One of the experiences that I have been lucky to have is working at a small family owned golf course. There, I was almost immediately trusted with a large workload. Early on, I made a name for myself being hard working, honest, and trust worthy. A portion of my job was given to me when I expressed my plans of being an accountant after college. Because of my future plans, the owner of this small business taught me the functions of not only being a part of the customer service but also the behind the scenes financial portion. Soon I wasn’t only being taught about the numbers that factor into the operations, but I began implementing my knowledge of excel and showing that I was not just there to make money. I feel that I was able to make the most of my minimum wage job by completing tasks that allowed me to become proficient in excel, familiar with the financial statements of a business, and even help me …show more content…
I found this job to be very beneficial to strengthening my work ethic. Even though I worked at a golf course, the owner showed me that the only way to keep a small business operating is to never be satisfied with the profits and success of the business. Always finding new ways to promote their product over the competitors and keep the customers coming back. Together, the owner and myself worked on strategies to bring in new people from the greater community and try to improve their experience to boost our customer turnout. Another way this job has acted as a stepping stone in my career is by allowing me to practice my public relations skills. There, I have been able to work on my networking skills, being sociable with the customers and my work associates. This has allowed me to better my connectivity with the variety of different people in the work
Ever since I was a little kid, golf has been there. Golf has been something in my life that I can always fall back on and use to get some anger out of just to clear my head. No matter what it was, golf has been my rock. There is nothing like waking up at the crack of dawn to get out under the sun to play a game you love.
I took up my first job sophomore year of high school and have stuck with it ever since. I currently still work there, Enchanted Beach Weddings. In this job I work labor and I am also one of the head photographers. We set up beautiful weddings on the beach and then I am in charge of directing them and leading the bride, groom and everyone else through the wedding. While I am doing that, I am also taking the wedding photography. It is a super stressful job to have couple’s wedding day experience in your hands and control, but I have never had a bad experience with it and am so priveleged to be a part of such an important day for couples about 75 times each year. On the side of this job, I have always had a fun job to make a little extra money by work...
I guess it started when I was about twelve years old. My father took me to this place called a golf course. I did not know why or what we were here for, but I was interested in finding out. We entered a building called a clubhouse; then, he paid for a bucket of practice balls. I followed him to the driving range. Once we got there, he got a metal stick from his golf bag and gave it to me. I grabbed the stick, and he showed me how to hold it. Then, he told me to swing it. I swung it back and forth as careless as I could. He then said, "Son, you have one of the nicest golf swings I have ever seen." I did not even know what I was doing with that stick, but I guess my dad saw something I didn't. My father then decided that he was ready to teach me how to use the three clubs of golf: a putter, iron, and wood. He handed me the putter, and we went to the green. He explained to me that a putter is used on a green to get the ball into the hole. I took a few smooth swings back and forth to get a feel for a putter. He said, "Hit this ball until it goes into the hole." I was impressed with myself because it only took me six hits to get it in the hole. He laid twenty balls on the green, and he told me to hit every ball in with one shot. It took me about three hours, but I accomplished what my dad told me. He thought I was ready to try the next club, so we headed to the next location. We went out onto the fairway, and he handed me an iron. He laid out some more balls on the ground and told me to hit them towards the flag on the green. The first ball I hit did not even get close to the green. The rest of the balls I hit went either over or on the front of the green, but I never let another one fall short. My dad said, "Keep practicing until you hit all of the balls on the green." I kept practicing until all of the balls were laid up around the flag.
Golf is more than just a game to me it connects me to my family, teaches me something new every time I play, and be part of a team. I haven’t been playing the game long but it is now a part of me.
Walking into the Loyola golf coach's office, I couldn't help but smile at what I saw: a golf bag with my name embroidered on it. Now I am officially a NCAA Division I athlete. This happened more than a year ago, when I just arrived at Loyola and was getting ready to play collegiate golf. Golf was the thing that excited me the most. I looked forward to meeting my teammates, going to my first practice, and playing in my first tournament.
It just always seemed like something that I had to do. Ever since I was ten years old I’ve been playing, practicing, and talking about golf. I always have had a love for the game, but I never really thought about how stressful and painful it made my life. Even at ten I thought my future had already been planned for me. I was already thinking of life as a professional golfer. I was certain that I would go play golf for a big college, and instant fame would soon follow. It wasn’t until the last couple of years that life has changed for me.
Our town is notable for having several interesting golf courses. For those residents whose interests lie in other pursuits, those courses are a waste of large quantities of otherwise useful space that could be better used to construct another mall or store. For the golf enthusiasts among us, however, the preponderance of courses is a delightful benefit of living in this otherwise uninteresting locale, where the only saving grace is the plentiful supply of interesting people.
Students learn many different lessons while participating in school activities and competing on athletic teams. Sportsmanship, determination, time management, holding yourself accountable, and trusting yourself are some important lessons that I experienced and took away from my time being on the golf team at my school for four years. One of the most significant lessons that the game of golf taught me was to always have the desire to learn and better yourself. A person can never be done learning because there will always be new skills to learn and old skills to improve upon. I love and value learning and believe that it is necessary to strive to be a life long learner.
Searching around my cluttered room I usually stumble across my first ever golf club I used. Every time I am at the driving range in Ellersile I always relive the first memories of my golf. I always think back to the first club I ever had. This club has an old rusty very, short and thin meatal golf club. It had an old purple rubber grip at the top of the rusty metal shaft. Like my dad always said “trusty rustiest”, this phrase would always remind me of the fantastic memory of me first striking that little old rusty club at the Ellersile driving range.
It's easy to picture a golf course manager as someone who just makes sure everyone is having a good time playing, but golf course management is actually a complex and challenging career. Anyone who wants to enter this field should understand just how many different hats he or she will be wearing and how many different types of jobs they will be doing to make sure the facility they manage is running smoothly and their customers are happy. The most obvious focus of the work is Operations; keeping the day to day working of a course, country club or driving range running smoothly. Operations management includes everything from making sure the course opens up on time to making sure cart rental is handled properly and that caddies are lined up for
Golf tourism is spreading rapidly all over the world in places like Asia and Mexico. Although most people who play the sport of golf play because of its interaction with nature, what most golfers do not realize or consider is the damaging environmental impact on the sport. The booming golf trade throughout the world creates a haven for golfers and a nightmare for environmentalists. According to members of the Malaysia-Based Asia-Pacific People’s Environment Network, golf development is becoming one of the most unsustainable and damaging activities to people and the environment (TED Case Studies, 1997).
A golf club supply chain company needs to find a solution to the supply chain network planning problem. The production for the golf clubs are pending on the ability for the company to meet serval aspects. Currently they are facing the following: 14 components, 10 assembled products, 18 suppliers, 54 customers, and in a 12-month time period. “The main objective is to construct a procurement-assembly plan enabling it to minimize its costs while satisfying the customers’ demand over a given planning horizon is such a way as to hedge against uncertainty.” (Bilgen, B. 2010). Due to several uncertainties; it was determined that using the Fuzzy Mathematical Programming (FMP) model would provide the most accurate computational result. Zadah proposed
The first most emphasized characteristic in Machiavelli’s theory of an ideal prince is power when possible a prince should attempt to gather support from others but always rely on his own arms. Relying on friends, luck, or other people’s arms may seem easier but will turn out harder to hold on to in the end. Machiavelli provides an entire chapter based on Cesare Borgia, who rose to eminence mostly through his father’s connections, however he was cunning enough to take hold of his newly acquired position. In the beginning of The Prince Machiavelli classifies many kinds of states, mainly focusing on one that is the hardest to attend to also known as New States. Since a New State is easy to conquer but hard to handle a prince must provide a powerful central management.
It was a clothing store for children. I enjoyed the job I had in the beginning; all I did was open up boxes and place the clothes in the racks so the store associates could hang them up on the store racks. I enjoyed the job because I did not have to deal with the customers that came into the store. In addition, when viewing what I value in the workplace, I realized that I find intellectual stimulation, security, and economic rewards to be the most important values.
First, I will express my personal mastery journey with my work life. I just recently graduated from the University of Indianapolis with my undergraduate degree in accounting. I graduated with a high GPA while participating in collegiate baseball, which I believe will help set me apart from others when beginning my career. That being said, I also believe that I have a lot of learning to do in order to be successful in my early career. I feel that I did not learn as much as I should have about accounting and I will need to dedicate a significant amount of time relearning and learning to have success in the accounting field. My vision for my career is to be a partner at a mid-level accounting firm in my early to mid 30’s. I aspire to be at a company that challenges me and allows me to progress and meet my goals. I would prefer a mid-level accounting firm because it would allow a better work life balance due to less hours. In order for me to bridge this very large gap of where I am currently at and where I aspire to be, there are a great deal of obstacles I need to overcome. First, I need to land an entry level position with an accounting firm that I feel will allow me to grow and succeed. I also need to put in the time to learn as much as I can about the profession. Finally, I need to allocate a substantial amount of time to studying and passing the certified public accountant exam. This is my
