Of the nearly 2.1 million people that call New Mexico home, 48,608 live in Roswell City (US Census Bureau, 2010). According to the 2010 US Census Bureau QuickFacts on www.census.gov, a little more than half of Roswell residents are women. It also shows that the median household income as of 2014 is almost $3,300 a month, while the average rent/mortgage is between $700 and $930. This means that while the amount of people in poverty is close to 23%, the population above the poverty guidelines may have some spending money available. Another thing I saw when I was looking at the numbers for the Roswell business section on census.gov, was that the hotel and food service industry had total sales at $106,214 for 2012, but the retail sales for that
...nt of $764 and a staggering 43% cannot afford to purchase an average priced home ($140,422). With that being said, over 8,000 families are on waiting lists for subsidized and affordable housing. Many things can prevent someone from housing such as poor credit histories, unresolved debts, and criminal backgrounds. Without affordable child care or dependable transportation, families have a greater challenge of moving towards autonomy.
The case of whether serial killers are born with the lust to kill or if they are truly victims of their environment has been a hot debated question by both psychologists and the FBI today. A serial killer is traditionally defined as one that kills 3 or more people at different times with “cooling off” periods in between kills. Both psychological abuse as a child and psychological disorders are to blame for the making of a killer. The nature vs. nurture debate is best applied to the mysterious behaviors and cases of serial killers and their upbringing and environment. Nature is the genetic and biological connections a person has, personality traits, and how genetic make-up all relates to a killer. Nurture is examining the upbringing and environment that a person is around that affects what a person becomes. In some cases however, the effects of only upbringing or only biological problems were the reasons certain serial killers committed crimes. Although there is no definitive answer to what plays the bigger role: nature or nurture, they both are contributing factors that make a serial killer. These deviants of society are afflicted with problems in either their upbringing or have psychological disorders, and are able to blend into our everyday lives with no apparent differences, yet they wreck havoc through their unremorseful killings.
Mass murder is defined by the FBI as the killing of three or more people in a single event or in the same day (Petersen & Farrington, 2007). Mass murderers are complex and can be examined by the many factors that regularly appear among them, such as violence precipitating events, weapon of choice, and mental illnesses. The motivations and methods for committing mass murder are easily broken down into specific groups, and through the examination of these definitions and specific cases there is much to learn about the mind of a mass murderer.
The population of Native Americans living in poverty is double compared to the U.S overall population rate living in poverty. Williams wrote, “Unemployment is extremely high (90%on some Canadian reserves during winter months), and income levels are extremely low.” Federal housing program often allow Native Americans to be able to afford housing at low cost, but are not considered to be the best living conditions. Reservations are often located in rural areas where it is hard to obtain employment due to location and where access to resources is limited. In the article mentioned above Williams wrote, “Run down trailers and shacks are not uncommon.”(P.386) This kind of housing can be almost unlivable and sometimes even dangerous. It’s even common to see living situation without basic utilities of electricity or water in remote areas (Williams,
... the national 16 percent. Furthermore, homelessness has recently dropped to 2,400 people per night, still higher than the amount that existed before Hurricane Katrina struck, but significantly lower than the 11,000 immediately after the storm. This is largely due to the lack of affordable housing in the area, the last of the previous five large public housing complexes demolished in May 2013. Louisiana is trying to increase the number of individuals moving to the state through major factors such as job growth, particularly in the petrochemical and natural gas industries, which will be part of the 42,000 new job openings in southeast Louisiana in the next six years. However, “the city remains incredibly poor, jobs and income vary dramatically by race, rents are up, public transportation is down, and most public education has been converted into charter schools.”
What is the scariest thing that makes people terrifying? The answer is totally different individually. However, if someone takes the time to think deeply and confront our society today, the answer would be the human. People commonly hear about murderers through the media, so many people live in a horror and find it dreadful to come out of house. “We have met the enemy, and his is us” (Walt Kelly, Pogo). Like this, murder is a terrible part of today’s world. From now on, people need to know what kind of person specifically become a murder and the reasons why. There are three factors that include development disorder factors that effect to the murderer depending on atmosphere of the family. Also, specific emotions can make people kill other people like psychopath. Last factor is a spiritual that is the main root for this problem. Development disorder, specific emotions and spiritual factors contribute to someone becoming a killer.
The fundamental cause of chronic homelessness in the state of Idaho is its widening housing affordability gap coupled with its immense population growth. The state is constantly pushing out housing in order to keep up with the large number of incoming citizens. However, due to the high listing prices for the units, 65% of the state’s population are left unable to afford even the smallest form of housing. In effect, leaving its residents without a permeant place to live and thousands of housing units untouched. Which allows Idaho the chance to implement it own version of Utah’s “Housing First Project”. With thousands of housing units already available, all Idaho has to do is ‘gives homes to the homeless’.
Texas has had a consistent poverty problem. According to the Texas Tribune, 17.2 percent of Texas’ population was still living in poverty as of 2014 compared to the 15% national average. Even though 58% of poor households are employed. Fortunately Texas provides many social services and welfare programs to help those in poverty such as TANF, Medicaid, and SNAP.
Opinion Sadistic Zealots The acts of terrorists on September 11, 2001, demolished two important American buildings and executed thousands of innocent victims. This united Americans, both. mourn the loss of lives and fight back against international terrorism. However, unforgivable, this attack was not a senseless act of violence by sadistic zealots. Apparently, the terrorists were not aware of the long-term consequences of their actions. The brainwashed crusaders may not have even known the motivation for the attack, but blindly following a twisted act of eccentric Muslims.
However, the evaluation of these programs illustrates that while they do help some renters, programs are inaccessible for the majority of low-income households’ due to limited funding and long waiting periods.3 As a result, the state needs to focus on promoting efficiency in the construction of affordable housing by reducing the cost of building, passing inclusionary zoning laws, and providing tax incentives for private investment. In 2017, Gov. Brown signed a series of bills
of less than $18,819 a year, which is far less than the amount that majority people need to meet
Having a place to live is important since where we live influences many things in our lives; whether or not we are healthy, whether children get the proper education they need or how much streets we build up during the day. In many Native American reservations housing is a huge problem. In a reservation it was noted that in a four bedroom home there can be as many as 17 people living there including families that may live in the basement. Furthermore, creating projects to address housing needs in Native American communities is very critical to improve people's living conditions in reservations.
In addition to individuals lacking adequate housing, the crisis also has indirect effects on the nation's health. It is critical that the problem is recognized and immediate action is taken to mitigate the housing crisis. The causes of the crisis stem back to the 1930's when government intervention in the housing market resulted in red-lining and emphasized wealthy white neighborhoods. In urban areas, many cheap residential hotels and apartment complexes were torn down in order to make room for city centers and improve the aesthetics of communities. In rural areas, the economic downturn following the Great Depression and later WWII has greatly impacted the prevailing poverty rates that contribute to unaffordable and insufficient housing. Currently, some federal departments and policies exist that work to provide housing for low-income groups. Unfortunately, none of these programs will be able to alleviate the problem without increases in their budgets. Some supply and demand side solutions have been theoretically proposed, but I argue that the cheapest and most effective way to mitigate the effects of the affordable housing crisis is to renovate and create residential hotels, which thrived in the early 1900's. This form of housing in preferable for those without steady incomes as they are able to rent for a day, week or monthly basis without the need for a
Nearly 50,000 people, including 30,000 children, die each day due to poverty-related problems and preventable disease in underdeveloped Countries. That doesn’t include the other millions of people who are infected with AIDS and other incurable diseases. Especially those living in Sub-Saharan Africa (70%), or “the Third-World,” and while we fight to finish our homework, children in Africa fight to survive without food, or clean water. During the next few paragraphs I will give proof that poverty and disease are the two greatest challenges facing under developed countries.
Petroleum is the country's single most valuable mineral resource. Mexico ranks 9th in the world in crude oil reserves, 4th in natural gas reserves in America and it is also highly rich in renewable energy sources. Since 1989, Habitat for Humanity Mexico has fought poverty through adequate housing, supporting and empowering more than 57,000 families in organized communities. Family income has been losing purchasing power, 60.6 million people earn incomes below the welfare line, which are insufficient to acquire the goods and services they require to meet their most basic subsistence needs. This population, 15.9 million people live in homes with dirt floors, roofs made of tin, cardboard or debris, walls made of mud, reeds, palm or sheet; 24.9 million have no access to basic services of potable water, drainage, electricity and fuel for cooking or heating food. In addition, more than 538,000 families live in overcrowded
