a degree from Simmons will help me achieve my goal to become a great nurse, an amazing nurse practitioner and an exceptional chief executive in the …show more content…
I applied to Simmons’ bachelors program, but was waitlisted and even that was an honor to me. To me it meant Simmons College saw me at a prosperous student on their campus. To me Simmons had acknowledged that they understood my vision and wanted to be a supportive family that helped me achieve it. Simmons will always be and has always been my top school because each person I speak with has this essence about them that they want to help and even if they do not know the answer to my question they will search with me someone better who can help. Simmons has a 100% pass rate for the NCLEX and that is not because they are lucky it’s because they have a great system of well qualified students, supportive staff and faculty members. I want to be surrounded by a diverse cohort of peers and have professors that empower us all to succeed. Simmons is the college I know will fulfill my vision. Moreover, I want to be competent and confident in my field as a nurse practitioner and Simmons help me achieve all my
The national shortage of Registered Nurses (RNs) has helped generate formidable interest in the nursing profession among people entering the workforce and those pursuing a career change. According to a report issued by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Service in 2002, the national population is continuing to grow and age and medical services continue to advance, so the need for nurses will continue to increase. They report from 2000 to 2020 the predicted shortage of nurses is expected to grow to 29 percent, compared to a 6 percent shortage in 2000. With the projected supply, demand, and shortage of registered nurses and nursing salaries ever-increasing, the nursing profession can offer countless opportunities. But first one must determine which educational path to pursue, Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Associate Degree in nursing (ADN). Most will initially be educated at the associate degree level, even though the American Organization of Nursing Executives (AONE) has recommended a baccalaureate level as a minimal for entry-level nurses. With the expanding number of RN to BSN programs available there is always the option to further one’s education at a later date. The benefits for acquiring a BSN over an ADN include a better knowledge for evidence-based practice, an increased advantage for promotion, and the necessary gateway for higher education.
For the last five years of my life I have worked in the healthcare industry. One of the biggest issues plaguing our nation today has been the ever rising cost of health care. If we don't get costs under control, we risk losing the entire system, as well as potentially crippling our economy. For the sake of our future, we must find a way to lower the cost of health care in this nation.
Healthcare has been a topic of discussion with the majority of the country. Issues with insurance coverage, rising costs, limited options to gain coverage, and the quality of healthcare have become concerns for law makers, healthcare providers and the general public. Some of those concerns were alleviated with the passing of the Affordable Care Act, but new concerns have developed with problems that have occurred in the implementation of the new law. The main concerns of the country are if the Affordable Care Act will be able to overcome the issues that plagued the old healthcare system, the cost of the program, and how will the new law affect the quality of the health delivery system.
Overall, the increase within health care costs is effecting our nation significantly. Not only does it affect consumers but also organization. As it continues to increase everyone is finding themselves unable to pay for such changes. Reducing such growth within the health care costs requires a collaborative, inclusive, and dual-party approach. Strategies for reducing the costs include but not limited to: promoting prevention and healthy living, improving patient safety, and promoting transparency on medical costs and quality. If the nation works on such improvements, hopefully we will be able to turn the health care system into something we can all afford once again.
As I began watching Reinventing Healthcare-A Fred Friendly Seminar (2008), I thought to myself, “man, things have changed since 2008.” And as the discussion progressed, I started to become irritated by how little had changed. The issues discussed were far-reaching, and the necessity for urgent change was a repeated theme. And yet, eight years later, health care has made changes, but many of its crucial problems still exist.
Despite the established health care facilities in the United States, most citizens do not have access to proper medical care. We must appreciate from the very onset that a healthy and strong nation must have a proper health care system. Such a health system should be available and affordable to all. The cost of health services is high. In fact, the ...
The first reason that I want to go to BMHS is that because of its academic achievements. In 2007 it was named the fourteenth best schools in Colorado. Also in 2006,2007 and 2008 it was named one of the top 50 catholic schools
Health care is one of the most debated issues in the United States today and it 's necessary to understand the basics of this problem. Approximately 50 million people living in the United
I want to be a nurse, specifically a nurse practitioner. I have always been fascinated with the medical field and see a bright future in it for me. I have the opportunity of meeting new people every day with a variety of personalities. There is always something new to discover in this field. A nurse practitioner's job is to be able to diagnose and treat illnesses. They also prescribe medicine and run physical exams. I am highly interested in pursuing the career of a nurse practitioner because the healthcare field is always in need for medical professionals, it pays well, and I am helping people at the same time.
University of Virginia is my sole choice for scholastic development. In my capacity as a frontline nurse, I have laid the foundation for the focus of my research interests and feel that my performance, initiative, and dedication to my patients are genuine evidence of my ability to perform competently and enthusiastically in an academic research setting. I hope that with this degree I can incorporate DNP essentials in my practice and make a difference by focusing on patient experience. No other field could ever provide me with personal and professional satisfaction and I look forward with great purpose to contributing much more. Thank you for your time and
My Place in the Future of Nursing The IOM Future of Nursing recommendations have created many changes in the current nursing practice, which many states have taken into effect in their current nursing facilities. In like matter, with the multitude of changes taking place in the future of nursing, many nurses take a step back to think where they will be in their nursing careers in the future. The purpose of this paper is to discuss how I see myself fitting in the IOM Future of Nursing recommendations that include the Recommendation 4: Increase the proportion of nurses with a baccalaureate degree to 80% by 2020, Recommendation 5: Double the number of nurses with a doctorate by 2020, and Recommendation 6: Ensure that nurses engage in lifelong learning.
Humble can be utilized in school, sports, and life outside those activities, so strive to be that humble student other classmates appreciate. Strive to be that teammate other players love competing with. Strive to be that citizen that other residents think fondly about. The world holds an abundance of humble people who display the quality in a variety of ways.
An advanced degree in nursing education will enable me to gain entry level teaching position as a nursing educator in a CUNY or SUNY institution in New York. Being able to teach nursing students, will demonstrate that my goals were accomplished. Moreover, I can use the new knowledge gained from Stony Brook University to enhance future nurses education. As I reflect on Stony Brook’s vision and mission statements, it motivates me to go after my dreams so I can transform the lives of others and give to social change in my community. Finally, having a higher education will improve my economic status by providing me financial security. Therefore, these goals will enable me to continue to uphold Stony Brook's mission statement by contributing to positive social
Without mincing words, the system we had, despite its universality, was largely inefficient and did little to help those who couldn’t afford private healthcare. I’m aware the episode I just recounted isn’t unique to me but is a phenomenon that is present in many developing countries. My experiences and thoughts about this have led to my interest in global health and health policy. I want to learn as much as I can about health policy in countries that have a health system that works such as the U.S. I want to contribute as much as I can towards improving the U.S’s current health system and eventually want to use the knowledge I’ve acquired to help developing nations restructure and improve their health care
Health care has always been an interesting topic all over the world. Voltaire once said, “The art of medicine consists of amusing the patient while nature cures the disease.” It may seem like health care that nothing gets accomplished in different health care systems, but ultimately many trying to cures diseases and improve health care systems.
