Dogs get distracted easily. It happens all the time. You say “sit” and the dog walks away to stare out the window. Most dogs get can’t focus on training for more than ten minutes. So training session have to be short and consistent. No matter what you do, you cannot effectively train your dog while they are distracted.
I have to be very patient. As I said before, dog get distracted easily. Most of the time people get frustrated about this and yell at the dog. Dogs don’t respond well to being yelled at and it creates a negative response to being trained. In addition, it can take a long time for a dog to get the hang of a trick, so I have to be very patient. So many,, that I sometimes just replace the treats with pieces of dog food. When I am training my dog it is very important to let her know it when she does the right thing, therefore I are going to need treats. When I think about it, I am having my dog do something over and over, so I am giving her treats over and over. It is important to stock up on dog treats when training my dog.
Consistency is key If I want to get good results when training my dog, it is vital that I remain consistent. It is important not to use multiple commands for one trick, as this will confuse my dog. When I are teaching my dog a new trick, I always have to talk to my family and agree on one command and stick with it. If I have one family member using “come here” and another saying “come” my dog is not going to understand what I want. If I are not consistent, it is like I never taught my dog that trick in the first place.
One thing at a time
You can’t just teach a dog one trick for two minutes and they second they start to get it, move onto another trick. It just doesn’t work that way. Training a dog is a consistent process and repeating the same trick can get a little old. I always have to teach my dog a certain trick until I know for sure that she has it down.
