Why are Bad People Bad? There are good people, people, and bad people. People do as people do. Good people do this function well. Therefore, bad people go against their function. In analogy, Clothes cover a person's nakedness, this is what they do. In this way a ratty old bed sheet can be worn and considered clothes. Good clothes cover nakedness in a way that looks nice, and in a durable way. For example, a nice suit or dress. Bad clothes do not cover nakedness. Imagine clear, plastic pants. From this definition I must conclude that bad people are impossible. People naturally have the potential for improvement and progression. I.e.: youth becoming Virtuous. It is a humans function to be able to use this. A good person is one who works to improve themself diligently. (Humans also have rationality tied to this?) Therefore, a bad person must be unforgivable and irredeemable. This is because forgivable people are not wholly blamed for their actions, …show more content…
Try right now and imagine an action that you have done that doesn’t at least have some aspect that justifies doing it. For example, going to a bad job. Why do you not quit? Because it gives you money, and you want money. In the same way, people will choose to do bad acts because either they benefit from it in some way, or they really believe that it is worth doing. An example of this is (Cody? LAstname) from monster. He wants to become a gangster because it is cool, and cool is a desirable way of being seen. He knows what being a gangster entails, but he chooses to become one because those aren’t so bad to him to offset the benefit of being a gangster. People choose to be bad because they think it is good. Bad people are different. They know it isn’t good, there isn’t any goodness about it, and they still choose to act as they do. They do the bad, not the apparent good. They can not be excused in anyway for having any type of ignorance at the time of
By looking at good and evil in human nature in “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell, one can see that both good and evil is in everyone which is important because what makes us more good or evil is created through experiences.
The lines that define good and evil are not written in black and white; these lines tend to blur into many shades of grey allowing good and evil to intermingle with each another in a single human being. Man is not inherently good or evil but they are born innocent without any values or sense of morality until people impart their philosophies of life to them. In the words of John Locke:
Characterization helps a writer shape their characters to fit into the story. In “Good People” the usage of the two methods of characterization shapes the characters so that the story makes sense.
In the article "Frivolity of Evil" Theodore Dalrymple, psychiatrist Anthony Daniels narrates his fourteen years in the prison hospital. Daniels says that man is intrinsically evil and the rest of the society is not evil. New evils are met and older evils are disappeared, with the outbreak of every evil. Man will act normal until a new evil is raised and catches on. More a person performs well and is supposed as being good, they are supposed to be less evil.
...good nor bad feels wrong to us. This is because, as the centre of our ethical system, God represents perfection and what humanity is meant to achieve. People simply wish to be good, and to be good means to become more like God, a central idea in a number of religions.
"Everybody has good and evil within them. All we're trying to say is that people are not all good or all bad. People are more complicated than you think, and one has to be more knowledgeable about the complexities.." Everybody has good and evil within them. All we're trying to say is that people are not all good or all... N.p., n.d. Web. 16 Jan. 2014. .
Nietzsche explains that the term good and bad are associated with totally different ideas in their origin: good does not mean selflessness, and bad does not mean selfishness (Nietzsche, 461). Nietzsche believes that such use of the term derived from the Jewish and Christian traditions, which he resents.
Universal Imperfections Human beings often choose to characterize others as either bad or good. Those who are deemed bad are said to be villains, and those who are deemed good are said to be heroes. In reality, there are no definite heroes and villains. The world is full of universally imperfect people.
All humans are capable for evil just as all humans are capable of good. The capacity for evil does not make a person bad just as the capacity for good does not necessarily make a person good. We all are capable of evil but that does not mean we do evil things. It would be ludicrous to assume that there is a person who is not capable of evil because we are capable of evil through just by existing. Anyone could pull the trigger of a gun and kill someone but not many people would. It is going against inclinations and choosing to not use that capacity for evil that determines whether we are good or
It is only corrupt institutions that make them venal,” human nature is neutral, but seeing cruelty can negatively impact person’s psyche. Modern life offers plenty of various examples supporting the idea. People returning from wars, for instance, some American soldiers who came back to their homes from Vietnam, Afghanistan or Iraq, could not sometimes forget the horrors of the war that continued constantly torturing their mind. Society also did not pay enough attention to their problems and was not supportive enough, so they were quite likely to become aggressive or, on the contrary, close themselves from the outside world and look for relief in alcohol or drugs. However, it does not tell anything about their “basically bad” nature, but only proves that the fact that pain and suffering are very powerful negative factors significantly damaging the human psyche. Wells shows that when the narrator, Pendrick, returns to England, he cannot recover from shock and becomes afraid of people, so he goes to the countryside where he may devote his life to science and experiments (161). The examples of American soldiers and Pendrick show that people turn to be immoral because of social ignorance. So, I believe that people have bad behaviors because of negative outside forces. They do not have constant personalities, because they can be changed easily by their
Society believes that when something is good or evil it is immutable, which is highly incorrect. A few characteristics society portrays as a clue of good can actually be greatly deceiving. Such as, appearance, reputation, and human nature. Many sources can support this, including: The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, “Serial Killers, Evil, and Us,” and the interview with Philip Zimbardo titled “Why Do Good People Do Bad Things?”
Many people struggle with the idea of what it means to be a “good” person and what it means to be a “bad” person. We all want to be good, but it's not easy. Everyone has their own opinion about certain issues, and they depend on their values, judgment, and beliefs to see them through their difficulties. In the short story "A Good Man is Hard to Find," Flannery O’ Connor illustrates her argument of good and evil through a grandmother who struggles with her own sense of goodness, and the Misfit who represents evil. In the story a character who views herself as good comes to realize that this goodness that she believes she has cannot protect against the works of evil.
...ly or mentally, a conscious effort to injure others that is no obvious benefit to the human race is not good. I believe that people try to do good most of the time. For example, the person had a motorcycle accident. He hated by a car on the local road and stocked under the car. The car was flamed. This news is from the yesterday of FOX25. When I saw many people stopped and together to get the car off the person and being without thinking about the flames, I am so grateful. The man was saved and no life injury and the story have a good ending. Accordingly, people are innately good. I think I am actually a good person. I like to open doors, push in chairs, listen to people, and help little kids. No meter outside the world how changed it doesn’t influence my good personality at all. I agree Carl Rogers’s theory people should be capable of becoming conscious good.
Some people are mostly good, some are mostly bad, but none are good or evil.
For starters, one must define the words good and bad. Dictionary.com’s definition of a good person is “a person who is good to other people.” Its definition for a bad person is “a person who does harm to others.” Both of these are vague so one must venture into the definitions of the words good and bad. The definition found at www.dictionary.com for the word good is, “Socially correct, proper, beneficial to others, valid or effectual under the law, characterized by honesty and fairness.” The definition of bad is, “Not achieving an adequate standard, evil, sinful, unfavorable, having undesirable or negative qualities.” It seems as if the public has determined the meaning of good and bad to be whatever they want it to mean. This paper is going to use good and bad in relation to people; where good is benefiting someone, and bad is hindering someone.
